  • whers jimmy page???? sorry i found in other games

  • @5505miller Hundreds of cultures longer lasting than china's? Just name 5 countries that does and i will admit that you know SOMETHING about that country. China dates back 2852 BC, Britain don't even come close in terms of heritage so don't talk like you are a history guru or something.

  • Yes we'd of course rather see the moon and a big shot of the stadium for the fiftieth time than the beautiful hand dancers, great camera choreography

  • I hope the opening ceremony in london 2012 won't feature that choir and bring up these "local community helpers" that no one knows why they are there. It has to be big but not huge. Great but not amazing. It has showcase our culture and why we are still great. I just hope it won't feature random raps and artists that not everyone likes. It has to show an identity that we can all relate to.

  • @jrules0193

Yeah, I really hope they bring some culture older than double deckers O.~

There is probably A LOT of culture that the U.K. can also bring.

  • Were I can purchase the closing ceremony DVD ?

  • Boris what a dweeb haha

  • :)

  • Boris Johnson looks like a drip but he is a clever man. Can Danny Boyle, the mastermind behind Slumdog Millionaire, direct and create an opening ceremony to beat Beijing?

  • i the this drummer she plays with mika yyyyaaaa

  • Boris do some thing different coolest major ever.

  • english is going to be better becouse they have more cultrue and they have ALOT of history i think it would be better i hope

  • @pud881 they have more culture lol idiot

  • @pud881 china is the longest lasting culture in human history... and culture cradle of humanity in many terms... sorry but cannot compare any UK with china in these ... sure Uk has a unique culture and an important actor in history but its st else.

  • @thiocilline

Historically Britian is the most successful country to ever exist on the planet. Hell it even owned China. But thats the problem, thats the only thing Britain has ever really achieved and has to show for its culture, invading the world and killing everone. And after Bejings olympic ceremony with a budget twice of ours, well I totally agree, were stuffed lol!

  • @thiocilline China has the longest lasting culture in human history? I think you will find that actually there are hundreds of cultures longer lasting than China's. Most south American cultures are a lot older. And You cant compare British History with the Chinese culture? You obviously know little about history then. Little would explain to you that Britain had the largest empire in history and invented technology which is vital to today's world and is still inventing.

  • Do your jacket up Boris...

  • chinese rules!!!!

  • 19 : 27 - 16:42

    Wonderful .....!! great

    I Love it

    I loved this piece

  • 19 : 27 - 16:42

    Wonderful .....!! great

    I Love it

    I loved this piece

  • bulls on parade

  • london's ceremony was a bit small. Beiing and Sydney's handover were huge

  • that was a bit too modern for olympics...even for me

  • wow... can't believe it's almost 2011. 2008 felt like yesterday. 2012 is drawing near: so very excited!

  • I have a sudden craving for tea...

  • I ♥ UK 4Ever!

  • Thanks for this upload!! United Kingdom... 2012. Can't wait!!! love the British.

  • Everytime I hear the anthem I know old Imperial memories must come back for the British especially the English. I am an American and I think of the British Empire when I hear the anthem and so I know the old timers must think of it especially at a ceremony "handing" anything over to the U.K. Now they have to play second fiddle the American Empire, our two nations will eternally remain bonded through the anything, our culture, language is inexplicably English. Rule Britannia, Rule Americana.

  • @theone1087 american empire...........what american empire?

  • Everytime I hear the anthem I know old Imperial memories must come back for the British especially the English. I am an American and I think of the British Empire when I hear the anthem and so I know the old timers must think of it especially at a ceremony "handing" anything over to the U.K.

  • 16:50 is when it starts getting good.

  • Why is everyone so obsessed with beating the opening ceremony?? This is a sporting contest afterall and I have no doubt London and Britain will definitely deliver when it comes to what the Olympics is really about. Look at Wembley, Tennis and Lords, all considered home of their respective sports, there is something China couldn't provide and I can bet every ticket at the 2012 Olympics will be sold, which didn't happen in China

  • I think its better the original color of the bus (red)here in london compared to assorted color, because original is the best . with David Beckham and Miss Leona L.

