im not american but i like the american pizza the best, but i dont like italian pizza that much. they have thin buttom and not even that much meat and stuff. :/ but im in love with italy though .
As I'm italian of 'course I'd say italian pizza is the best! But I think that everyone has its own judgement about their taste, especially when it comes to pizza!
About the origins of this mythological dish,it's to say that a previous varieties of pizza we now know as it is was cooked by the ancient romans and greeks too. Of course they didn't have tomatoes or potatoes, but, you know, pizza's toppings could be almost everything that comes to your mind...just enjoy it!xD
Technically pizza is ancient, using flatbread as a trencher and serving cheese on it? 1st century CE texts reference it, and in some instances a similar word. The modern concept of tomatoes, herbs, and cheese which would later evolve into tomato sauce started supposedly began with Pizza Margherita, which some other people already brought up.
Oh, one more detail,Pizza Hut is actually a poor example of American pizza. To get a good example you need to make it yourself or hit a real pizzeria.
@YogDodoth Not all garbage. Some stuff that I imagine people order would be garbage. The major problem with americanized version of pizza is that it has a large mount of calories per slice. The addition of multiple types of cheeses, meats and the use of the most fattening oils does not help. The dough itself is mostly craptastic ingredients full of calories. So remember, if you for some reason happen to eat pizza from most pizza places in the US. Eat as few slices as possible.
Pizza is one of the reasons why I love Italy so much... asides from the natural beauty, Tiziano Ferro and the history♥♥. And pizza is also one of the reasons why I love Chicago so much, but NY also has good pizza~
Legend has it that the pizza was created by a cook to save his life madea deal with the Queen Margaret that if he madea dish with all three colors of the Italian flag and the food was delicious would have saved his life. The fine of course won the challenge = D
..but ..have you EVER eaten the REAL pizza? in Italy? in Naples? you should try it! you may change your idea ..and also, the Italian pizza it's not only Pizza Margherita! there are many types of pizza: diavola, quattro stagioni, capricciosa, viennese, margherita doc. @simo92bd REAL pizza was made in New York city REAL pizza uses tomato sauce + cheese on a large circular crust with toppings. In Italy pizza can come in different shapes, normally dont have tomato sauce, more vegetables and olive oil and usually aren't as large. They are two different beasts and being an italian born living in america i must admit AMerican pizza is much more satisfying
I don't care what pizza is for you, in Italy you can find the true pizza, all the others aren't pizza, just imitations. Pizza is from Italy, even if you think that the american copy is better. I could think that a fiat 500 is better than a Ferrari, but the Ferrari is really better.

@MrRufinished Hmmm I read that a man made a pizza for some italian monarchs by the... XIV-XV century I'm not sure and that was "supòsed" to be the first pizza but i'm not sure XD
Your comment was interesting I didn't know that (although I knew what pita was)
@Lanakikuta I'm hungry now. lol. The type of pizza we eat today originated from Neopolitan cuisine of northern Italy. The monarch you mentioned was Margherita of Savoy. It was made in honor of her. Still, I think Chicago-style tastes better. :)
@MrRufinished Thanks for the info :) I haven't eaten American pizza yet... if Telepizza's pizza's are American, maybe yes XDD There's an amazing Italian restaurant on my town too. (Sorry bad English)
@MrRufinished you're right about the origins of the margherita pizza. It was made like that to resemble the colors of the Italian flag: the tomato sauce for the red, the mozzarella for the white, and the basil for the green. By the way Napoli is in southern Italy, not the northern :)
Yours is the story of neapolitan Pizza Margherita, but other kinds of pizza already existed
Anyway the story is:

Wow...I just watched this guy talk about pizza for 6+minutes. And I don't know why, but he's so entertaining! And when he ate them my mouth was watering.
I bet this guy can talk about stuff like soap and it will still be amusing!
I think that you have to visit Italy and eat a real italian pizza (not some pre-refrigerate abominions that sell to japanese tourists in some places as Florence). However, in Italy there are so many ancestors of actual pizza. Furthermore, the... thing over your pizza is not mozzarella cheese, trust me! XD
@GarthHerzog I have visited Italy several times in my life and I don't rate the pizza there very highly at all, best bet is to make it yourself from scratch.
@RealistReviewer Mh, it's true that it's really difficult to find a real good pizza. I don't know what places you visited, and maybe you were unlucky. However: yes, it's better to make it yourself from scratch. You're talking to a person that has a REAL pizza wood-fire oven in her home. XD
Well, in Italy we have many different kind of pizzas depending on what you put on it. Margherita is the original from Naples created, like PuNkYLoLLe said, for Queen Margherita. Naples' pizza is also different from Rome's pizza, which is thin and crispy. You really need to visit Italy and try them yourself ;)
Hi, Runny. I'm something of an "armchair" food historian, and according to my "research" on the subject, pizza probably originated with the Etruscans in ancient Greece, who made edible plates from dough and put various toppings on them. The italians later improved on the idea, using tomatoes, cheese and herbs (and sometimes meat or fish.)
Wow. I never knew watching someone eat and talk about food could be so interesting :P +1 subscriber. one of the reasons i decided to actually subscribe for the first time to someone was because you don't beg people to subscribe at the end of each of your videos! also your videos are very interesting!
you should google the pizza story if you want to know better!:P
btw it's italian,at least the kind of "official" one and if i remember correctly it's from late 1800 or early 1900, Margherita was the queen at that time and the first pizza was created in her honor by a cook from napoli! (the red of the tomatos, the white of the mozzarella, and the green of the basil
where used to recreate the colors of the reign of italy flag! >_<)... hope it was helpfull!keep making funny and yummy video!^_^
Not to offend anyone, but I gotta say, I've had both American delivery pizza and the some of the best pizza Italy has to offer. But I think I'd go with your typical delivery pizza. It's just zoo good.
the main difference between italian and american pizza is the amount of shit they put on the second one..altough the quality of the dough is essential in order to get a good pizza
I can't choose between American and Italian pizza. However, easily my favorite pizza is Barro's Pizza, which is only in Arizona supposedly. It's Chicago-style, at least that's what they stay, and the combination of the crust and sauce is what makes it my personal favorite. It even has a website. I'm actually rather boring... I just have pepperoni pizza and that's it. x-x
I'm pretty sure Italy had pizza first Runny, but the problem is you won't find a very good Italian pizza in Japan I think. Unless if you have an italian restaurant there. You will certainly like Italian more if it's a good one. America uses too many flavor enchancers etc...
Pizza is from italy, but alot of italian immigrants came to american in the 1920's and even farther back then that. so thats why there is so much pizza in america you can find some authentic italian pizza in america made by italians. just gota look for it. and your more likely to find it up north then down south.
I'm Italian and as you said that fake italian pizza you had is way far from the original one. You must try it here in Italy, I am sure you would adore it and forget the American one :) You're invited for a pizza! I will pay for ya :) ahahhah!! I love your videos and i must thank you coz..you make me smile with your semplicity. THanks a lot Runny!!!!
@2syrianhearts i love PIZZA. Honestly. i can't decide. Their are sometimes i want american style with 500 toppings but sometimes i want the simple napoli style pizza.
@2syrianhearts Correct me if I'm mistaken, but from what I know there's huge different types of pizza in Italy(depends on from which part of a country it comes from). Some of them are very thin with just the basic topping(like sauce and cheese), some have tones of stuff on them(something like they make in US)....
Pizza is not from either Italy or U.S,,,,, It's from New Yawk City! Just kidding.Full Moon in the Bronx(Aurthur Ave.) Grimaldis' In Brooklyn =very good
Runny, I love you when you eat! You should really come to italy, you'd definetively love italian pizza the way WE make it! And of course pizza is italian! What do you think when you say 'italy'? 'pizza, pasta & mafia!' ^___^
pizza is "italian", but nowdays doesn't exist the different from other kind of pizza. I'm italian and i like american and deep pizza too. The real different is the "contorno", what u eat while u are eating pizza, and supplì/mozzarelline/crocchette are very tasty and unique.
Anyway Naples Pizza is different from Rome Pizza and Genoa Pizza.
The exact origins are a little foggy, but Pizza as we know it is Italian and is about 200 years old (although there are records of it going back as far as Ancient Roman times). The Margherita is the oldest of form of Pizza as we know it.
i think pizza originated in Europe, just not sure where exactly...
