  • anyone know what kind of bass hes using ? would greatly be appreciated

  • @emanvans I believe it's just some sort of Fender Jazz Bass, probably an American. He gets those tones from a variety of effects pedals and a very, very powerful brain.

  • is simply perfect Jojo

  • I would pay millions of dollars to have his left hand attached to my left arm

  • I would pay millions of dollars to have his left hand attatched to my left arm

  • the 8 people who disliked this are currently posting from hospital. They are having brain surgery from their MINDS BEING BLOWN

  • JoJo...

What color is the sky in your world? Thanks for your skill, talent, enthusiasm, and devotion to your craft...Please come to New England sometime...especially to Rhode Island!! Brian

  • with some practice, this is possible..

  • What is that drum hes usin as a snare ??

  • @MikeyTsunami its a remo TSS (tunable sound shape) it uses a kevlar marching snare head and a metal rim. gives an exact marching snare sound with adjustable snare intensity. its only about 2 inches thick.

  • What is that drum called hes usin ?

  • holy shit yes i was lookin for this video but i wish they'd play the whole thing but its still so tight

  • heh 420 likes.

  • @DrumCoalitionWithWar

    Yes - this is "Far"

  • =D What is this bass effect? name is...?

  • @goodhidan That guy uses a ton of effects. For starters, it sounds like he's using a bass synth and wah.

  • what a fuckin boss

  • im in a trance watching this guy its fuckin insane

  • Comment removed

  • I've got to get one of those Remo Tunable Sound Shape pads. What a cool addition to a kit.

  • this is like the perfect drumming for this kind of music...that's awesome...ther's only one thing that bugs me and that's the sound of the crash cymbal... during the song reign in blood by slayer at the Wacken Open Air on saturday Dave Lombardo played some cymbals in the drum intro that sounded so crazy ...those would perfectly fit jojo's kit man

  • 8 people liked Travis Barker.

  • @kssael lmfao

  • No problem shining in that company, eh?

great drumming but he needs more resistance to grow & glow even stronger.

I've only seen him with those wannabe musicians with their kindergarden noise toy parade, so maybe I'm wrong?

  • Jojo is on fire in this video, it's dangerous to watch.

  • this guy is funking amazing... I like his foot technique here

    youtube.com/watch?v=WgdjDgX784g

  • Whats the thing he puts on top of his left snare drum to get that tapping snare sound??

  • Jojo is my favorite drummer, and I always click on this vid to watch him drum, but I always stop paying attention and just listen to the song. They're a damn good group

  • I bet he eats a lot of bacon. The camera man, I mean.

  • The people who rated this down must not know much about how tough it is to play like that.

  • Wow. This man is a god on the drums.

  • Dear Jojo,

    You're frickin awesome.

    K, thnx, bye.

  • fuckin awesome drummer. the only thing that would suck if u played with him, is just knowing that ur not as good as a musician as he is lol

  • just AWSOME

  • ya wow this is genius. I can feel a million drum'n bass heads getting all flow-y and bobbing their heads; he really knows his musical genre. He is retardedly precise. Like.. photek precise, but without the computers? I don't get how this is possible.

  • @MinistryOfM Photek is lean...props

  • How could a human rate this thumbs down ?

    .... amazing

  • fuck you

    kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

    the best

  • Comment removed

  • This is groove is like "HEAD HUNTERS" on E....

    Thicker than GUMBO!!!!

  • im thinking of gettin a tss, anybody know what size jojo's usin cuz thats the sound im goin for

  • @paeris168 It's a Remo Tunable Sound Shape

    ( Remo TSS )

It costs between 200 and 370 US dollars. It depends on how big you want it and which type.

    Remo TSS Standard Range

    Remo TSS Extended Range

    and

Remo TSS Maximum Range w/ black max head which is the most expensive type.

Remo TSS have 5 different sizes.

    6",8",10", 12",14"

  • Does anyone know what that pad like thing on his side snare is?

  • remo practis pad

  • you gotta be fuckin ice cold to drum like that, if this is real, than hes on some next level shit.

  • hes playing breaks and doin shit that only samplers can do, like time stretching and shit, human hands were not meant to do these things

  • @shenmue4life yeah it's amazing lol

  • @shenmue4life

can you please tell me what time stretching is and where you can see it in the video ?

maybe its a dumb question but whatever :D

  • @shenmue4life

Yes! finally someone who truly understands why Jojo is insane. If people really realized his achievement in "reverse-engineering" maybe he would get the credit he deserves.

  • @shenmue4life he has solid time thats why he could do it

  • @shenmue4life JoJo isn't human though... Thats the joke

  • @shenmue4life Well...obviously not only samplers can do it...