  • china made it great!

  • its my personal opinion that chinese games were lifeless and emotionles..it was an amazement at first...but later it was ok nothing special!!

  • I was born in British Hong Kong, and now HK was returned to China, I have mixed feelings hearing the British anthem was ever sang again in Chinese soil.

I miss the good old days.

  • @BurnDuck

IT's easy just apply a British passport and have your old feeling back.

  • the dancer in the red top is tommy from so you think you can dance uk!!!

  • breathtaking

  • If they want disabled people to be accepted as normal... they should scrap the paralympics and incorporate them into the real games... instead of segregating them into playing in an offshoot token gesture games like this.

  • @jamesarongray Seriously? You expect a wheelchaired person to be able to race in sprints (for example)?

  • In reality it wo'nt be hard for londoner to make better games if they chose to make it with original & own ideas. And they're acting this way.

  • I've seen nicer mardi gras floats.

  • Just wondering, when was the UK purchased by MTV?

  • .,i doubt the brits will give a us a freakin show stopper because this show is a crap!!!

  • I think they should integrate the Olympics with the Paralympics.

  • lol... i am a very open minded person. and i dont like to judge others... but lmao. that has got to be the corniest, cheesiest closing ceremony for london,

  • Haha

I wonder just how stupid all this London mumbo jumbo seemed from the audience...

    What a decadence!

  • sorry brits! you guys stunk it up pretty good.. good luck for the opening in 2012 thou!

  • oh god, this was so much fail.

    2012 olympic gonna be boring.

  • I love Boris when hes in this sort of mood lol, scruffy oik didnt even button up his jacket lol ^^

  • Awesome. It's modern. I like it. Though the original bus sequence before the paralympics was better. I love the bus, the awesome graphic design and animation. London is modern. This shows it. I like it.

  • @rohirrim11rider You call that modern? Come on. That is called cheap. This type of show doesn't fit the big venue such as the Olympic Stadium. It might look good on stage of a theater. Ok,,it is definitely different than what the Chinese presented.

  • Awful. I would expect a bigger celebration. Did that cost 100 pounds?

  • @JONNYPJP Probably.

  • I cringed when that bus-stage's performers starting dancing.

I seriously doubt that London will be able to awe me with their opening ceremony.

  • haha got to love good old boris. can't wait until 2012. bring it on! lets show them an olympics british style!

  • This was one of my favorite parts of the closing ceremony.

  • freakin british better not fail

  • England, we're counting on you. Please do not let this handover be a representation of what is to come in 2012. Please step up to the plate and show the majesty and beauty of your culture. I am an American of British ancestry, and I will be there!

  • soza mate gave you a thumbs down was ment to click on thumbs up thoigh im British and live at the south on the small island 'isle of wight' and im really hopeing tht tey dont let us down .

  • When I was watching this and it said that the olympics will be in London I was so happy, cause thats is probaly the only one I can go to. But when I watched the performance i was like 0.O OMFG wth was that. Gosh.

  • good job!

well designed disaster of a performance, self-humiliation and degredation is a catching fetish!

  • i love the Olympics!!!!!!!!!! they are the best thing ever i the bejiing were my favorite though great video.

  • Haha umm... I love london and all but...what's up with Lord nelson dressed in metallic silver and playing the guitar? 0.o that was kinda weird.

  • @xsherryxcherryx

IMO that Lord Nelson guy and that black drummer lady is about the only thing I really liked about the whole performance.

Very unique costume and also unmistakably British; it's like neo-British or something. I quite fancy it, and I think it'll be swell as long as they don't overdo it.

  • Uhhhh - that's Jimmy Page my dear. Legend of Led Zepplin. But yes I agree. Our ceremony was embarrassing.

  • this makes me feel ashamed to be british

  • LOL Boris!

  • HAHAHA good old Boris lol

  • i love UK's national anthem!

  • GOODLUCK LONDON!

  • GODBLESS LONDON!!!

  • Ok, no offense to London people but I really hope that this is not an accurate representation of your opening ceremoney because it sucks.

