  • She's got such a lovely accent. I can't tell if she's from India and her accent has simply acclimated from being in America for a long time or perhaps she's spent some time in England as well? Very lovely videos at any rate.

  • @supahfreeak I'm picking up a Canadian instead of British accent, and I'd bet she moved to Canada in her childhood or early teens with Indian parents, so has the influence of their accent at home, but the Canadian accent at school and socially. No, I'm not a stalker, nor do I know her, I just enjoy accents and think I've got her picked. lol

  • A very charming lady presenting a common sense introduction to pranayama. I have been practising yoga for 2 months and everything she says is exactly as my yoga instructors promote in class.

  • True pranayama is eucapnic, but using your full lung capacity when you do not need it, will lower your CO2 level too low.

    Blowing your nose may constrict the tissues around the vomer bone, causing the nose to be more stuffy. A calmer way to clear the nose is to hold it and bob the head forward a few times.

    Asthma is mainly caused by overbreathing. More breathing will NOT release more O2 to the tissues- look up the Bohr effect.

  • I just wanted to bring this to your attention, when you are practising any type of breathing exercises, you do need clean & clear atmosphere to get fresh air as much as possible. Here in this video, the first thing I notice that this lady has candles lit behind at where she is sitting. These candles are made of Petrolatum & can be dangerous, unless you have candles made of Natural waxes.

    Sorry to say, but these candles are harming instead of doing any good.

  • @PAKposse Good point. This is a problem of living in the real world. Like people becomming christians, accepting the good stuff -- but suddenly they realize this puts them at odds with the world. The world becomes a prison with evil lurking at every corner. Unless ofcourse, they have read enough about religion to GET it. What happens outside is tighly knit with what goes on inside you. If you see predators everywhere, this is a learned-behavior that becomes YOU after a while. New city perhaps?

  • @xxramonyxx The goat-like image is a symbol of one of your Chakra. I read that sometimes, when you are meditating you will often see images of beast-like creatures. Some look kinda of demonic but they are only subconscious visions of your energy. I did yoga for about a week. For a spit second a saw something that looked quite scary and demonic followed by a rush of energy, so I quit for now. My instructor said it was just a certain energy release, not an actual creature.

  • I like this Introduction which is good for beginners! t THIS instructor is fairly good sheis not mentioning any Sanskrit terms ! terms at the back ground. in that aspect she Shilpa fully concentrates on practise and silent which is golden! The genleman is so good he tells all the Saskritt terms and meanings briefly . All the description are very brief and upto the point Pretty wise, Shilpa's Yoga! SHeis perfect which admire!We have to aim at Perfection and achieve it!

  • Hi, doesnt any from you( especially someone erudite on combination of western-based and eastern medicine) know how do all the techniques on expanding lung capacity and thereby bringing more oxygen into the body per unit of time, which is from this aspect beneficial for all organs, cope with the contradiction that the more oxygen in the body the more ROS (reactive oxygen specias) are created as a result of that, thereby harming the tissues by oxydation stress?   • I have mild asthma issues and I pray that this will help me overcome it. I have changed my diet and lifestyle to prevent further issues with it, but I have yet to start doing yoga. I have put it off my entire life for some reason.. I thought just being an athlete was enough, boy was I wrong. The day I got diagnosed with asthma out of the blue, truly shocked and frightened me. Due to natural remedies and eating healthy I have been able to subdue the asthma, partially. I hope yoga can eliminate it

  • @veda108 This is why many religions over many hundreds of years, have developed a system of "covering" the women with cloth. Covering their "hips",their "breast",even their "face" in some religions.The reason is, women can be very tempting, and just like the top rated poster, commented less on the "Pranayama" and more on the sexual beauty.There is nothing wrong with sexuality, but when it controls you, then there is no Yama. Prana means Energy and Yama means Control. PRANAYAMA, is self control!

  • Ditto PoisonIvy407, you are so very relaxed and I can assure you that your energy comes through very clear. I'm a carpet cleaner by trade and although the products I generally use to clean with are safe, there was a week or so that I used a particular solvent based product and it must have affected my lungs a little. I didn't notice at first, but a week or so later my breathing became a little more labored and I could hear myself. Could I benefit from your exercises? I'm sure it will pass soon.

  • Pranayama is simply yogic breathing techniques. It's part of Hatha yoga and other traditions of yoga, too.

  • Pranayama done without supervision has the potential to fuck you up really bad. It is never to be done without supervision.

    How so?

  • It is dangerous because there are systems of breathing that bring on physical and sometimes spiritual experiences that once unleashed could create problems of both a physical and/or mental nature. It is said that the if the KUNDALINI is awakened before acheiving certain disciplines in life, one could even go crazy. I, for one, unleashed a touch of that power several years ago and it scared me - so much so that I tore up the instructions so that no one would stumble across them.

  • whatever u just said about the kundalini happened to me, not because of pranayama b/c of using binaural beats. I did go crazy for a while. It seemed like like there was an energy blockade that cut me off from my thoughts and emotions but i'm slowly recovering now.

    Pranayama i think is the BEST way to start moving towards sprituality.

  • If you want solid proof from a couple of respectable sources you can read Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar and Hatha Yoga Manual by Yogeshwar.

    Pretty much any genuine Yoga teacher will warn you of the severe dangers of doing pranayama without adequate supervision.

    And no it's not something that you would ever do naturally, the breathing is quite modified. Done wrong or in excess, without the prerequisites etc they say it can unhinge the mind or destroy your nervous system.
