@elboogero ur Australian HELL YEAH!!!!!!! I met tomas his a champion he let me film 3 songs on stage at the Obzen show in sydney UNBELIVABLE!!!!!!well done man ur AWSOME
Jesus Christ!!! Gavin Harrison just wishes he could play like you even on his best days. I'm serious. I love Gavin, but boy, you are just OFF-THA-FUCKIN'-HOOK. Also, I love the fact that you share every little hit of your playin' with the entire world, that is so nice from you. Always remember who are. Keep on groovin' for ever and ever. Cheers from Buenos Aires! Pepín.
as much as i love your drumming, this song is pretty terrible, i hope all of their songs are nothing like this one song, because i'm pretty turned off by this band atm
Who are the seven assholes that disliked this? Your just fuckin jealous that you never be able to play anything close to this, unless you soled your soul to satan himself, i can see troy wright has already done that. Fantasic performance!!
Those ghost notes are boss, easily the best performance of them on the tubes. Juuuust loud enough to be heard and scaled to the intensity of the music. Love your variations on the ride and crash too. You have an awesome sense of dynamics.
The movement of your feet looks so smooth and natural, I love it. Super impressive cover. It's really cool of you to do the lessons after the song too. Awesome video.
@wrightdrums Please, please, please do Anesthetize! :D
That song is boss, but so difficult in places. I think the middle section uses a few of the same techniques as in the kick parts in Bleed, but I'm not entirely sure...
so... to do this, when you double on your right foot, does your left foot have to fit in between the double and then another left again? like RLR L? cause..... i cant do that.... i can only do like a RRL thing and i cant do the song... i dont even know how to do this slowly.... so sad....
Actually, now that I watch the video again, I think he looks more like Taylor Lautner. You know the ware wolf guy from the twilight movies. Maybe he's a Ronnie/Taylor Lautner hybrid?? Ronnie Lautner perhaps......
@ikillyourants the only way i can learn difficult songs like these is to transcribe it note for note first and the read through it, which also helps me remember the piece
Trully inspiring. I think beyond the endurance and coordination this song takes, the shear commitment to memorize all the different patterns in this song shows what it takes mentally-what real drummers do, troy isnt just hitting stuff thats for sure. It's easy to program and write odd patterns on a computer like most of these bands, but to learn these patterns and really play it...awesome!
Oh man what a flawless cover !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tomas Haake would be proud !!!!!! Absolute beast of a performance !!!! keep up the good work and keep on kicking asses !!!!!!!! \m/
Mr> Wright i only have one question : how can i fucking build endurance for this ...a response would be much apreciated ! thanks alot and keep rockin'
@mariusel666 practice mate.. time on the kit - working on what you can't play. it took me at least a month to get over the endurance hurdle with this song
@mariusel666 the endurance is the most frustating part. i suggest 2 things. 1) Give it time and practice. Also I recommend running in some barefoot shoes a few times a week, that helps your calves build up strong for endurance. 2) Try adjusting your pedals to having less of a battle with them. that was one of my big pillars in my way.
Hey Troy. Since you've gone through the trouble of actually learning the whole song, I figured you'd have paid attention to the way Tomas plays this live and how he played it on the record. Do you think there are differences? Cause I can't hear the ghost notes on the studio version, and at 02:22 I don't think he plays the 16th notes in between the 32th note bursts, but he clearly plays them in live shows.
Keep up the good work btw. You're absolutely brilliant!
@Prolifejoe - I'm not sure if you're implying that I've been 'shown up'. If you are, then it seems as if you either don't realize or refuse the acknowledge the level of complexity at which I'm formulaically analyzing exactly what the music calls for regarding beater throws (which does not factor in any accents, be they natural (traditionally accented beats) or syncopations).
P.S. - I equate the phrase "beater throw" with the 'stick heights' for the feet. ('Beater heights', if you will.)
Holy shit you are playing this well. I have seen many, many people trying to play Bleed some better than others, but you are nailing it. And I really appreciate your break down of patterns to learn. Subscribing now!
yo dude u got some serious skills, love the triplets, what kind of kit is that? ill subscribe in hopes of u subcribing to me too, ill have some vids up very soon btw we have the same name!
Awesome work, really sweet drumming, and so Is your Obzen Medley! Would be really awesome if you made a cover of one of the old Meshuggah songs, a song from "Contradictions Collapse" or "Rare Trax" maybe?
Been watching your youtube videos a long time now :P I really want to see an old Meshuggah cover!
I'm a guitarist but I thoroughly enjoy watching your lessons and your playing. You understand exactly what you're doing, notation, and explain it quite well. Then the fact that you can have each limb playing in a different pattern is mind blowing.
@ChronoGXay The left foot is playing an entirely different pattern to the right foot. Let me explain. The right foot is playing a shuffle phrase or a repeated group of 2 (reason for all the movement). The left foot on its own is playing almost straight singles to make up the 4 note opening phrase in the song (reason for less movement or "rigid" in your words)
@wrightdrums - I understand what the feet are doing; I've worked out a physics-like formula for a more exact approach to relative stick/beater heights, and have been hypothesizing about a drum set application to 'finger sequencing' (a concept used on piano for playing scales), which tells me pretty much exactly what each finger/hand/foot should be doing. My percussion instructor (a band director and active musician) verified the equation, but I have yet to show him sequencing.
@wrightdrums - By the way, I just looked at what equipment you're using, and strongly recommend you check out Charles Fisher's 'Off-Set' double bass pedal. (found here: 1) [web.mac][.com]/kleidy1/Off-Set/Double_Bass_Drum_Pedal.html
@wrightdrums i noticed that in a drumcam vid of tomas, its very neat how the left foot keeps straight singles. tomas makes it very obvious in his footwork, well done to you!
@wrightdrums - If you think about it another way, your right foot is playing the first two notes in an eighth note triplet, while your left foot is playing eighth notes displaced by a thirty-second note, making the beater throws of your right foot--if we were to assign an arbitrary value for the throws related to the pulse, and the dynamic level never changed--1, 2/3, (pause) [1...], while the throws of the left foot would be 1, 1/2 [1...], or 1, 1/2, [1/2...]. I know the feet. ;-)
@wrightdrums - ...or maybe it's really LF: 3/4, 3/8, [3/8...]... (I've been working out a mathematical approach to determining stick heights and pedal throws for the past several months... there are still bugs to work out--I can see it right in front of me--but while I know the rhythms I put forth are right, their stroke values are correct only if each rhythm is outlining different pulses and are not unified in expressing a single pulse... >:| )
@wrightdrums - Ha, yeah, here it is! (I was trying to look at it in a different, DIFFERENT way, and wound up confusing myself.): Right foot: 1/2, 1/4, [1/2...]- Left foot: 3/4, 3/8, [3/8...]. Got it? (Though it's not as if looking at each foot as outlining different pulses wouldn't possibly allow the stroke height values to be increased to where finer movements would not be necessary, but then it seems like even greater skill would be needed in order to do that...

Very great video of your playing ability as well as your teaching. I wish I could give it more than just 1 thumb up.

@assfixer Ghost notes are not crucial to play in most songs, they just add a little flavor.