  • The intro video to London seems the same as the one in the Olympics.

  • Cheriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiisse ! :D

  • London olmpics are going to be terrible all round. They're setting it in one of the poorest, most depraved areas of London, we have no money, our whole promotional campaign is awful right down to that horrible logo, our government is in shambles.

At least it just sums up England perfectly.

  • Why is it that the Paralympic handover video is available to Australian viewers, but not the Olympic handover?

  • i think this was the best closing ceremony we rock (UK)

  • where is david beckham?

  • Boston 2020! The original American City and the Hub of the Universe!

  • Lol this really destroyed our image. I have feeling we're really gonna f*** up the opening to the games, especially after China did such an amazing job. And yes, Boris Johnson is an idiot who couldn't wave a flag to save his life.

  • I loved how at about 3:40, Boris Johnson looked like he was saying: "Where am I?"

  • the eng.national anthem sounds so familiar

like a christmas song or something........

  • The version of "God Save the Queen" was the same as that of the Olympics CC.

  • it's really hard to make it better than in China.. good luck!

  • @hwbxx no.. America and England can make better than this!!

  • they could of seriously done a better job at amazing people instead of those retarded dance moves & a guy dressed in a coustm plus a girl in a prom dress playing the drum... a bit disappointing...

  • madriddddd 2020!!!!

  • Beijing Olympic was superb!

  • I like my British pen friend!! ^__^ She's so kind and so sweet, in our emails i like using my terrible English to translate many Chinese traditional poems and essays for her! Go! London! "Bee Knees"!! =)

  • i think its time for the olympics to move to US.Las Vegas 2016!

  • no chance

  • US.Las Vegas 2020??

  • LONDON'S SHOW LOOKS SO RIDICULOUS!

  • The biggest embarrasment is not the deluded thoughts that China is 'better' than England because of its stadiums, or indeed that Britannia once ruled the waves a long long time ago...its that fat prick Boris Johnson, as an ambassador to our country, he's a real joke.

  • I love England and also my nice nice British pen friend, but I have to agree with you that Mr. Boris Johnson gave us bad impression on thart closing ceremony...Anyway I believe London will also release a great Olympic Games!! =)

  • I thought the London Bus thing was a misake- especially after what happened on that fateful day- what idiot ever thought that would be a good idea?

Can't waith for 2012 though- I hope the ceremonies are a bit more ingenious than this part of the closing ceremnoy- it looks like a dress rehearsal of a school production.

  • Coming from a chinese american, I'm positive london will do just fine. It has its own culture and people to showcase. Each to its own.

  • Er learn to spell in the ENGLISH language before you get on your high horse! Are you retarded or something?

  • what the hell are you on about?

  • Does anyone have the part from roughly 16.16 where the flame goes out and the children sing, without the BBC crew talking all over it? It's very nice.

  • China just pwnted >:O

  • so....China is not getting back the priceless artifacts that are sitting in the Britian museum huh? =\ please? can we have those back?

  • they could of pick a better song to play & dancers too... it's shorta crappy.. no offences :O

  • Truly horrible.. Lord Nelson playing the guitar, people with random correographis, shoddy costumes, what an embarrassment... seriously, i LOVE London and am a huge supporter of the games, but this is really awful. The main first handover with the red bus was actually quite cool and fun, but this.....

  • the dude asked the girl at the end.. "what do you think".

she said.. uh.. it was bright and breezy, i like the logo on the bus......

If only she could have said what she really wanted.

  • LOLOL : (

its so sad that the best our country has to offer is the hiphop bus, with a boring drummer.

  • couldn't boris afford a tie? lol

  • ROFLMAO! He! He! He! Ha! Ha! This is killing me. England once ruled a huge empire and is now truly a former shadow of herself. How the almighty really fall. I bet the English greatest ancestors like Lord Nelsons, Queen Victoria i.e. are already spinning their graves.

  • the empire wasnt necciserily a good thing, think of all the people that suffered because of it, all we looked like then was a scary big empire we were great we were just intimidating, i mean americas big and powerfull but its not really the most popular is it.

