this message is what God says in his word he loves everyone no matter who you are and it's up to you to take that love and change to become someone worthy of being called his child
@CuteChick319 I partially disagree with you on that, because none of us are worthy to be his child. We cannot do anything to make ourselves worthy, we can only come to him through Jesus. We will never be worthy enough no matter what we change about ourselves but God loves us so much that he provided a way for us to be with him(:
He just has another kind of humor than we have! We find laughter in a knock-knock joke, God finds laughter in killing a little child or killing ten thousand ppl at once with an earthquake, hunger, war,..
So we pray to you god that we are not the subject of your next joke.
People know God is love, and the only way to receive His love and be saved is to repent, receive Him as their only Savior, be baptized in Jesus Name and by the Holy Spirit. They know that but they don't come to Him; thats why their sins are still there. Sins cannot be with God because He is Holy. "Without holiness no man shall see the Lord. Hebrews 12:14" We can be holy only through His Blood which was shed on the Cross for our sins.
I know God is bigger than I can even imagine and His love is limitless, but let's not give the wrong Idea by saying He won't punish those who live a sinful lifestyle without repentance. We need to temper this message.......Because someone will get the wrong idea and say I can do whatever I want cause God is Love.......He's also just and righteous. God is a consuming Fire.....I'm glad He loves me but I need to respond to that love, repent and live the way He wants me to.
it's want it doesn't say that gives me reservations. Omissions sometimes speak volumes to people who are looking for an excuse to be involved in sinful behavior. With those omissions you can gather that certain behavior is not deemed condemned by God. That's how I see it..
considering the context, God loving Jacob and hating Esau has nothing to do with the human emotions of love and hate. It has everything to do with God choosing one man and his descendants and rejecting another man and his descendants.
@sharethefaith I realize you posted this comment a long time ago, but I didn't see that anyone got back to you. Scripture definitely says that God hated Esau. Here are some verses to check out: Malachi 1:3 and Romans 9:13. It's something worth pouring over and talking about with others.
considering the context, God loving Jacob and hating Esau has nothing to do with the human emotions of love and hate. It has everything to do with God choosing one man and his descendants and rejecting another man and his descendants.
if you were to hear him explain this song, it makes it greater. he is on "Worship Together Live" Tour and I went to the conference / training. It was great.
Christians need to stretch their thinking about God's love. "For God so loved ... THE WORLD." That includes everybody. He did everything necessary so that anybody can come to Him, just as he is, and be receive with open arms. God can do what we have a hard time doing : hate the sin, but love the sinner. And by the way, we are all sinners, all on equal ground before our Holy Godm who LOVES us, wants a personal relationship with us. Thanks Michael Gungor for this pertinent message.
True, and I really wish the contents of this song weren't such a wake up call to some people. Also... I would have liked more attributes of God listed than the one highlighted by 95% of praise songs. Like how about a verse about not judging people because judgement is God's alone? Sure its covered by love, but the song starts sounding like some hippie song out of the 60's.
Uh, no, because Christians will grab and reproduce anything that they find moving. Its great for him, for his worship, but it doesn't really help for public worship aside from, again, the unfortunate fact that Christians actually need such a wake up call sometimes.
Just because someone is singing from their heart doesn't mean my mind can't process it and come up with ways they could make it better for other people.
I have found when I start diminishing some of God's attributes with a "yeah, that's true but..." thinking, I'm well on my way to missing the point. In my own experience, that is the foundation of denominalization. Each one finds a certain facet of God that they think everyone else is missing and feel like they have discovered the missing link to God. My joy: grow through the journey and see what pieces of truth I can pull out of each of the different denominations (obviously tested w/ the Word).
Right, so you get what I'm saying about the need to talk about more than just God's love, the subject of 95% of contemporary Christian songs, and speak on issues in contexts that we all haven't heard 100 times before.
yes.. But love is what this world hangs on. It is the greatest of all and the foundation. Everything always leads me back to God's love. From his wrath to his wonderful mercy.. it's because of his love.
*Sigh* Look, I'm not contesting that God's love is quintessentially important and invaluable. You used the term foundation right? It's incredibly important to assure people of a strong foundation to a home.... But eventually you just come to understand that the foundation is there, or you should. Who constantly talks about their houses foundation? Can't the Christian community talk about some other things? And also get a new interior decorator to get some colors besides white and pastels?
Why would me move past the fact that God sent His only son??
"Goodness, this person saved my life, by dying for me. They love so much...*2 weeks later* meh. Moving on"
Really? I realise that was a dumb example, but nonetheless. God is not a political debate, so why do we try to debate Him? God is love. God is good. Read the Bible if you want to know more. Personally, I like hearing that God loves us.

the only problem is that we cant live the way he wants us to with out Christs death

The song actually doesn't say that God doesn't punish the wicked. It's simply stating a fact a bout a particular aspect of God.
