  • @2rubbish you're right this guy is retarded

  • Drone strings rule

  • fuck ! can someone be kind and tell me where i can buy this guitar

  • @gaham99 google rondomusic

  • Metallica used the the regular sitar

  • He also forgot green day

  • Did Spinal Tap use one on "(Listen To The) Flower People"? They didn't show one in the video of course, but I'd like to find out what they used to record the solo.

  • Did Spinal Tap use one on "(Listen To The) Flower People"?

  • Check out the youtube vid for 'coral sitar from trouble spirits' hardcore playing!

  • @5spdstang f**k yes man, thanks for sharing that, that is a cool electric sitar sound! :D

  • Metallica used this on Wherever I May Roam, I never new from where that sound came from but when I saw that it came from a electric citar I went like :O

  • how about using some distortion over it with Cry Baby ?

  • "There was a song in the 60's . . ." MOTHERF**CKING WITHIN YOU, WITHOUT YOOU!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, you're a horrible reviewer. I shall make sure not to watch any of your other videos.

  • This is not a sitar - one can call it a sit-guit - if this dude knew, the masonite thing is the saddle and what gives it the sitar sound. none of the bands, save the beatles, actually used the sitar - but used this GUITAR, with the large saddle, that gives it the quasi-sitar sound.

  • I had one of these but it is a one-trick pony that you very quickly get bored with. Interesting that the pickguard has been removed, I did the same as it really got in the way.

The tone controls did nothing to the overall sounbd.

  • my son has got one of these, it is a guitar that sounds like a sitar, he says you have to tune the drone strings properly or it sounds like shit. there's a websites with the different types of tuning for the drone for different types of music.

  • also, it's an OUTPUT jack; not INPUT. the signal goes out of the guitar and into an amp.

  • So is this an electric sitar, or a guitar with 13 sitar strings, or is it something else? I may get this because i want to play the drone strings then guitar without having to change out guitars.

  • Intro to Wherever I May Roam? :P

  • I got a nice sunburst rogue acoustic/electric for about $180 from Monster Music did I waste my money, are rogues good at making acoustic guitars

  • Comment removed

  • dude. this is the shittiest review i have ever seen.

  • Metallica's "whereever I may roam", Guns N' Roses "Pretty Tied Up", and the list goes on......

  • those are not drone stings.. theyre sympathetic strings. this instrument has no drone strings. I can tell you more about this instrument than you can tell me about it. You sir, are a man I would not enjoy drinking a beer with.

  • @GatoradeIsNotJuice... Dude, you are my hero. It's awesome how much you know. Seriously though, If you don't like the review, go somewhere else. And take your douchebaggery with you.

  • @GatoradeIsNotJuice those are called drone strings

  • TheBoxtops "cry like a baby"

  • this isn't in tune right now??!! thanks. very informative.

  • I wanna hear some gain!! >:D

  • Pat Metheny and Rory Gallagher used the Coral Sitar too!

  • For someone how demos for "next level guitar", it seems to me that he could use some lessons himself.

  • @francescotaranto90 come on dude, how can he be expected to know how to play a sitar. it's a sitar it's not a guitar. look at his other reviews, he's a good guitar player.

  • @itsumonihon I disagree. Firstly, this is a sitar-guitar: A guitar made to resonate and sound like a sitar. This also means it plays like a normal guitar - it just sounds different.

secondly, I have in fact seen other videos by him. And I have noticed that in a large portion of these video quotes like "I really don't know what I'm doing" etc. -like BalloonRace already posted- are not rare.

To finish, in terms of knowlage and technique he simply isn't a very good guitar player. Simple fact.

  • Thanks man... good job!

  • LOL, well thanks for showing us

  • is this guy stoned or what?

  • @mrwanderer no he's just dumb.

  • wat r those guitars in the back on the right?

  • @buewgewstmeiers Those are Burns guitar's

  • The Beatles used an actual sitar, not an electric one...

  • He lists bands that have used Sitar and doesn't mention The Beatles... i.e. the reason that every other western band used a Sitar.

  • He should have learned The Door, by Silverchair for this, that song is played on electric sitar originally and it is badass.

  • how much are these?

