I'll break my silence, there's nothing quite like finding a video of the sled you just bought blow up on youtube, especially after it blowing up on me after only putting 100 miles on it (bought it last january).

As far as the stud through the heat exchanger theory doesn't look like it, there's no damage or repair marks and it doesn't look like it was replaced. From what i could tell the oil pump to throttle body link fell off (it was zip tied on to the replacement engine) causing it to seize

Then the engine was replaced with a used one out of a different sled that had a blown piston on the mag side from leaning out due to a BADLY split throttle body boot (which would have been easily identified when the engine was out) so one of the pistons from the original engine was slapped into the second engine re-using the rings and base gasket and not properly cleaning up the cylinder so the mag side cylinder is beyond repair and by re-using the base gasket the cylinder was not sealing

to the crankcase properly letting coolant in and damaging the crankshaft and connecting rod bearing.

A used sled is always a risk to buy because you never know what was done to it by the previous owner(s).

Keep in mind that stuff happens and this video seems to be just a random mechanical failure.

Now due to the carelessness of the previous owner im off to thief river today to go pick up an engine

I assume you own a 2 stroke? 4s are a different story. My sled is a 99 with no rebuild with 8000 on it. Compression still over 120. I know 8000 is probably only a little over average, but if you hold any 2 stroke motor at 9000ish rpm for a long period of time. Its not going to end well. This is why you should always check a sled over when buying used. Every manufacturer has there faults, doo, cat...etc. all good brands but I hate seeing people disrespect there toys lol
