  • Screw this. I like my job the best. I fly helicopters for shell oil. I fly to oil platforms at $145/hr. I'm a hobby welder yet professional pilot. Safer job and I'm always warm.

  • it is the best

  • awesome!

  • This guys only practising. It's in a tank. He's not a welder, probably any early attempt. I can tell, 'cause I've been at underwater welding for 10 years! It's not a coding test piece he's got there, it's def not a job, the earth clamps miles away on the bench with the piece not clamped or tacked down. He's welding towards himself, which most welders don't do too. Plus, that looks like a 4mm rod, which no-one would use for a root pass. Welding money's not bad, but the figures on here are wildly

  • Not that this isn't cool to watch, but this looks like a serious pain in the ass. Last thing I would want during a weld is to start floating away from it.

  • Really depends on locale too.Read about the antarctic welder who was making 900 an hour.

  • nice clip. To bad tho that there was no welding screen in front of the camera, then you would see the welding better...

  • Under Walter welding :B

  • A bad time to be a fish.

  • Do you have a auto darkening helmet?

  • FUCK LOGIC

  • dont these welders get like 100-300 an hour n cant do it for more than a year

  • @ElChe354 first aprrentice gets 125$ an hour lol im in welding class n my welding teacher said that... thats pretty damn good money lol

  • @ElChe354 100 an hour and a dollar for every foot u go under water

u can do it for as long as u want i think but it makes your bones brittle so if u do it for say 10 years a punch could break ur arm but dont quote me i dont plan on doing it for a career im sticking to above ground lol

  • how come the electric doesnt arc through the salt water and electrocute the welding person..?

  • @pmay222 because he is wearing a wet suit.

  • @pmay222 - It doesn't arc through the water because the voltage isn't high enough. Arc welding equipment supplies very high current (amperage), but at relatively low voltage.

  • who ever thought of this..

    is veryyyy stupid..

    BUT veryyyyyyy smart hahaha

  • must be a 7014

  • great location ... away from the nagging missus

  • @TheEaglesforever

    hilarious

  • Sorry people these people do not make 300 dollars per hour. It is more like 40. Yes thats rigt $40 per hour. A saturation diver makes 900 to 1200 dollars per day not hour. I think i might know a little about it i have been doing it for about 10 years now working for a company called global divers out of louisianna. We do make depth pay though 1 dollar per foot to 100 feet and another doller per foot for every 50 feet after that.

  • @ctracysl37 bullshit!!!!! they hire 400 and hour and free rooms to stay in near my residence

  • @ctracysl37 most probably the company bills out @ $300 per hour and pays the diver next to nothing compared to what the company brings in.

  • @circusboy90210 If he works for an oil rig he may get $5k a day, that's an experienced diver though

  • @circusboy90210 Yeah, because the company get's the shit taxed out of it. And has little things like, overheads...

  • @realvanman1 yes welding contractors a tax deductible expense who work for $5k a day.

  • i was offshore doing this and got one of those electrodes aka the silver stick that is attached to the handel stuck in my dick and my buddy turned it on and it cooked it like a hot dog but i will keep doing this it is my passion

  • @blindbykorn1994 Does it still get hard? Id like to see it!!! Not queer just curious...

  • @poopeybritches o yes my friend it gets hard as a stone matter of fact a few weeks ago i was underwater playing with stuff i aint suppose to and got it pinched in a auto handel c clamp but its back in shape just all banged up

  • @blindbykorn1994 theres something very wrong with you...

  • @JWA8402 ha no its just you got to get wacky with the seamen if you get me

  • What is this wizardry?

  • Make $1 per foot then after every fifty feet you make an extra dollar

  • Lots of guys work 6 Months a year and rake in like 300000... You def. need to drop money on your own personal decompression chamber tho.. so ur lookin at 150,000 for that.. it be a sweet life tho.. retire so early.