  • we are still a great nation, the person who come up with this is probably foreign or scottish lol. i love it here.

  • What an embarasment for what was once the greatest nation in the world! It is like some horendous politically correct vomit salad! It makes me embarrased to say i'm English!

    Steve Douglas

  • rome was unfathomably more powerful then england ever was.

  • yes but englands much much nicer (:

  • The british empire was the biggest empire in history, rome collapsed the British empire is still here, granted-many of its terratories how now been handed back, but rome is no more. Britain is here and will remain.

  • Like China London too once promoted a culture that was several thousand years old. But now it has embraced multiculture and boasts runing, rapping, jiving, umbrellas, making faces, shabby street clothes & teacups as being representative of 2000 years of history & heritage. More's the pity China hasn't been enriched too.

  • Is this Briton .....or the U.N.?

  • Is that Britain or the United Nations?

  • The UK seems to be roughly half African, judging from this video.

  • I can't believe what I'm seeing. Is this London, or Mogadishu? The Chinese were proud of their heritage, but the British hate themselves so much, they want to become extinct.

  • If I was English I'd be pretty embarrassed with the handover, 1000s of years worth of culture and all they can come up with is a few urbanites jumping around?

    For shame...

  • Well said.

  • That was disgusting frankly. I can see the future of Britain as third world cesspool from this. with all the culture Britain has for thousands of years they depict modern degenerate trash.

  • There are two things I would like to say. There are a lot of people saying "it would have been wrong to outdo the Chinese". Oh, you mean like the Chinese arrogantly out did the Greeks in Athens?

Also, England has a culture just as great as China's. China's is older but England accomplished more. Are the English afraid to show their true English culture, because unlike the Chinese, they have a large immigrant population that might be offended? Think about these things before speaking.

  • i think its going to be hard to beat china because London dosent have culture like China

  • it will be hard, but you shouldn't need all the technology china used to show people your country

  • yesyesyes!! someone who see's sence, why does it always have to be about the best stadiums etcetc, it's about sport, and i think people need to realise that.

  • i think it does, every country has culture, we may not have as much money, but we'll give it a damn good try anyway, besides most of china's was fake anyway,

  • What the hell are you on about??

London is officially the most ethinacly diverse city in the world, with over 260 different languages spoken in the city.

When i say that its the most ethinacly diverse, im not saying theres no british people there, im saying it has the highest number of different cultures/ religions etc.

It's also one of the oldest citys in the world so plently of history, and firstly, it is one of the/ the most famous city in the world.

    Ldn's very capable- trust me.

  • Agree they put on a spectacular show. They're still loaded and have probably the best array of music industry performers in the world.!

  • I agree, London is the biggest financial center in the world along with New York, China doesn't come close to the UK's capital.

  • I'm confident that the 2012 Olympic if not better than China, it will be just as good. See ya 2012 good old London

  • The only thing that was keeping me interested was the fact that I wanted to see what was gonna happen. The more I kept watching, the more I wanted to hit X. Is this what London is gonna bring? If so, they have to try harder.

  • I love Britain.

  • Is the bus driver using GPS?He can't see,he is covered LOL

  • Boris is my hero.

  • even mine! (i am Italian)

  • london 2012, I will be there...

  • i had a headache from listening to the uks

  • In fairness, it does make a change from me having a headache from the Yanks going on about how great they are

  • the narrator SERIOUSLY sucks, like majorily!

  • it's called clarity and impartiality, i wouldnt expect many other nations of the world have it in the media like the BBC.

  • lol you think the BBC is impartial?

Maybe they were one day, maybe they still are in some cases, but I mean seriously watch the news sometime..

  • I love China and the UK!!!!!!!!!

  • I like the casual uniform

    very stylish

    :-)

  • I really like that version of god save the queen, much less regal and military.

  • i really agree with you, although the choir were not perfect, that version is possibly the least dirge like i have ever heard it sung. Seen as god save the queen is such a repetative and boring anthem the emphsis on the strings was much better.