I love pizza, in fact i just ate some, but the best pizza in the entire universe is Chicago Style deep dish pizza. It's different than the pizza you ate because it's much thicker and it's crispier. It's also better if you go to a place where they make it by hand instead of a franchise like dominos and pizza hut. Connie's, La Villa, and Rosati's here in Chicago are really good.
Started off with the greeks who made flat-bread(pita) and topped with oil, herbs, and cheese, the romans made something more similiar to a pizza a sheet of flour baked with honey, cheese and bay leaves. Then revolutionized into modern pizza in neopolitan cuisine (italian). Italian pizza usually has a light topping, little oil, herbs, couple slices of cheese, occasionally some slices of tomatoe.A pizza completely covered by a layer of sauceand thick layer of cheese, and lotstoppings, is american
ehi runnyrunny come in naples and try the real italian pizza.....only then you can talk.....but if you haven't try real italian pizza please......SHUT UP!!!
comin from an Italian... the italian pizza is not exactly the way our family makes our pizza. our traditional italian pizza for us is big thick crust tomato sauce with garlic wine and pepper salt and fresh basil...no cheese. and everything must be fresh. we do however add fresh mozzerella once and while cause cheese is good..
AHah dude seriously..u are the best. I never saw a guy enjoying pizza as u do. I can tell u..what u tried is not italian style (not mentioning the different ingredients and bakin style..as u did already). Even in Italy, pizza style varies a lot..so maybe u can take into consideration to come to Italy and try the various style (we have crusty thin, high dough, halfway etc.). To be purist : the real napolitan pizza is soft with the side a bit higher (so a sort of halfway between crusty andhigh).
there was this one royal chef and the royal famiy members wanted something different the king wanted cheese and the queen wanted onions and the princ wanted olives and the princess wanted bread so the chef decided to bring eerything togehther to now what is known as pizza but this is just one of the myths of course
This man loves his pizza. I can respect that. In America, we have many kinds of pizza. Runnyrunny999 was eating Japanese pizza made in a American style. In America, we have New York-style which is thin and greasy, Mass-style which is bready and saucey, Neapolitan-style which is thin and saucey, Chicago-style which is deep-dish, crispy, and meaty, some others exist too, but are not as popular. All types are pizza, and everyone has their personal definition and favorite. Pizza is yummy! ^o^
Pizza is of course Italian and this is historical fact (google it yourself too long to' expain it here). As an italian myself I'll say that the thin crust is the real pizza, what americans make the dough is all wrong, is just stuffed focaccia ( another italian thing). If you'll ever come to Italy and Genova particulary you'll taste the real thing. Unfortunately I couldnt taste pizza in US since I'm allergic to' flour and milk but THAT is not pizza. But I don't judge your taste at all. Thanks fo
@Ardiane1 You can't blame "the Americans" for our pizza. It was the Italian immigrants who brought it here after all. =P I have to agree with you, America created it's own style a long time ago, so it isn't exactly Italian. I will not get to go to Italy, so I will have to stick to my high-in-fat American pizza.
you can always just make your own pizza, use less processed ingredients, and keep the toppings healthy.
I live in america and love pizza, but its very bad for you, so I started making my own pizza/pizza dough, I'm still young and I'm inexperienced but it came out great and was very easy ^.^ I reccomend doing this sometime.
hi im from italy^^ and the american's pizza is more like a cake^^ the really good pizza is from italy try some good italin's pizza^^ gj whit ur cook recipe xD
you gotta travel the US for a very wide variety of different kinds of pizza. from the big, thin crust slices of New York City to the thick, deep, rich slices of Los Angeles.
I have a roommate who says is from Italian ancestry and when I said pizza was from Italy (was arguing over it with another roommate) I was told that was wrong that it WAS from America, by my supposedly Italian roomie, lol. I don't believe that bit about being Italian that much anymore XD
I thought it was obvious that the currently known version of pizza was made in Italy and brought by immigrants to America. I guess is not that obvious for everyone ^^U
I wish I could mail you a pizza. In St. Louis we have a pizza that is really different, the crust is very thin, and the sauce and cheese go up to the edge. They use a different kind of cheese that is gooey and not stringy because it's not mozzarella its a cheese called provel. It's really different but it's good.
The deep dish is a Chicago thing and the thin crust is a New York thing. Preference varies city to city in the United States. ;) We don't all eat deep dish!
Being from New York, I prefer styles like the margherita where the thin crust is crispy!
True Italian pizza is thin crust with a little cheese, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and herbs&spices (note the lack of Tomato sauce).
At least that's the way they served it the last time I was in Italy almost 20 years ago.
Americanized Pizza came later, but forms the image and result of what pizza is across most places in the world.
So it comes down to the concept of pizza, or pizza as we know it today.
Runny,
Try a pizza with a pesto base (instead of tomato sauce).
let us know what you think.