  • my uncle does this its called a saturation diver he gets payed $900 to $1000 a hour working for the refinery he goes out to sea for about a month and works 4 days a week 12 hour shifts good money but yo don't get to enjoy it you are never home

  • BOOMMMMM IF THAT BUBBLE POPS!

  • This is ok if you want to be a Road Whore.

  • I'm just now getting used to vertical, this is going to take a few years. (as in 7-12

  • Sounds like a profession that makes big bucks, but thanks to Obama, after taxes, pays the same as a hotel desk clerk (only kidding).

  • @evilunixuser1 a profession that also ruins ur health in the long run, theres only so many years u can do it.

  • @stu67456 how is this huy ruining his health hes in a scuba suite. hes not inhaling anything.

  • @Sheckter88 the undrewater pressure affects your lungs in the long term.

  • @Sheckter88 the flucauation rate in pressure changes that these guys go through on a regular basis does to your cardiovascular and pulmonary organs what happens to astronauts skeletal systems from changing out of zero gravity and earth atmospheres. both jobs put your body in environments where its not designed to go. make no mistake about it these welders take days off their lives every dive.

  • @evilunixuser1 a welder is just another blue collar worker , yet according to nobuma , they are uber rich. what a moron.

  • @circusboy90210 idk what nobuma said but underwater welders that work for oil companies make good money...

  • man i hate it when i cant get an arc

  • I was waitin for the gas bubble to pop and a big bang!

  • why do it if the pay is rubbish boilermaker/welders get 25 to 32 per hr here in brisbane aus and in the mines it's more 40 to 60 per hr doing 4 weeks on 1 week off or 6 on 2 off 12 hr days I'd rather that than dieing underwater

  • Yea but the life expentacy for an underwater welder is really short, i heard its like 7,8 years (obviously it depends on the person welding) bt still thats pretty wild. dangerous work

  • @6EseLoco9 thats what u heard but thats no true.

  • you can just go fuck yourself newton

  • you have to have some serious balls to to this shit lol....but if your good at it you make a helluva lot of money

  • looks like a lot of fun

  • I stopes doing underwater welding caz of the pressure that's on u

  • @51235465789 well speaking like that I doubt you have ever held down any kind of job. Hello....Dickhead.

  • how is that even possible -.-

  • @likes0sexy0boys crazy dangerous. hope to do this someday

  • @likes0sexy0boys: It works, and has been in use for many years , you could do it if you were shown how , and safe. But I would find it hard to watch my work , to busy watching for something behind me ready to eat me , I guess you could always zap your attacker , but damn ,no wonder they make serious cash $ . monkeyBoner773 is right , its not magic , it works , way to intense for me

  • @likes0sexy0boys electricity

  • Now that's cool.

Bet the visibility is pretty poor?

  • @HeidenreichFIN they probably have an auto darkining helmet

  • i just started my underwater welding job in charleston sc........work for a month then the next month off haah

  • thats what iam going to college for they make 96 gs a year starting out!

  • @loves2getdrunk22 and by the way fresh out of dive school you will be a diver tender for about 2 years, making about 15 an hour or so, if you work offshore you wil have 84 hours aweek though.......thats if you can make it....

  • does anyone know if there scuba hoods are auto darkening?

  • what elecrod were using under water?

  • @dvd0505 looks like a E7018 to me

  • @dvd0505 yeah looks like e7018 1/8

  • Do all the nearby fish get flashed?

  • @Manning713 lol just a bunch of blind fish no biggie lol

  • underwater welding look fire (pun intended)

  • wow..yan ako hgosto ko underwater welding

  • Comment removed

  • Take that laws of physics!

  • @ValentinSuperThug HAHAHAHA!!

  • @ValentinSuperThug Um i just found out about arc wielding this is not fire underwater its electricty it creates a arc between the metal and wielding device.

