  • love them sante fe warbonets. : < wish bn / sf never merged. miss my green / black bn

  • ahh yes, the good old days... great video!

  • Piff! Pigs, why not see a GEEP fly!?!?

  • WOW!!!! It looks more like 80 mph!! ;D

  • @trinityct If it isn't 80 mph! Its probably pretty darn close to it. I was going to write it in the video discription, but I have an BNSF 80mph pasing video on here, and even though we have a video of the speed-o-meter at 80, there are some saying, no way. I, and others say, YES! WAY! Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk Ah, those stupid skeptics. People are so sure that my 150 mph Acela video isn't 150 mph.......They shouldn't have skipped math and algebra class..... :P

you could say 75 mph as a compromise :)

  • @trinityct They probably never experienced the NEC, or went to math class, LOL. I rode from Philly to Newark back in the early 80's, and I remember passing a speed restriction sign that said 110. I thought! HOLY COW. Then after we passed the restriction, you could feel the train accelerating.

  • @1jackdk Haha lol I have stood less than 5 feet from a 150 mph Acela!!!! INSANE!!!! :D You should check out Mansfield or Kingston sometime. Its AWESOME!!! :D

  • i always called K3LAs "screechers" from their wimpy sound. But this one sounds...better. I guess UP neglects their horns

  • LOO KIDS...HIGH SPEED FREIGHT TRAINS

  • ATSF...HELL YEAH!

  • I think After CSX Merger it became permnant (EX: Chessie Systems,Famly Systems,ACL) it became permant after 1990.

  • Ah, just like the days of the old WM and ATSF...CSX and BNSF still carry-on their traditions of high-speed freight service!

  • fast and reliable...what the fuck happened?

  • the golden days...how I miss the Santa Fe

  • Love the yellow bonnets and the grafiti-less freight cars!

  • thats why i love the sana fe. nice video.

  • santa fe was running over the gwwr then to

  • Great video, Jack !!

  • @Jack

20 years later those GP60M's are still in service, however the SDP40's and the other power in that drag freight are long gone, thanks for posting this Jack.

  • wow very impresive comp of videos, exelents seed s its like i almos fealt the wind ! ths and favorite

  • @Jack

Didn't Amtrak have some serious problems with the SDP40F's?

  • @CarNutandTrainNut2 Yes they did! I think some railroads even restricted the speed that they could travel. The problem was with the trucks if I remember correctly. The unit would like to hunt going down the rail. I don't know if ATSF fixed that problem in the rebuilding process or not, but being used as freight motors, the high speed was needed, and may have even been re-geared. Thanks for watching...

  • @1jackdk one of the possible problems bought up, was the water inside the tanks of the steam generators. When It would slosh around, it would shift the weight of the unit enough to derail it. Santa Fe filled the steam generator equipment area with weight and never had any issues.

  • @jimmyp42002 Thanks! I never knew that!

  • @CarNutandTrainNut2 Yeah, they did :P These units acted like the North East Corridors, E60MA's another 6 axle passenger diesel designed for Amtrak high speed service on the NEC. Both these types of engines would yaw, pitch, hunt and bounce vertically and side to side at the slightest issue with the track. amtrak restricted the E60MA's speeds from 125 mph to 90 (imagine it shaking that much at 125 mph!!!) and meanwhile the SDP40F's were sold to Santa Fe, and they restricted their speeds too.

  • Thats the day after I was born! Cool.

  • Wow! 20 years ago!

  • Nice catch in 91! The first train sounds like the passenger trains that blow by us at 70-80. I love it!

  • Nice!

  • Great video. The freight operators in USA still like their mixed trains. In Australia, we mainly have unit trains going from one point to a fixed destination. One type of freight is transported at a time,be it coal, wheat, iron ore or containers.

    Thanks

  • wow amazing horn, what kinda horn is that and i just notice the horn sounds like the conrail from Trainz 2006

  • Comment removed

  • @cd949604 That's because it was a Nathan K3LA, same horn. A healthy sounding one too, not like on newer locomotives like the Dash 9.

  • @Hightrain12 oh,well thats good, sounds lovely.. the new dash 9 horns sound alright, but overall the older train horns sound way better

  • @cd949604 It's a K3LA.

  • Nice! I was about an hour outside of Oakland, CA, in the middle of the desert. and we were pacing one of the BNSF lines! As were were, we spotted a headlight way off. We thought we had time to set up, but in about 30 seconds the crossing gates were down, and a BNSF UPS piggyback train came flying through! It had SF on it too! Even though your video was shot years before I went to CA, This video is a great reminder of it!

  • Love the video Jack....I live in Illinois!!

  • Jack. Thanks for the memories. My favorite Santa Fe locomotive were the cowls (F45 & FP45).

  • Wow, what an outstanding K3LA on that GP60M! Excellent Video Jack!

  • Nice video Jack! Thanks for the title credit too!

  • @ConrailQ6759 You bet!! That was a good. Thanks again...

  • Awesome!

  • i could jus imagine the speed a train being pulled by either a quad of B40-8Ws or a quad of GP60Ms would get up on that track there. 70mph is awesome!! Love this vid!

  • Classic ATSF right there. Great video.
