@Ben85paintball actually your only half right. the blade wasnt poisoned. but commodus stabbed him in the lung with a long knife. in of itself not FATAL if treated. but maximus was sent out into the arena right after beign stabbed. the wound grew and tore open., his lung likely collapsed, and he died.

It fell due to a crumbling economy and because of Constantine's desire to move Rome to istanbul turkey..constantinople. many scholars believe that the end of the roman empire wasn't until napoleon bonaparte defeated the romans in the 15th or 16th century
