To damusicman2u: I took the test for 25 hydroxy vitamin D and things may have changed from the time you posted. I ordered the test kit online from the vendor listed at the Vitamin D council for ~$60.
To flyaplane1: FIrst, to add to other's comments, the D3 version is more efficiently converted to the physiologically active form than D2 (D2 needs to be converted to D3) . Second, the are hundreds of other vendors of D3, so I would not worry over the 'financial support' issue
Good advice but Dr. Cannel forgot to mention that his organization gets financial support from one the manufacturer to recommend D3 (not approved by US FDA) and not Vitamin D2 (approved by FDA).
It is well documented that it is very dangerous for people with some auto immune diseases to take extra vitamin D. In some countries it is illeagal for a doctor to prescibe vitamin D for people with sarcoidosis. If you have a low 25vitaminD it may be due to a disease. Check with your doctor before taking extra vitamin D.
I already accept the vitaminDcouncil's point of view and take 5,000 IU of vitamin D3 everyday during non-summer hours. But, I checked into taking the 25 hydroxy test for vitamin D once before. The test would have cost me $200 plus I needed a doctor's referral (+$60) plus they would only send the results to the doctor so it would cost me another $60. That's a 10 year supply of D3. We need to get rid of the AMA nomenklatura.

Because D3 is the physiological appropriate form and not D2.

Because D3 is the only vitamin D you should take. Not D2.