  • This guy has no clue yet he makes a video for Youtube. Is he embarrassed or just completely clueless? Shut up and play something.....anything. Maybe try an open E tuning.

  • Comment removed

  • Uh, yeah - this isn't a very good review but at least he plays the thing a bit. I'd like to know a thing or two about fit and finish, control and machine head quality, intonation, action, etc.

  • Would have helped to have it in an open tuning...just got the sitar mod for my danelectro...now what I'm wondering is, how I could mod a whammy bar into it ^_^ that'd just be too crazy ^_^

  • ...yea... you're not supposed to play the "drone" strings... which I've never heard them refered to that way... I've always known them as chikari strings or sympathetic strings.

  • Also, he didn't play "Paint it Black!"

  • The drone strings are actually sympathy strings. The idea is when you play a note on the fretboard, the sympathy strings will vibrate also. If you turn down the main pickups and turn up the sympathy pickups, you can get some cool chorus-like effect.

  • ...sympathetic strings... or chikari strings.

  • @alexanderj1986 Right. Not the best review, but a great little oddball. Loads of fun to play.

  • what is the name of the two far right guitars? They are so screaming cool!

  • Umm... this guy sucks... -.-'

Why is he reviewing an isntrument he does not know? At least he should've read about it.

Drone strings, eh? .... researchers and producers, eh?

    Dork.

Anyway, the instrumen is great. ^.^

  • 1:35 PER SE

  • what an insult to the sitar jk this thing rules (even though i like the regular acoustic sitar more) rock on

  • Rory Gallagher used one on the track "Philby", check that out.

  • Drone strings? I thought they were called sympathetic strings

  • Comment removed

  • they are. this dude sucks.

  • When the video first starts, it kinda sounds like the intro to Metallica - Wherever I May Roam.

  • That is the Black Angels sound! You bitches!

  • black angels are sick

  • The body of the guitar looks like a pig because right where the neck connects to the body is the snout and the legs on the bottom of the guitar is the part that juts out

  • yeah, it does

  • LOL it does!

  • I'm sorry for that.

I modeled that 'sitar' after my favorite pig, Harrison Snorg.

  • this guy is so lame he has no idea of what he is doing

  • I love your videos Dave, but one thing.. you talk too much

  • echo and the bunnymen used these aswell.

  • Check out the "Strangelings" version of " Matty Groves " for a better idea of what they can sound like, i love it.

  • I hold this as an instrument that does just one thing. Gear reviews are not very positive on this axe. The reverb on his amp is doing most of the work. ...He is doing quite well though

  • What guitars are on the wall behind you there, with the 4 pickups?! Eddie Van Halen played one in the video Finish What'cha Started and I've been trying to find out, forever, what those guitars were. Thanks!

  • less talky more play

  • I'll give him this, The Beatles used an ACTUAL SITAR. So this is "a totally different instrument".

  • i do not like this guy.

  • He forgot to mention one of the most famous bands to use sitar... THE BEATLES!!!! The guys who introduced Sitar to Rock and Roll and said "Hey this can work!"

  • Agreed, I can hear traces of it in some of their songs.

As well, didn't they, oh I don't know... CREATE ROCK!? XDDD Am I right dude?

i would love to learn and Master Sitar, Guitar, and this fine instrument.

  • @speakercoilmusic yeah they used sitar not an electric sitar.

  • I am aware... however the beginning says "many famous musicians and bands have used sitars including"

It didn't say "used electric sitars".... Hence being shocked The Beatles were not on the top of the list!!!!

  • yeah George Harrisons sitar work was really cool. I think he first used it on Norwegian Wood. He reported that he just "picked up the sitar and found the notes."

  • Yep... Absolutely correct. That was the first tune to use it. We can all thank Ravi Shankar for introducing Geroge to indian music... and for the birth of Norah Jones.

  • @speakercoilmusic

We are in total agreement on the Ravi Shankar thing. Not only does he rock for the George Harrison influence....but the fact that he was half of the creation of Norah Jones! She is freaking sick (and beautiful besides). Saw her in concert, it was bloody awesome.

  • @speakercoilmusic

But the Beatles used the actual sitar. The bands that he listed are bands that used the sitar guitar.

  • @ChadBMichaels I understand this, but it says "bands have used sitars including" not "bands have used sitar guitars"

    Hence The Beatles...