  • @april76301 But who got a laugh out of it?(:

  • @ValentinSuperThug I found out a few minutes later its not fire its electricty so i did laugh then i found out. (:

  • @april76301 Haha, well now I know too(x

  • The average yearly salary for underwater welders can rage anywhere from $90,000 - $200,000 depending on area of work and how dangerous the job is.

  • iam going to a techinacal school for that thanks

  • @ska8r411 Of course your getting your info from a buddy, now someone like me, who is a commercial diver whos been doing it longer than "julst outta collage" can tell you, that yeah you will make between 20-50 a hour but as a DIVER. Usually they are a tender first making 10-15 a hour and that can last a couple years. As far as the 6+ year experience making 150 or more, dont quite work like that amigo. You get paid what your worth and what certifications and experience you bring to the table

  • @thewills12 One of my instructors told me that if you are good at your job and willing to travel you can make up to half a million a year.

  • This type of work makes the marrow in your bones become porous and brittle but as far as the life-span being 5 years I think that's because of the shit that always goes wrong on a real job underwater (i.e.welding in a swampy ass river and not accounting for the tree that fell into the water 10mi. upstream and that now is tumbling towards you a few feet below the surface.) ---But that is a pretty blue water tank to learn in! Have a nice day.

  • So what, do the same chemical principles still apply?

  • the 5 year life span thing is a myth and so is making the big bucks doing this. In reality if your a commercial diver and you do it for many years then it can take a toll on the body, however welding isnt going to kill you any sooner. Also making the fat cash is a myth. You get paid as a diver and welding underwater is just something you might get asked to do. Wanna make money, go weld on a pipeline abover water

  • @thewills12 Bullshit. Get your facts straight,my buddy is making $20-$50 depending on what jobs he takes. And thats right out of college that is only 5 months long. After your 6+ years experience you get $150+ a hour.

  • @thewills12 hear hear, listen to this person people...

  • Can anyone tell me how much you can earn in this type of work

  • @biglad234

it really all depends on your employer, job type, work load, length of employment, etc. but i'd say at least 70k a year minimum.

  • @TheNecrologist i know a guy that trains people how to dive i thinking of giveing it a go but havent a clue about welding and were i would learn , i live in uk

  • @biglad234 Its not easy to be one but, you have to take courses in welding, material properties and under water welding, And to be able to understand that am sure you will have to be fit in physics.

Am Egyptian , i had to finish my Industry Engineering studies (Welding, Physics, Math, Drawing, Material Testing, Material properties Etc...) and then take underwater welding courses .

  • @biglad234 I'm in ayear long welding course at a vocational school, then im going to a commercial diving academy, the one i am going to is the only school in the u.s that is world renowned and accepted, they are associated with specialty welds limited in the uk. check them out. the one i am going to is the commrecial diving academy in jacksonville florida, they have a pretty cool website, all the information you need....good luck

  • @matt41083 whats the website called?

  • @loves2getdrunk22 commercialdivingacademy. com, its expensive, from what i hear you have to be a hard ass to stay in the business, most students that even graduate end up quiting before the first year. I recommend talking to an experienced diver before spending the 25k.

  • @loves2getdrunk22 I might save the 25k and join the pipefitters union if you work steady you can make just as much mon ey and the school is free....they have a 16 week pipe welding course....its highly recommended to have welding experience before trying this course...they don't fuck around...they aren't going to hold your hand. It all depends , I'm not compeletly sure what i'm going to do there are multiple factors to consider....

  • @matt41083 thanks man

  • @biglad234 your welcome man

  • @biglad234 diving is the easy part you would have to learn mass shit

  • @biglad234 a shit ton

  • i just finished my underwater welding and underwater burning course in school. was pretty easy. fyi, there is no underwater welding certification. you work for a dive company and if there is welding needed you have to cert for that specific job. and by the way, i go to divers institute of technology in seattle and love it, only 7 month program, check out the website.

  • lol viewer nr 300 000!

  • Good luck with the 4 year life span.

