  • I love when Jack and Locke argue about destiny.

  • jack needed someone like john to believe, i mean look at the history , everything the other has been told, of course one is science another faith, neither of them deserve to be torn with hatred for what happened or later does happen.

  • Jack is the man, Locke was always iritating and in the end he was very wrong

  • @CroMarduk How was he wrong? Even Jack said ''He was right about most everything.''

  • @Bjack900 well he died for nothing

  • @CroMarduk I don't think he died for nothing, I think he helped Jack believe and gain faith, which helped him go back, which means that he was able to become the new Jacob and sacrifice himself and made Hugo the man in charge. It's similar to what Locke said about Boone, his death led to a chain of events that saved the Island. ''He was the sacrifice the Island demanded.''

  • @CroMarduk Died for nothing? No. His death served many purposes.

Not only did it help to change Jack, it also compelled him to act which brought everyone back to the island and it also helped MIB to execute his plan.

And Locke certainly wasn't wrong. Not only did they show that he wasn't, they even went so far as to have Jack of all people in the finale say that he was right about everything.

  • @CroMarduk I don't see how you could possibly think that Locke was wrong, or that he died for nothing. The show basically stated outright that he was right. They were brought there for a reason; Jacob brought them there to replace him. Even Jack said that Locke was right in the end of the show. And Locke's death basically inspired Jack to return to the Island, convinced him that Locke was right, and ultimately led to him defeating the Man in Black.

  • awesome video, this shows the writers knew what they were doing back in the first season

  • always loves these two best...excellent actors, interesting characters...thats when LOST was at its best!

  • Terry O'Quin rightfully got his emmy for his work on this show. He was absolutely out of this world as John Locke. His scenes with Jack and Ben are among the best you will see on TV. He is a very talented actor.

  • Jack became the new Locke towards the end... a man of faith... best tv show ever made

  • One of the best scenes I've ever seen on television. Lost was so good back then.

  • was boone really a sacrifice the island demanded, thumbs up if he was

  • though one thing is clear

John Locke was not a believer... he was a sucker

  • @maveholic

    He really was.

  • Looking back now this scene really does sum up everything. I will miss you LOST!

  • Locke called it. "You do. You just don't know it yet." By The End, Jack really does believe in destiny. GO LOCKE!

  • @hohohoho432434

Isn't it odd though? Locke was being manipulated by the smoke monster the entire time, and if Locke hadn't tried to get the Oceanic 6 back Jacob wouldn't have died.

I think Locke was dead wrong, and quite gullible most of the time.

    Jack > Locke

  • @Havenfall

I think it's hard to prove that Locke was being manipulated by the smoke monster. And I think it's safe to say that the Oceanic 6 would have ended up on the island again regardless of Locke's efforts--they were broken people, and they needed the island as it needed them. And I think the smoke monster could've manipulated Ben into killing Jacob without Locke. As to Jack>Locke, Jack even admits in the end that he wished he had believed Locke, and that he was a greater man than Jack.

  • @hohohoho432434

I have to disagree. It's state clearly in the show that the smoke monster needed to take the form of a candidate, and Locke was the easiest to manipulate. We know that the smoke monster appeared as Christian Shepherd on the island, and if you recall it was him who helped Locke find the donkey wheel. It was also the smoke monster who told Locke he needed to die.

Of course, it's hard to know exactly what happened on the show. I'm about to rewatch the series.

    <3 that show!

  • @Havenfall

Ay brotha! Great show...but hard to follow.

  • Could you imagine if there was 3 more characters in this show as amazing as Locke is... This show would then be by far the best show in the history of television......

  • Kinda think of it: Jacob is a man of faith, fake lock or nemesis is a man of science, because he thinks everything is determent: "They come, they plunger it always end's the same". Jack is a man of science, lock a man of faith, and i just kinda realized that jacks always wears dark clothes and lock white clothes.

  • Great post. One of my favorite scenes as well.

I really miss the old, living Locke.

  • Jack and Locke are the type of characters that need each other and for us the audience, we have to learn to appreciate them and understand them because if you choose to just dislike one or the other from a judgmental stance your not meant to watch a series like lost!

