I think of my great uncle Nick, who entered the war at age 18 in 1916 and was deployed to France, he survived but was a broken man and was forever haunted by the horrors of war and held an endless resentment against the Germans for their barbarity and cruelty. If the UK and USA let the french deal harshly with germany it would have been too weak to start WW2, on the other hand if the americans had had their way with it the terms would have been unacceptable to the french and brits. So that's how we ended up with one of history's biggest fuckups, there was just no easy solution

It is a bit rare even in Australia these days but you can get it on DVD. Devil's Arithmatic I think was the name of the episode or now chapter on the DVD.

I've been to the western front twice at Beaumont Hamel on the Somme.I have also been to the German cemetary in Mons.I have been to Arnhem and Nijmegen bridges. The Germans launched a very successful campaing in Africa and only the end of the war in Europe ended the German campaign. The British Indian Army moved into areas normally occupied by white soldiers during WW1 since the British Army was better equipped to fight in France than the British Indian Army.

Yes they fought well but most of it was luck; they had good German commanders; weapons from Germany and supplies. The British has old inexpereince (Ian Hammilton) and some useless commanders (Aylmer Hunter-Weston), poor knowledge of the terrain and forces being used on the Western Front and many more.

I think of my great uncle Nick, who entered the war at age 18 in 1916 and was deployed to France, he survived but was a broken man and was forever haunted by the horrors of war and held an endless resentment against the Germans for their barbarity and cruelty. These weren't Supermen, they were just ordinary blokes who valued freedom and democracy over tyranny and brutality, fellas who knew what needed to be done and they did it. Through their bravery and sacrifice they have become legends.

WW1 was more a natural desaster than a war , a slaughterhouse for all nations with no winner ,except the French they needed the war for revenge against germany because of his 1870/71 defeat . And his versailles treaty terms led to the arise of the Nazis in Germany and then a new War. @Fehnriss The treaty of Versaille wasn't a failure because the french were too harsh but because the british and especially the americans didn't want to be harsh to germany. If the UK and USA let the french deal harshly with germany it would have been too weak to start WW2, on the other hand if the americans had had their way with it the terms would have been unacceptable to the french and brits. So that's how we ended up with one of history's biggest fuckups, there was just no easy solution

It is a bit rare even in Australia these days but you can get it on DVD. Devil's Arithmatic I think was the name of the episode or now chapter on the DVD.

The campaign may have been a failure, the western allies may have withdrawn from the peninsula, but places like Lone Pine prove that the Turks (commanded by Col Mustapha Kemal) did not "kick [the Anzac's] butt really bad".

You say it did not need to happen. Wrong, was was inevitable. Read history about the geo-political situation in Europe in the years prior to 1914 when the shooting war began. Germany felt hemmed-in and threatened in all directions---Russia to the east, France to the west, and England across the BalticSea. I've been to the western front twice at Beaumont Hamel on the Somme.I have also been to the German cemetary in Mons.I have been to Arnhem and Nijmegen bridges. The Germans launched a very successful campaing in Africa and only the end of the war in Europe ended the German campaign. The British Indian Army moved into areas normally occupied by white soldiers during WW1 since the British Army was better equipped to fight in France than the British Indian Army.

I don't know how Turkish soldiers behaved towards captured enemy soldiers or towards civilians in conquered lands. But those words, coming from such a great man of Turkish History, are representative of a way to make war that has mostly vanished.

Yes they fought well but most of it was luck; they had good German commanders; weapons from Germany and supplies. The British has old inexpereince (Ian Hammilton) and some useless commanders (Aylmer Hunter-Weston), poor knowledge of the terrain and forces being used on the Western Front and many more.

The German commanders taught your commanders about leadership, training,etc; without it they would have been as useless as some of the British commanders. you do not know the full story. Look it up on books and on websites. It says it clearly on wikipedia. Mustafa Kemal was promoted to general by Von sanders himself.
You are far off in most views so i suggest you do more research before you open your mouth. I did this in college and have plenty of books to prove this.

in germany they say turks won battle because we helped them. but the truth is not like it. read historical book 'DİRİLİŞ' you will see how much von sanders was fool! he stationed 150000 troops in saros but allies attacked arıburnu and before the battle begins Mustafa Kemal said to sanders '' allies will attack to arıburnu'' but sanders didn't care him than allies attacked poorly defended arıburnu. what a fool general (sanders). do you know MY history better than me???

I didn't say von sanders was the leader; i said his expertise, skills and advice was given to the Turks in order to become better leaders. Read the book Gallipoli by L.A. Carlyon; this book focus on both sides of the war. It was up to the Turks to decided what to do in battle. Just because your Turkish it does not mean you will know everything about your country; this is the same with me.
