@CCAWT dark cloud was awesome :) suikoden was my first rpg, and its one of my favorite genres to this day, if you do play suikoden, remember when you get the story option to spare someone or kill them, always spare them! that way you get all 108 stars of destiny, and get the best ending :) this game and the characters in it are pretty much burned into my memory

it would get old if all the game is about 2 factions fighting to overthrow each other and finally the hero's faction with succeed

Suikoden 1 & 2 are the best in the series. Played a demo of 3, have 4 and almost beat it(weakest apparently), and scene some footage of the 5th. The old school graphics, the story, the music, everything was so much better with 1 & 2. Plus 2 wasn't as long after the first one. Was a sequel to it with just a different main character. All the other characters were mostly the same. God those games take me back. Along with Breath of Fire 3, FF 4, 7, and 8. mmm. ^_^
@BraveSnake33 AGREED! I'm probably one of the few who appreciate the simplicity and beauty of the old 2D graphics. I tried playing 3 and 4 but I couldn't feel the great Suikoden(ess) fun which I'm fond of, it just didn't feel the same. and I hate how starting from 4 the story went into the past of the storyline. I LOVED how you get to meet and recruit McDohl from Suikoden 1 into Suikoden 2 too bad they dropped that in Suikoden 3
@MichelNieuwegein Its not that much,more around $40 to $50. Its also available on psn network if you have a ps3. I good friend sold me his copy a couple of years ago for $30 so I got lucky:)
The ending of the opening, when you see Tir, Ted and Gremio look upon Lake Toran castle made me always think there was a way to save Ted and get this scene when you were going to the castle. Oh well!
suikoden 1 is one of the best rpg ever!! not to talk about the graphic but i think this game is better than any ff's game . i mean suikoden 1 is best in it's story main idea,story line,rich of character personality and what i like the most is message this game brought . there's not many rpg's that bring intense story from begining to ending like suikoden 1

Eh, Suiko 1 was good, but flawed, the music was so-so the graphics were terrible..The story was overall not fantastic, but hey it was a fun game not knocking it, it was flawed. Suiko 2 was a dramatic improvement almost every character had a story to them it was amazing, was it the best RPG ever made eh..that's going a smidge too far, it was definately a great one, I will never deny that, but best I've played better.
agreed , suiko 2 is one of the best rpg's created for consoles. finally started on suiko 5 and only 20 hrs into it I am already ranking it alongside suiko 2.
Any rpg that strikes a cord emotionally with the player is a damn good one in my book.
suiko 3 had a gr8 story but the switching characters/chapters felt like i was reading a book part way thru and then putting it down to start another one.. over and over again..and always as the story got good.
That would be really cool but like almost every other fangame project it would probably die off.
I'd really love to see a remastered Suikoden 1 and 2 with the same graphics style though. Hell a completely redone remake with new graphics would be awesome too.

Although the settings clearly show a fictional aspect, as oppose to reality, the realism i'm refering to is the character's emotions, story, gameplay, not considering the setting. And i do believe "reality" itself is debatable. Even our own world may be fiction.
i've played more rpg's than you and your whole family combined. And whether a game is good or not is based on perception. But by using the gameplay, graphics etc. format, with its 2d graphics, its clearly out of its league when compared to today's games.
I try not to let graphics get in the way, I see it more as a damn good story. Suikoden 1 & 2 have some of the greatest stories I know of. And FF 7 is hailed as the greatest RPG ever made by most, not because of graphics but the way the story hits players in a very human way.
Suikoden will, obviously, never be on par with the RPGs of today but it will always remain one of the greatest RPG games ever created. Its story is a classic amongst RPG players who have been lucky enough to play the series, since it is so rare in the western hemisphere.
I agree with secretagentchris, classic RPGs are loved by players, not because of aesthetic graphics but because of their stories. Graphics is only the skin of the games, what counts is the emotional impact of the story.
Suprisingly, i, too, fully agree. Suikoden I and II and other 2d rp games have left me a fainted memory of unbeatable Roleplay Graphic; a feeling of being "within"...not visible to today's games...surprisingly.
Sadly, my attempt of reliving my supposed 2d happiness has left me with a negative opinion...sadly.
Making them in 3D was a completely natural decision. They saw which way the winds were blowing and followed them, which is the most normal thing a human can do. The quality of a plot, whether Suikoden or no, has nothing whatsoever to do with 3D enviornments and character models. I found Suikoden 5 to be an excellent addition to the series.

i always wondered why camile's image appears on one of the flags at the end of the intro there, she wasn't even a vital character outside the toran mission at the beginning, def not as important as viktor and mathiu etc etc
I always figured it was because she is one of the first people to join Tir's Liberation Army. So she is seen as a founding member... in a way.
I always hated that scene in the intro with Odessa, Humphrey, and Flik in battle together in Rockland. I so BADLY wanted to do that in the game, and I never could.

try epsxe emulator, although it runs on plugins instead of computers hardware. about ur problem, i believe u need to have a file in the memory card folder, called my memory card.
I was just randomly plucking guitar strings when I suddenly found out I was playing the 'Sad theme'. I think that's a sign that suikoden has one of the best theme music of all video games.. It's like I still mourn Gremio every time I hear that song...