  • And finally Jack believe in destiny :)

  • fuck this is like the key point in the whole lost tv series, this explains so much

  • when the music kicks in at 0:53...it's fucking perfect. the best scenes in lost or always either locke & jack or locke & ben scenes. this scene just sums up perfectyl why it's my favorite show ever.

  • Faith = emotion

  • jack and locke are the core of this show. Season one was the best and its gone downhill since. Mostly because of the whore that is kate.

  • Forgive me but I strongly disagree with you. I think the show is MUCH MUCH better then it was in season 1. The last 2 seasons (4th and 5th) have been fantastic, and the season finale of season 3 imo is one of the best finales of any tv show ever.

  • Season 5 has been epic so far but season 4 both lacked mystery and faith in my opinion. Was still a good season though.

  • i thought the same, expected more from season 4 when season 3 ended...

  • Everyone keeps saying Jack gets "owned" but so what! Let's face it in the same situation most people would behave the way Jack did! Who would believe that an island has magic powers and gave them a destiny! Jack may be wrong but he is behaving logically! Which is Jack's biggest problem!

  • yeah ur right...he always trying to do his best...hes a science man...!

  • @patoalvo I don't think most people would behave the way Jack did if they were on an island where you witness a polar bear, a monster made of smoke uprooting trees and tossing people in the air, and seeing images of dead people. Jack is just clearly in denial, and very stubborn, his behaviour is not anymore normal than Locke's. They're both on opposite extremes, hence the whole Man of Science vs Man of Faith idea. Part of Jack's development over the seasons involved him giving into his faith.

  • @SplitFear01

Or the 'middle path', as I like to call it. Justified skepticism, and only justified faith.

  • @patoalvo

I don't think Jack got owned at all. I mean, Locke was really, really gullible, and he was wrong. The path didn't "end" at the hatch. Locke was being manipulated by the smoke monster, and died so that the smoke monster could kill Jacob.

    Jack > Locke

  • Hah, Jack gets so owned since he's so in denial about everything. The conversation in 'There's No Place Like Home' has an even better conversation than this one between these two.

  • Jack just got pwnd.

  • The one thing I don't like about this conversation is Locke citing Boone's death as necessary. Something about it seems so cold.

  • If u think about it, Locke was very much correct, even though he did not know why Boone died. If Boone didn't die, Locke would not have gone to the hatch door and knock on it. This gives Desmond hope that he wasn't alone anymore and it prevents him from killing himself. If Boone wasn't killed, Desmond would have killed himself, and the world would have ended.

  • TEAM FATE! LOCKE ROCKS!! Look what happened to Jack when he got of the island. His life became a fuck-up when he left the island.

  • i love this show

  • Locke > GOD

  • john locke rules!

  • Jack and John make this show really interesting. That scene really showed their beliefs and continued to show another theme of LOST: Fate vs. Free Will.

  • Jack 0 John 1. :p owned.

  • how? John is completely wrong...the hatch was meaningless.

  • It had a meaning since if Desmond was not there with the key, the world would end. or the Island.

  • right!

  • No, Locke was very much correct. While the path didn't end at the Hatch, he was right about everything else. And If Desmond killed himself the world would have ended so it was essential they crashed there.

  • the hatch was essential! what are you talking about??

  • The hatch meaningless? Yeah right. It was very important and still is.

  • @UrijahFaberbeast

If I'm remembering everything right. The smoke monster wanted Locke to open the hatch, so he could manipulate John into not pushing the button. Not pushing the button lead Widmore to the island, which allowed the Oceanic 6 to leave. The smoke monster (disguised as Christian) told him he had to get the oceanic six, and the smoke monster (disguised as Locke) told Locke he had to die to do so.

It was a long con to kill Jacob.

  • Erm....I'm still waiting for it to load, is it huge? Or does this video take forever for some reason?

  • Oh, it loaded. Never mind!! Great excerpt! Love it.

  • don't be horrid bout jack. he's da best character in it!!

  • Don't tell me what I can or can't do...

  • jack is such a whiny dick =)

  • jacks gay, locke cool.

  • Im view 500 WHEE!

  • Locke Wins

  • First post again... The convo seems to explain quite a bit about the island... interesting...
