Forget the made up quote - which Don is clearly proud that he can read. This man is bone chillingly stupid.
Really, he's less articulate than Billy Bob Thornton's character in Sling Blade.
And can anyone transcribe that last sentence he tries to construct? It's something like: "The same problem that if he and been successful we have not had the freedom of the people in this country."
Lincoln's anti-Mexican war speech can be found in "The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln," Vol. 1, 431-442 Basler edition, 1953. Besides implying that Pres. Polk was a liar and a murderer, he described militarism as "that attractive rainbow that rises in showers of blood." An amazing speech, and chillingly relevant today.
What makes this doubly ironic is that Lincoln made an antiwar speech when HE was a Congressman, calling President Polk a liar and a murderer, while US troops were fighting in Mexico. In fact, Lincoln described Polk's reasoning as "the half insane mumbling of a fever dream." So I guess to Republicans today Lincoln would have just been another liberal traitor.
J. Michael Waller, shit journalist for the Washington Times basically made up the quote. Don Young used a fake quote from a bad journalist from a crap newspaper, and publically called for the execution of his fellow congresspeople on the floor of the House.
Bozos voting for Iraq's illegal invasion and occupation "damage the morale & undermine the military."
Lincoln suspended Habeas Corpus.
Starving Sioux were attacked while picking up eggs. He hung 38 at once. In 15-minute trials, the court refused to hear any defense, including from rescued whites.
AK Sen. Ernest Gruening rejected Johnson's Gulf of Tonkin resolution. Mike Gravelle defied Nixon, reading the Pentagon Papers into the Congressional Record. Frank Smith - Kansas
Actually Lincoln himself opposed the Mexican-American War when he was a member of the House of Representatives and claimed that the war was a result of President Polk's desire for military glory.
I'm baffled by these people. Thousdands of Americans dead in Iraq in a war based on lies -- and now these jack-asses are just shoving words into the mouth of a dead president.
Don't these people have staffers to fact check these things? Or did he know he was quoting a fictional quote invented by a Washington Times columnist in 2003? Either way, a very sorry spectacle, and an even sorrier debating tactic.
It's amazing how delusional Bush's sheeple are. They keep trying to compare him to the greatest presidents in history, when it's becoming more and more obvious that history will place him in a totally different category.
Impeach Don Young. Or just go to his office and drag the old sludge out. All of them.

ok dems. what horrible things did lincoln say about black people?
glamourpho 7 months ago
@glamourpho I'm not a democrat but lincoln did say that there was no question about blacks being equal to whites, even if they weren't enslaved.
not that saying something like that would be out of the norm for the period, but you asked, so there you go.
filestreet 3 months ago
@glamourpho he and the northerners crushed slavery by making the white South their bitch, and southerner whites are STILL butthurt about it!

The guy uses a fake quote.
The guy thinks it's unAmerican to question the President.
And, on top of everything else, the guy says "I'd like to make a quote."
What a maroon.

Of course, Abe Lincoln said nothing of the kind.