  • there is one in Houston but idk bout anywere else

  • i build boat docks and sometimes i have to weld underwater its same as welding above except its hard to stay still

  • hard welding right there I'm in college for tig and this

  • @lpbulldogs1 what college? ive been wanting to go to a class for underwater welding, but they closed down that section now.

  • Naaaa under water welding is simple as any other stick welding, same rod

  • this is sick im going to gcit for welding and hoping to do this ones im outa highschool

  • fucken dopE!

  • pretty cool..

  • i live in next to the LA harbor and there is a cost guard station there, and i was wondering if they teach underwater welding? so far i only got my LA city certification for manual process

  • Someone rescue the camera man QUICK!

  • my buddy makes $300 an hour from this company... he fixes the tubes that suck water in to cool down the equitment inside its around 80ft down... i think... all i know is he makes a shit ton of money

  • @xXCREATERXx shit man im interested in doing welding

  • @jamesso7 lol its not that easy as it look sin the video. u hv to hv a ton of experience

  • @xXCREATERXx Arc wielding does pay.

  • @april76301 yea depending on the job you can get $200/hour+

  • @xXCREATERXx So does your buddy make one dollar per foot of water? cause from wha ti read 300dollars a hour means your in 300 feet of water welding lol.

  • i'v learned alot from this vid look it up

    Underwater Welding

3 of 5 from "Welding" on Modern Marvels from The History Channel. Half science and half art, the ancient technology of welding is integral to ...

    by Architekton33 |

  • UNDERWATER WELDERS MADE 200$/HR AT THE FOUNTAINS AT BELLAGIO...

  • Nice.. No need to worry about the sparks flying anywhere. Or breathing smoke for that matter.. Maybe I should sink my car the next time it gets welded. xD

  • This is a very good job to know. But also very dangerous for sure.

  • i wanna try that !!!!

  • How much does an underwater welder makes per year? roughly

  • @zzSalvationzz After a few years as a tender, you average around $40000/yr. The big numbers you hear thrown around are the exception. The big private schools that teach it like to advertise an inflated figure. Better keep your money and learn on the job. Go to south Louisiana and look up some companies that do this. I here there is a much cheaper public vocational school down there that teaches this type of welding. Save your money; don't jump into the hype. And yes it is dangerous.

  • cool ass shit man

  • @Tevujin experience man, its allll experience. Trust me I welded steel for years before I got my first aluminum gig, it looked like shit lol. But it all comes to you after awhile man

  • Can you use this to fix the oil leak in the Gulf rig to stop the flow?

  • Im new to Welding. How important is it to wear overalls and gloves when Arc welding steel? I have a mask and welder, electrodes etc but not overalls and gloves so how important are they?

  • @bladezgame If you ever arc weld the brightness could give severe sunburns to your skin. Mig welding is a mandatory to wear a welding jacket, mig gloves and possibly a cap to prevent sparks flying into your hair.

With arc welding you need any skin exposed to be covered as well. Overalls work just fine for Arc and Tig. It just depends on the thickness of the overalls. Plus I suggest flame retardant stuff JUST in case. Safe than sorry amirite?

  • Looks like the tables at DIT in Seattle... Underwater welding sure is fun!

  • how is tht possible wouldnt the flame just go out

  • @Nickfoxrider24 there is no flame involved in arc welding, it is just an electric current that is fusing the metal, not melting it with heat

  • @DoctorKnockers76 but how dosent the water extinguish the arc?

  • @joesatriani1200rulez Well it isn't a flame but there is still heat melting the metal, this is caused by the current through the arc. The salt water is conductive and so will leach some of this current away from the arc (from stick to the surrounding earthed metal) but it certainly will not stop the current flowing, as long as the current flows there will be plenty of heat to melt metal. Or to put it another way, the arc was not on fire in the first place so cannot be extinguished.