  • @shenmue4life human hands were meant to do this, Jojos proof. 'samplers' are just too lazy. Everything Jojo does, was explained in detail in his 'Secret Weapons' vid. he's only mastered all of it.

  • this clip is nuts.traditional grip gets the job done

  • he just opened the door to heaven in his mind xD

    this shit is pure sickness

  • genious

  • terrible ?

    Stupid ?

  • is this a joke I'm speachless

  • reminds me of good ol' tracks from Roni Size and Goldie :) ... sounds very well played on a real drum set

  • Rupert Parkes would be proud...or scared...this is real class.....

  • sick.

i freaking love the dotted eighth decresc.

    tasty, just taaaystee.

    yes, sick and tasty.

  • this definately Jungle, Ambience, and Drum n bass In one

  • What I would give to have left hand technique like that, haha. I don't even know where to start practicing toward that.

  • rudiments are always a good start - check out jojo's DVD 'secret weapons for the modern drummer' he breaks down technique pretty good - has it down to a science. It's all about the laws of physics.

  • @wulord buy his dvd about technique xD

  • He has one?

Jesus. Yeah, I'm getting that, lol.

  • @wulord secret weapons for the modern drummer is what his dvd is called. sick dvd i have it.

  • whats that black drum hes using mostly?

  • its a tunable sound shape by remo, TSS. they come in diferent sizes

  • oh thanks, its electric right?

  • not that i know of no.

  • Contradiction chipmip?

  • brain cold tasteless music, still an amazing performance

  • chipmip you are tasteless in music itself if you say so

  • this is super nice Photek-style drum'n'bass man...

  • lol hes play with a dynasty marching snare right? if it is lol

  • it looks like its something he put ontop of a regular snare to make it sound like a marching snare.

im trying to figure it out though

  • @Djboborei i found its a remo tss pad (someone mentioned it on a comment below

it looks like their pretty hard to find...

  • thanks btw Its a miracle you bumped into my comments in 2 different videos without auto share lol

  • ha yea. i was looking at a few different videos and i was like "that name looks really fimiliar..."

  • lol what a coincidence =)

  • It's a pad.

  • if i were to do acid on the moon i would listen to this kinda music.'

But serious jojo mayer steal the show in this band and leaves you intreaged for more and when u think hes doing the same thing he changes his patterns and throws it all back 2gether.

    Very well done.'

  • i bet he smokes a ton of weed

  • i bet he never did ^^

    on weed you cant play

  • on weed??????? weed isnt a drug its a plant i can play better "on" weed

  • *Under the Guidance of*

  • @lesbiansaregoodandch

its still drug, but i can play just fine high aswell

  • as you should

  • what blows my mind about this guy is how fast his snare hand is.....insane

  • I saw some clips of Jojo here on youtube. I was very impressed so I bought his video in the drummer store. The man is pure genious, inspired me to pick up drumming again.

  • wow. thats what i call an inspiration.

  • some deep stuff man

  • i saw them yesterday, he puts somekind of plate on the snare which is sound like this.

  • It looks like a remo logo on it. My teacher has a sort of practice pad that goes over snare drums but its looser sounding than that by a little.

  • what kind of snare is he using most of the song?

  • It is a mesh head practice pad, like for marching drummers, placed on top of the snare.

But I think it might be made with the dual purpose of being used this way, but I'm not sure.

My Instructor 'Ydna Murd' (Jungleritter) has one of these.

  • It's a Remo TSS drum.

  • ahhhh I wanted to hear the snare!!!!!!!!

  • Yeah,great !!!

    Porca vacca che figata !

  • man, Jojo has so much feel mixed with technique.

  • A parte la musica che è già di per se accativante, ma eseguirla così perfettamente è veramente da fuori classe, complimenti jojo.

  • Anyone know what effects the bassist is using?

  • sounds like a wah wah and a reverb...maybe not a wah wah but a phaser...one of those two effects...

  • It's a sweep filter, usually found in synthesizers. Plus, the bassist has a beard which is important too. :-)

  • At the beginning you can see him step on a pedal. I think it's a wah.

  • @Nightcastr3 The bassist is probably feeding his signal to an engineer who runs it through a A frequency filter and sweeps (raises and lowers) the frequency knob. What this does is control what frequencies are allowed to reach the speakers. If the knob is all the way up it allows the full sound, when you lower it to say 400khz it cuts of all frequencies above 400khz. When you sweep this filter as audio is playing it gives it a wah characteristic.

