may i add that the new Microsoft Office formats (.docx, .pptx, .xlsx, etc.) are only fully compatible with Microsoft Office products. OpenOffice can open these formats, but it cannot save in these formats. A .docx takes up less memory than .doc and maybe even .pdf.

I am very familiar with Microsoft Office 2003, 2007, & 2010, AS WELL as Open Office. Open Office is great, I used it when I couldn't afford MS Office. But there was one thing you said on this comparison -- and that was "compatibility." I don't know if you know it, but .doc is the UNIVERSAL word processor document file, and Microsoft Word is fully compatible in that. I got confused about that. Oh yeah, nice choice, Word dominates ;)

Have you ever worked in a company - or in teamwork? As a student I used Open office all the time until I realized how bad it really was after having gotten a free copy of MS office.

Office 2010 for windows is undebatabely the best office program on the market. Then comes Iwork by Apple, which is badly developped and has lots of flaws (I had iwork 08). But OO is really the bottom end of crap.

open office 3.2 works great on ubuntu 10.04 perfect for bussiness if your bussiness need's something new and get's rid of all the fears a bussiness has for changeing to new software free. can make any computer fast , similuar to xp and is twice as fast as any microsft software to date on any computer. ubuntu 10.04 for the win!

there are both the best. However it depends if you want to pay money for something like that.If your like many people and have a brain you would go for the free option. I have open office and it gets the job done. I can do my school work just as easy as I can in Microsoft

office. If you have a very low budget for college equipment then open office is good for you. But if you are rich and have a big budget for college equipment then office is for you. Of course you can allways hack office,lol:P