  • It looks like Boris drove a busload of shoppers from Liddel in Tower Hamlets straight to the Olympics. He hadn't time to change his clothes or shower and they had to put together a routine during rest breaks on the way over.

  • Of course London can't beat Beijing, thats because beijing employ workers who work for nothing 24 hours a day 7 days a week. We cannot do that in this country as we have a minimum pay salary. So we cannot simply afford the things they did, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it! There will be more atmosphere because to be honest i found their opening and closing ceremonies quite boring, yes they were clever BUT BORING!

this was fun to watch! olympics is about sport! come on London!

  • beijing employ workers who work for nothing 24 hours a day 7 days a week

Oh,I do not know where u get such information, that is not true!

  • UK ROB,ONE DAY ur mum queen will sending u and u bro to the North Korea

  • i hope been in london for olympic games will be awsome , london its the one most wonderful city in the world so i m very happy for the british people

  • thank you so much

  • london aint gonna try out do beijing in the wow factor no 1 can beat that, were goin 4 a laugh us brits aren't all work we like a laugh

  • i think this was really good

    its only the handover ceremony....lol

it represents london in a way people in london understand we all use the buses. we get free newspapers thrown at us every evening and we all carry umbrellas even on the hottest of days. tbh i think if they stuck to images of big ben, st pauls and the queen it would look abit predictable.

    i think this was great!

  • Im Proud To Be British :)

  • join the club

  • AMEN!

  • I think 2012 London Olympics can't beyond beijing 2008

  • CHINA was awesome and that is some very very very big shoes to fill and I dont know if london can do it

  • Those British dancers are formless and embarrassing. I hope they are no where to be seen in 3.5 years time.

  • I like the dancing :)

  • oh come on all of you, Nobody sat and watched the hole opening and closing of the 2008 olympics cos they were good but terribly BORING!. Atleast we can kee viewers. Dont say this about London , get behind London, in my opinion by history and culure i think were the best countr in the world and im proud of this and to be british!

  • Hey, China has a very rich culture and history of 5000 years, it's just the same as Britain has a nice culture and history.

  • youre right - we are; nobody has history quite like us, not all of it primarily good; but lets face it - where would the world be without the english? in mud huts i'd guess.

everyone stop hating; and if you do don't bother coming to my city. we dont need you.

  • Lets see military marches at our olympics

  • isn't whole lotta love in this video?!

  • this is why i want to leave london. this is a fine example, a fine example of what trash can come out of the city. absolute disgrace. i do hope though they will be so much better at the actual olympics. COME ON GB

  • the bus at the closing cermony of the olympic games was closed and then opened, why now is opened and then closed?

  • that one was closing of the olympic games, this is the closing of the paralympic games

  • I think our part of the presentation was not as good as the Chinese. But to be fair, I think it was right, because we would not want to try and put down what the Chinese put on. It was respectful just to have a low key presentation.

  • Your part is also great. Just different cultures.

  • It would also cost too much to put on a huge show filling up the stadium, after all it's only a handover. I agree, that was Beijing's moment and it was fantastic. Come 2012 it'll be London's moment and we'll put on something spectacular too.

  • China is communist, they can have thousands off people in their displays - do we really want to copy that, i dont. I want a more 'intimate' games from london 2012, and i think we will get it

  • Why did the male commentator said 'Remember this young lady?'... My answer is, 'I don't and should I?' (He must be thinking of Lin Miao Ke" haha!

And why did he say, "My goodness" when he saw the 'thousand-hands deaf dancers'. My reply is, "Oh my goodness, you are a goodness commentator that is"

  • that was lame lol

  • i i am so thrilled that the olympics and the paralympics are coming home, but this presentation was totally rubbish. I know we have an economic crisis against us but i hope we manage to pull it together in time to splash out a bit for an amazing party or else all eyes will be on us and we won't have an awful lot to show off. lets not let the games show that the west is paling in comparison tp the east. Go GB!

  • Yeah - our games should be great, cool to watch (especially because I wanna be there!), but this handover was poor and, erm, cheesey :(
