My original comments was on Yuja's inability to follow direction from the greats - Kurt Masur and Dutoit, no slams and no insults.

To all those who think I worship Yuja, for this piece in my humble opinion I think she plays it a tadd too fast. A tadd faster than MOST artists p-laying this difficult piece. Like Richter she is a challange to the poor conductor LOL. None the less she is really mostly on the right side of the ledger with the musicality. Her rendition of the Cadenza is not an area she excells in from a critical perspective, Lazar Berman owns this followed by Horowitz Martha etc Yuja is an exceptional artist

Wow this argument just goes on and on! It seems that there is some controversy here. That's probably not a bad thing since anything really new and exciting inevitably attracts differences of opinion. New compositional styles in particular draw vociferous detractors, and so do new approaches to performance. I think there are things about Yuja's performance style / marketing which will annoy people and that's fine, but you can't really deny that her musicianship and pianism are world-class.

It is laughable (but typically paranoid and disingenuous of him) to state I have 'elevated' his attack on Yuja by defending her! He was ALWAYS crudely dismissive and ignorantly biased! I take afront when people like Brett drop a bucket load of crap on her and infer that Gilels is far superior. How can you compare a 4 decade veteran to Yuja who has just under half that experience. ? In MHO I think there arev pieces she plays with better interpretation than Gilels and Horowitz for that matter. Giles, Horowitz and Richter etc are NOT Gods !! Yuja is a breath of fresh air

Gosh I'm keeping out of this one... except to say I am something of a fan of Ms Wang. I have tickets to see her recital at RFH London in May :-) Martha Argerich is rumoured to be a very great admirer of her playing - I guess her opinion must count for something even if mine doesn't.

Anyway - I'm not sure who is on whose side - here it's all rather confusing - but I think I would rather stay well out of this bloodbath. Just relax and enjoy the nice music...

I agree with many comments here--what I like is that she is NOT content to settle for safe performances. Indeed she will grow and matures as a artist---she seems sometimes caught a bit in her amazing technical ability and brilliance . Somewhat like the young Horowitz was. But I find her never boring or unthoughtful-and even if one can quibble with choices--her's seem always of interest and clarity. How nice to have her in our time-and only 25!

@busylifemeto On the cadenza: Rachmaninoff, Gilels, Horowitz, Weissenberg and Argerich :-)) Richter never played or recorded Rach 3rd - his Rach 2nd is sublime, everything he played late in his career is extraordinary, when he became an immense musician. Perhaps Yuja Wang will become a musician in 30 years, now she has no musicality and her pianism sorely lacks :-) Her Scriabin, Vocalise, Gluck Melodie all are played very very poorly - and those are pieces where musicality is paramount :-)

I love Yuja Wang's playing but here she doesn't have the measure of the work. She is too hurried in certain passages and also too heavy handed. She is on record as saying that she hasn't played the 3rd very often because she feels that she is young and wants to grow into it with the passage of time. however, I would still love to see her perform this concerto rather than the Bartok 2nd she is due to perform in London next spring. To hear how it should be played, try Ashkenazy's recordings.