  • @ChadBMichaels George Harrison actually owned one, but he let someone borrow it and didn't get it back till long after the beatles broke up, so it never made it into a recording.

  • @speakercoilmusic yeah but he didn't play this fake shirt. George harrison was a man and learned the real shit.

  • @GoldenSlumbers89 Yes... However recently (like a week ago) I read that John and Paul played an electric sitar on a few tracks, but it didn't specify which ones! It was on some Beatle's gear page... But yeah Harrison learned the real deal...

  • @speakercoilmusic interesting. I mean this sounds like it gets the job done, but its so processed sounding that it would really only sound good if it was in the background of a rock band, as a rhythm or complimentary instrument, but in the lead context, it would get kind of muddled.

  • @GoldenSlumbers89 But, Clapton USed Transfer Those Tones On His Sg...once..there was a video i saw. he was copying the tones on his classic guitar, while anousha shankar played her sitar.

  • @speakercoilmusic my thoughts exactly!

  • yea man seriously

  • @speakercoilmusic To be fair to him, he was referring to electric sitars. George Harrison used classical acoustic sitars. However, although he stated "... and many others", probably the most famous piece with electric sitar was Steely Dan's "Do it again"

  • @yamex5 Since I posted this original comment I did more research and the Beatles actually did use electric sitar as well as a normal sitar on their recordings... I originally was referring to the traditional sitar... but then found that fact out.

  • @speakercoilmusic

    The Beatles suck.

  • @RecordingDIY lets see your stuff

  • @RecordingDIY ouch....

  • @speakercoilmusic nah, it was mentioning bands who used an ELECTRIC sitar. the Beatles used the real deal.

  • @tiddlywinks98712 You are like the 10th person to bring up that point. However being a Beatles fanatic I would like to point out they used both. Mostly they used real sitar, but there is actually one song and I can't remember which features JOHN (yes john not george) playing electric sitar. Also later on in solo stuff George Harrison used a Danelectro Electric Sitar as well.

  • @speakercoilmusic ahh man, thank you for that information nugget lol, thats interesting to hear. i am obviously not as bigger fanatic as you lol. peace

  • @speakercoilmusic but they played an actual sitar, not the original Coral electric sitar

  • @n0possibility Been through this before... They actually used both. I did a lot of digging and research on this. John used a sitar guitar on a song (can't remember which one now)... Of course they had Ravi on some songs and then George played on a couple as well with real sitar. So yes they did... I have answered this question before... like 10 times... lol

  • @speakercoilmusic I knew this thing because of Metallica lol

  • Thanks for sharing.

  • If you like the sound of these but aren't too sure about buying one, the digitech "the weapon" has a setting that kind of emulates this sound.

  • Some phrases you really don't wanna hear when watching a gear review -

'I really don't know how to play this, but...'

'I really don't know what I'm doing on this thing'

'This isn't in tune right now'

  • @BalloonRace

Well..what do expect..he can't even put his hat on the right way round :)

  • Tommy Tedesco Top Tip: turn the non-drone pickups down relative to the pickup under the drone strings to accentuate the resonance.

  • why not just buy a real one. They sound so much better and probably cheaper. IMHO this is not even worth it.

  • They do sound better, and aren't too expensive. They're hard to get and keep in tune, and they're fragile too. Also they're really big to drag around.

  • that is a really good idea, but you leave out a key fact.

The sitar is incredibly hard to master, it takes much longer than the guitar, and they are much different. This is just like a kind of substitute to try to get a small amount of sounds from the original Sitar.

However, you brought up a good point. It just determines how much effort you want to put into it. = )

  • Sitars are REALLY expensive. The Rogue is pretty cheap in comparison, but I know I'm buying a REAL sitar!

  • your videos are great. you are the man.

  • that crackle is fucking sweet

  • i have a yamaha guitar with an EYB sitar Bridge ( see my vids ) which is an better option i think as you can set the intonation and individual saddle height plus you can add it to your favorite guitar.

  • Where did you buy your EYB bridge? I've wanted to get one but i can't find any online to buy.

  • google eyb

    email gunter at eyb

    just bought mine, cool guy

hell give u the address to paypal

  • is there like a citar pedal?

