Any people who want to come ton nola and experience Mardigras, head uptown for parades and to midcity for endymion rahter than to borubon st. if you want real fun hanging with the locals.
its funny how the only thing most of the nation knows about Nola's mardi gras is the girls gone wild image full of drunks. The truth is that that stuff is mostly done by tourists who go to bourbon street looking for it. The locals for example on St. Charles and in midcidy watching parades know how to act and how to handle alcohol. look at the saints parade...the entire city crammed crowded together and everybody knew how to act and have a good time. (cont)
@popstoastymonkey you are right. I am sick of the stupid images that shows the very few tourists who act like fools. I just brought friends to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and they were pleasantly surprised how nice the parade and the people were. I do my best to show how wonderful my second home city of New Orleans is.
New Orleans Mardi Gras has something for every type of person even animals. There's nothing wrong with 'American Gras' they all celebrate something ancient so don't be an 'International Hater'
@blunklaura This is true to a certain extent. As you can see in this video, the MArdi Gras I love and witness is much different than the Mardi Gras that the news like to put on TV. The drunkeness represent a small part of the New Orleans' Mardi Gras experience.
Hi Thanx for the vid, my boyfriends is going there this weekend and I just wanted to know if it's true that girls are topless, lol... After watching this video...I'm gonna let him go... ;)
Thank you for viewing. It is actually illegal for the girls to be topless in New Orleans. I enjoy the parade but usually catch it toward the end of the route where it is not as crowded and you get more beads.
Dear mari66101, the song is performed by Zap Mama, an all female quintet founded by Zaire's Marie Daulne. Also, I grew up in Margate, Florida and still visit the area every now and then.
The song is "Iko Iko" by Zap Mama. This song was written in 1954 by New Orleans,James Crawford, under the original title, "Jock-A-Mo" (Source - wikipedia)

Belfort101 4 years ago
I don not know the details, but there are many schools participating from local to other cities. Some schools march in several different parades.