  • @joshmolina3 The bassist (John Davis) is using a Boss OC-2 set 100% wet into a ZVex Wooly Mammoth for gated fuzz to create a square wave like sound and then using an expression pedal to control the cutoff frequency of a Moogerfooger Low Pass Filter. He's manipulating all of the sounds himself.

  • @jwlash thanks, i had been trying to figure out how he got that square wave sound.

  • The "thing" hes playing as a secondary snare at the beginning of the groove is made by Remo. It is called the "Remo tunable soundshape"....They come in 3 diff. sizes...Im A drumshop manager and could easily aquire one for you.

  • what is that thing that hes playing on. and obviously i dont mean the hi hats.

  • hes playing a type of marching practice pad.

  • its like a mini marching snare

  • really?

  • this is jojo playing for the modern drummer festival so the bassist is there just for background music, hence why the cameras are all over jojo

  • i feel srry for the bassist

  • Why?

  • well jojo is just ripping it up and the bass is just looping in the first part so its like jojos havin all the fun

  • True but it would be amazing playing with Jojo anyway!

  • well he plays drum n' bass.

  • the bass too?

  • thats what bassists do they hold the groove down there is no other way to play bass if he overplayed he would not feel the groove and he would have way less fun im a drummer but bassists should love to play the way they do or they should drop the bass .

  • man jojo is amazing with speed! the rolls with one hand and its left handed traditional! it would take me about 10 years to do even half that speed!

  • have a look at Johnny Rabb then he'll blow ur mind!

  • Johnny aint shit compared to JOJO! He has a lot of licks & tricks but JOJO is WAY more musical and WAY more well rounded!

It's never about the 'flashy' shit! It's about the feel, the groove and doing the music JUSTICE!! Not pulling off every lick you ever learned in one song!

  • fair points that i hadn't considered

but u gotta admit the one handed roles rabb does kicks ass

  • i havent seen that much of johnny rabb so based on what i have seen is that he's an amazing technician on the drums but he hasn't innovated like jojo has in that jojo is able to fit into many different situations and can replace a drum machine for a live gig. i don't think Rabbs technique has as much point to it. it looks like its more for show.

  • yes i agree. raab looks more like a showman to me and shows off his techniques in that context. which are pretty versatile as well i gotta admit..

but jojo plays way cooler music while doing that and besides.. replaces every drum machine out there. but his playing is waay more organic compared to a machine cause he improvises a lot and well.. is human. even though it doesn't look or sound like it :P

  • how does the bassist make his synth-sound? any idea if it is possible to play with logic or any similar daw this sounds?

  • I'm sure he's using pedals. The same effect can be triggered in Logic using a filter and experimenting with the cutoff and resonance knobs.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • far

  • OMG 0:55 that is amazing

  • 5/5 awesome!!!!!!

  • what sampling pad is that? and anyone have any real experiences with it?

  • roland SPD-S, and they're absolutely wonderful

  • it's called spds and it's made by roland. i use it a lot because it gives you lot's of new options. You can put anything you like on it.

  • what kind of snare is that?

  • i forget what it's called, but it's made by remo.

  • The black thing on his side snare is a Remo TSS - watch the remo side, there you can find it.

  • how is that bassist getting his bass to sound like that?

  • That guy on the mixer

  • some sort of pedal I guess..

  • some sort of auto-wah synth

  • wow this is amazing! on all parts

  • Wow, such an honor to hear this. Ya know .. take a read on the String Theory by Michio Kaku.. he tells how matter is made of strings and their vibrations create the Symphony of the universe. But what I don't hear in the frequencies of the universe is a specific beat..via white noise..etc. It is MAN that gives us the BEAT that helps us FEEL the rest of the universe..:-) Just my opinion. hugs from Vegas, Cheryl

  • this guy is fuckin sick.

  • he looks healthy to me.

  • haha

  • what is thet metal rectangular he's got in the middle of the base?

  • it's called a ribbon crasher

  • What song is this?

  • this song is called 'far'

  • What kind of drum/electronic pad is he using for a snare?

  • i own the 12" black max tss....

  • i want 1 sooo bad!

  • is that a marching drum?

  • no...

  • Actually, yes it is. It's a 10" Remo T.S.S. maximum range. Basically it's just a top head with the snare wires right under it. While you can use it on you drumset most people use it as a "side-snare" in marching bands. They run around $250. And like Jojo Mayer is doing, you put that bad boy right on top of another snare and play on it ;)

  • it sounds awesome. I might get one now. I'm beginning to like this d&b stuff. There is so much freedom in it - like jazz but different vibe. It's cool.

  • Trippin music, love it.