  • @joesatriani1200rulez Arc welding is an electrical short, that is what creates the heat not flame. Some under water welding is done with thermetic materials (chemical reaction struck by lighting magnesium which you can do with an arc welder)

  • @joesatriani1200rulez Well just like in regular above water welding the flux coating on the rod forms a gas shield that keeps out oxygen and in this case water and oxygen

  • Offshore welders earn $2,775.00 per 84 hr. work week. If you would like to work offshore, send to me your email address. If you would like to work as a helper, or roustabout, or cook, send to me your email address.

  • @moseseseseses where im from welders make 100 dollars an hour canadian and work 80hrs a week

  • @Branflake791

    you're in alberta then

  • Divers can not be soley underwater welders. That is a huge misconception. When a welding job comes along, we get to weld. There is far more burning going on in the field compared to how often we weld. Divers are jacks of all trades. If you're working inland, you can do salvage, bridge/pier inspection, HAZMAT diving (nuclear, sewage, contaminated water etc), ships husbandry. Offshore, you generally maintain rigs and pipeline.

  • You can also get into Saturation diving, which brings in the big bucks. But you'll never be solely an underwater welder, you're a commercial diver who got on a welding job.

  • nice, always wanted to try that

  • we were told by our plumbing teacher before that 1 of his old students is doin this now and that he works 6 month contracts for 90,000 euro

  • @metalwhitedragon they usually get paid 50-60 just STARTING off. but have tons of bounus . they have add up to 100-150 an hour with them

  • i think

  • Sorry about the last post, youtube is fucking stupid now. I think it would be so wierd having a normal day at shop class, but under water.

  • do you get paid lots money?

  • They can get paid over 100,000

  • is that a rubber suit?

  • he risks of underwater welding include the risk of electric shock to the welder. To prevent this, the welding equipment must be adaptable to a marine environment, properly insulated and the welding current must be controlled. Commercial divers must also consider the safety issues that normal divers face; most notably, the risk of decompression sickness following saturation diving due to the increased pressure of inhaled breathing gases.

  • @LucienLachance007 they wear rubber gloves to prevent electrical shock i had watched a vid before this one and learned alot about this

  • @lilsweetfeetbro

I quoted that from Wikipedia, lol. Rubber gloves can only do so much.

  • That should be hard as hell?

  • not 100 percent on the underwater job that the guy at my school is getting it's through the marine core. and yes it is radioactive the flux coating on the rod leaves the bead and all melted pieces of the metal radioactive, due to the fact your adding filler rod that has it's own gaseous shield.

  • i wonder how hard it is to get life insurance???

  • im thinking of doing this. im 22, love scuba and enjoy welding. any tips?

  • Insulate well. Remember that your work is going to cool extremely fast.

  • ocean crop in

  • welding is known as being extremely dangerous in general mostly due to the fact that if your working on something it becomes radioactive plus the material is very hot 2800 degrees and often times you are in less than convenient positions to attempt perfect welds, being submerged only adds to it's danger. mostly the oxygen you use is bad for you underwater and for extended periods of time, pressure build up, and the possibility of being eaten alive by a shark, because you can't see anything.

  • No matter what you weld it does not become radioactive. You are never modifying the nuclei of the materials involved.

Depending on the welding process varying amounts and frequencies of potentially harmful EM radiation, including x-rays are generated at the arc.

  • @mcskifter You've done it before?

  • @Mastermind109 Welding? Plenty.

Underwater welding? I've only made attempts at it.

  • @mcskifter X-RAYS WTF thought the only thing you had to worry about from and DC current weld was UV rays, never heard of X-rays in welding unless it's a nondestructive test.

  • @mcskifter ...but watch our for thoriated tungsten when tigging ;)

  • Under water welding makes big bucks and it's hard

  • @miketasc $20-$50 an hour right out of college

  • @miketasc

yes, big bucks but very dangerous... health is on the line. short life span I should say. more like paying the insurance for a nice funeral for yourself. reality that is.
