i hate this 90's and onwards college ska . prince buster was the shit - also the skatalites , millie small , ethiopians and a lot more kickass stuff from trojan records . only trojan skinheads are real skinheads
Skenzed - Thanks for the ABC history lession - but Ska isn't exactly a mystery. But for those who found it helpful - try checking out the 'first wave', the Prince, Ethiopians, Pioneers, Maytells, Skatalites, Jimmy Cliff when he was young - even Marley when he was in the Wailing Wailers. If you like the Beat, you should like some of the best origional SKA.
SKA originated in Jamaica in the 50's. 1st Wave and Prince Buster. IT was the precursor to rocksteady and reggae. The Mods picked it up in the early 60's. The 2nd Wave began in the 70's. The Specials, The Beat, Madness etc. 2nd Wave Ska was multiracial hence 2Tone records. But the racist Skinheads spoiled it all with their rioting and club fights. A later 3rd Wave happened in the 90's with mostly american bands jumping in. England had moved on by then and was trancing it's way to oblivion.
@zoconino, kewl to hear that the music is still going strong. BTW, been to DR, loved the country and the people. Still more after hearing you love the ska. WOHOW!
I saw them do this live at Bestival '09, it was really good - much better than this recording. the whole set was really good - his son rinsed it at the end.

when Smokey Robinson kicks the bucket he will immediately roll over in his grave....nah jk its not that bad it just does no justice to the original Motown Classic
Great video mate- great track only its by The Special Beat. The megaband made up of members of The Specials/The Beat/The Loafers. Well put together though.

its funny that they are doing a cover of a motown song since 2 Tone records was trying to be the Motown of England
