(1) R1a comes from Siberia or Mongolia somewhere, R1b is still a unresolved matter, there are no confirmed status on R1b just speculations, really. Some of the oldest strains of R1b are in western Europe and it's not in the Basque, but since they found the highest diversity in or around Kazakhstan they speculate it originated there around the vicinity.