The rune of punishment is soo much worse( the hero of 4 has it) it hurt everyone around you and slowly kills you. it you give it to someone ese you die.

By far Suikoden 1 and 2 are some of the best rpgs of all time. Its sad that 3 and 4 sucked. 5 was pretty decent, but has not been able to recapture the magic of the first two installments. Personally I am hoping if Konami continues the franchise, they switch back to 2-Dimensional Hand-Drawn graphics, but that probably will never happen.
Genso Suikoden I - V have come out in America, minus the 'Genso' part. What we didn't get were Genso Suikogaiden I and II (and I think like a card battle game?).

I remember getting this game on the psx the summer I was 11 years old. I thought it was great and played it over and over again probably 12 times. This is the first and probably the best RPG I ever played, it is just something special with it that other games are not close to

What's awesome from S1 & S2 is they have many same soundtrack which make me feel like I'm playing just 1 game but very long and interesting....
Well, future Suikodens have some of the soundtracks too, but they're all remixed.... like S5's Strategy Council session music....

Although the settings clearly show a fictional aspect, as oppose to reality, the realism i'm refering to is the character's emotions, story, gameplay, not considering the setting. And i do believe "reality" itself is debatable. Even our own world may be fiction.

I try not to let graphics get in the way, I see it more as a damn good story. Suikoden 1 & 2 have some of the greatest stories I know of. And FF 7 is hailed as the greatest RPG ever made by most, not because of graphics but the way the story hits players in a very human way.

Suikoden will, obviously, never be on par with the RPGs of today but it will always remain one of the greatest RPG games ever created. Its story is a classic amongst RPG players who have been lucky enough to play the series, since it is so rare in the western hemisphere.
I agree with secretagentchris, classic RPGs are loved by players, not because of aesthetic graphics but because of their stories. Graphics is only the skin of the games, what counts is the emotional impact of the story.

Suprisingly, i, too, fully agree. Suikoden I and II and other 2d rp games have left me a fainted memory of unbeatable Roleplay Graphic; a feeling of being "within"...not visible to today's games...surprisingly.
Sadly, my attempt of reliving my supposed 2d happiness has left me with a negative opinion...sadly.

Making them in 3D was a completely natural decision. They saw which way the winds were blowing and followed them, which is the most normal thing a human can do. The quality of a plot, whether Suikoden or no, has nothing whatsoever to do with 3D enviornments and character models. I found Suikoden 5 to be an excellent addition to the series.

Suikoden IV was directed by Matsukawa as well but was produced by Junko Kawano, who was the chief designer in Suikoden 1. Suikoden V was directed by Takahiro Sakiyama, a relative newcomer to RPGs. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, it is suggested that he will return to the director's seat for Suikoden VI.

I feel the same way, though I really liked 3. I still have the first Suikoden and I have all of them as well...its just mystical and inspiring. Suikoden is very magical IMO.

I always figured it was because she is one of the first people to join Tir's Liberation Army. So she is seen as a founding member... in a way.
I always hated that scene in the intro with Odessa, Humphrey, and Flik in battle together in Rockland. I so BADLY wanted to do that in the game, and I never could.

try epsxe emulator, although it runs on plugins instead of computers hardware. about ur problem, i believe u need to have a file in the memory card folder, called my memory card.

Oh, and the tease of a scene with Tir, Ted, and Gremio at the cliff of Lake Toran. It was haunting me! There had to be a way to save Ted from the clutches of Kraze before the party left Gregminster. But alas, most of the intro movie was really good eye candy.

This one pretty much changed my life. Or at least the way I looked at video games. I remember I bought it on impulse when it first landed on the playstation shelves at Circuit City (lol) and wouldn't sleep at night because I kept unraveling more and more of the story. :[
Once it was finally over, I looked at the intro movie again and thought I was missing so much because I hadn't seen that scene with Odessa, Flik, and Humphrey. I was convinced there was a way to start a new story as Odessa!

By far Suikoden 1 and 2 are some of the best rpgs of all time. Its sad that 3 and 4 sucked. 5 was pretty decent, but has not been able to recapture the magic of the first two installments. Personally I am hoping if Konami continues the franchise, they switch back to 2-Dimensional Hand-Drawn graphics, but that probably will never happen.