@amapola1703 The pizza in Northern Italy is the worst I have ever had, I could hardly believe it at the time.

@RealistReviewer why does people think Naples is in the northern Italy? It's like saying.. NY is in the west USA, lol

XD
GarthHerzog 4 months ago
@GarthHerzog I have visited Italy several times in my life and I don't rate the pizza there very highly at all, best bet is to make it yourself from scratch.
RealistReviewer 4 months ago

Hi Runny, i'm italian and as you said that isn't an original italian pizza and that isn't mozzarella o.o
Sherhazade87 4 months ago

I just have pepperoni pizza and that's it. x-x
Chaos7Theory 5 months ago
I'm pretty sure Italy had pizza first Runny, but the problem is you won't find a very good Italian pizza in Japan I think. Unless if you have an italian restaurant there. You will certainly like Italian more if it's a good one. America uses too many flavor enchancers etc...

So can you investigate for giving us a american delicius pizza´s recipe ? I think it has to be lots cheaper if you learn and make it yourself.

@2syrianhearts Correct me if I'm mistaken, but from what I know there's huge different types of pizza in Italy(depends on from which part of a country it comes from). Some of them are very thin with just the basic topping(like sauce and cheese), some have tones of stuff on them(something like they make in US)....

Napal Italy I believe is where it was first made; however, its evolved a lot since.
Used to be bread with cheese, meat, and tomatoes; they then started making the dough a lot different for it and that is when it took off, etc.

Italian pizza usually has a light topping, little oil, herbs, couple slices of cheese, occasionally some slices of tomatoe.A pizza completely covered by a layer of sauceand thick layer of cheese, and lotstoppings, is american

comin from an Italian... the italian pizza is not exactly the way our family makes our pizza. our traditional italian pizza for us is big thick crust tomato sauce with garlic wine and pepper salt and fresh basil...no cheese. and everything must be fresh. we do however add fresh mozzerella once and while cause cheese is good..
notouchi 8 months ago
AHah dude seriously..u are the best. I never saw a guy enjoying pizza as u do. I can tell u..what u tried is not italian style (not mentioning the different ingredients and bakin style..as u did already). Even in Italy, pizza style varies a lot..so maybe u can take into consideration to come to Italy and try the various style (we have crusty thin, high dough, halfway etc.). To be purist : the real napolitan pizza is soft with the side a bit higher (so a sort of halfway between crusty andhigh).

thePowerPlant 8 months ago
Pizza is of course Italian and this is historical fact (google it yourself too long to' expain it here). As an italian myself I'll say that the thin crust is the real pizza, what americans make the dough is all wrong, is just stuffed focaccia ( another italian thing). If you'll ever come to Italy and Genova particulary you'll taste the real thing. Unfortunately I couldnt taste pizza in US since I'm allergic to' flour and milk but THAT is not pizza. But I don't judge your taste at all. Thanks fo
Ardiane1 8 months ago
@Ardiane1 You can't blame "the Americans" for our pizza. It was the Italian immigrants who brought it here after all. =P I have to agree with you, America created it's own style a long time ago, so it isn't exactly Italian. I will not get to go to Italy, so I will have to stick to my high-in-fat American pizza.
RavenTwoFive 8 months ago
@RavenTwoFive
you can always just make your own pizza, use less processed ingredients, and keep the toppings healthy.
I live in america and love pizza, but its very bad for you, so I started making my own pizza/pizza dough, I'm still young and I'm inexperienced but it came out great and was very easy ^.^ I reccomend doing this sometime.