  • Guitar pedals would actually work, I believe.

  • I personally think learning to use the REAL Sitar would sound a lot better, but this is indeed an excellent instrument.

  • I used a sitar in a Cover show I did recently and it went over really well. We covered Metalica, that one where they use the electric sitar

  • after 7:45

    great tip for all musicians

  • they used this on "what the hell have I" by AIC.

  • that is fuckin mega... I gotta get me one of those!

  • whats that red and white guitar behind him?

  • I think its an eastwood or someth.ing

  • It is probably a Teisco Del Ray, one of the "cheapo" and oddball guitars that has inspired Eastwood and other makers.

  • everyone really just wants you to play wherever I may roam hahah JK sitars are awesome

  • pahleeeeeez stop talking!!!!!! play then cut. your talking is useless.

  • "ballsy" ? i didnt hear a ballsy

  • awesome stuff!

  • Anybody know if Led Zeppelin used sitars for 'Kashmir'?

  • no.

  • nope... egs..

  • The song or album?

  • Nah bro, Jimmy Page played his black and white Danelectro electric guitar. The tuning he used was (low to high) DADGAD

  • wow. WHICH GUITAR IS THAT RED ONE IN THE BACK !!!!!! IF ANYONE KNOWS :D ITS INTERESTING :D

  • the left one or the right one?

  • I can't believe that he would do this vid without tuning the drones. It doesn't do the instrument justice.

  • Actually Rory Gallagher used Coral Sitar in his song called "Philby" in 1979. :)

  • dont play david .. don't play !!

  • I don't think Genesis used a sitar ever....what's with the title?

  • I'm pretty sure Hackett used a sitar guitar on "I know what I like..."

  • I looked it up on wiki. The credit is given to Mike ;p

  • why wouldnt they get someone that actually knows what theyre talking about the demonstrate this?

  • everytime i see this dude doing reviews he just bangs away on shit, not really knowing what he's doing.

    it's obnoxious.

  • He is not a great guitar player

  • hees a guitar player not a sitar player XD

  • this isnt a real sitar its a guitar with sitar tones.

  • Great observation Sherlock!

  • why dont you try making a video and then you'll know.

  • sweeps and tapping must sound either crazy of horrible. lmao

  • listen to the Black Angels "Manipulation", great use of an electric sitar.

  • do you have to have the sitar mode on at all times?

  • yeaa I remember Metallica usin this on 'wherever I may roam' intro

  • he never mentioned the beatles or stones once wtf

  • Thats because the Beatles and Rolling Stones had actual sitars on their albums. They didn't use these guitar-sitar hybrids. Different instrument really.

  • dude guitar sitar indian music is all about phrygian dominant mode man.

  • Heh not really. Classical Indian music has 10 parent scales and thousands of ragas. Hardly just phrygian dominant..... Check out Rag Bhupali , Rag Yaman or Rag Desh for examples that are not phrygian dominant but are common classical Indian Ragas.

  • i know about the ragas but for the western mind thinking in that scale works a little bit better if the sitar guitar is being used in a rock setting as it is the same thing ascending and descending. yeah when actually play a sitar i use asavri as it's the only one my grandma has actually been able to get me to remember lol. used to know bihmpalasi...

  • Oh, wait. This guy is referring to the sympathetics as "drone " strings. Does this thing even have any drone strings? I don't hear them.

  • Some models have actual drone strings, but this one just has annoying sympathetic strings

  • What models? Could you be more specific please? Thanks.

  • Sorry, I actually don't know, all I know about electric sitars I learned on Wikipedia a few hours ago so I can't help

  • This is so much shittier than a real sitar. The drone strings sound HORRIBLE.

  • sounds like arab music

  • wow. seriously? India buddy. Get some cultural knowledge man.

  • Why the HELL would you do a promo video for an instrument when you don't even have the thing properly tuned ??? and can't even really PLAY the bloody thing ?? And it sounds mostly like a really bad OUT OF TUNE 12 string with too much reverb.

  • WHO THE FUCK wrote the list of musicians that use the stiar at 0:13?

Not only are the Beatles and other more famous artists not listed, METALLICA is at the top of the list.

    You fucking suck.
