  • Hubby just got himself a boat with a Merlin in it...LOL... Now me... I know nothing and the sound doesn't do anything for me.... BUT for him the whole idea just... well you know. LOL

  • How much are Rolls Royce vise grips and where can I get them?!

  • its the same pictures over and over again

  • Why do you zoom in and out on pictures? They're just pictures.

  • I'm not a f-ing expert on g-dd-mn aero engines. Is it still OK for me to post here, you freaks?

  • whatever engines the germans built it didn't matter the british still kicked the shit out of them

  • Rolls Royce made engines for the Messerschmitt ME 109's in 1935...

    Then the Jumo series appeared.

Why don't we get to see a Mercedes Jumo inverted V12 running on a stand?

Oh, because the valves don't fall into the cylinders?

I want to see an inverted V12 running or disassembled with all the components.

I want to see the " high diving act".

    (Bugs Bunny fame)

  • I think you need to do some more research on your Aero Engine knowledge, No offence intended.

  • Explain why I should research my Aero Engine knowledge.

Rolls Royces may have been F-head design, and the Jumos were OHC designs.

But, we don't get to see the Jumo Mercedes valvetrain.

Show me a website that shows a blow-up of a Jumo Mercedes V-12 engine.

They show panzer tanks and British tanks.

Why the censorship with the Inverted V-12's?Your 'offence intended' remark is out of context. Rolls or Mercedes, when crashed at 400 mph look similar.

  • You seem confused, I bet you are having problems finding information on Jumo mercedes, There is no such thing. Here are some search keywords for you. Junkers Jumo 211. Daimler Benz 601. Both are inverted V12 German aircraft engines from WW2, Good luck with your research.

  • Ok, I read from a website that 'Mercedes' made the Jumo V-12's. Not my mistake, if it is a mistake. I just think that firing a cannon round through a crankshaft is quite an ingenious thing.

Besides getting a book, I have found no exploded diagrams of the Jumo V-12's.

That simple. It should be on YouTube.

My question is: Why isn't it ?

    Maybe Wikipedia will be helpful.

  • Wikipedia has some good pictures of the Jumo engine. On the Daimler benz engine in the ME 109 the cannon fires through the center of the propeller hub which is not the center line of the crankshaft, There is a reduction gear unit on the front of the engine and the cannon fits behind the unit going through the propeller. JumoV12s are rare, running ones are more than rare, probably why you cant find on you tube

  • TiT the cannon did not fire through the crank shaft (it would have to be hollow, then it would snap! wouldn't it?) It fired through the spinner. You are mixing things up with the BMW engines in 109s being mounted upside down in the bay, if they misfired (which they did) they blew their valves out. You gotthis so wrong your arrogance must be bleeding out your nose!

  • @dogsparents

sorry matey don't you mean the damilar benz engines in the me 109??

the bmw 801 power the focke wulf fw190

  • @NukeAChav666 I think you mean Bf 109

  • Absolute tit, every offence intended!

  • TIT!

  • Let´s just call it Rover Meteor. 27 liters.

Has nothing to do with Merlin

  • Oh goody!!! A closeup of the hose clamps. Does this photographer have a fixation on hose clamps?

  • you can never replace the internal combustion engine

  • What? the British had no hotrod tankers that modded their Meteor with a Merlin supercharger?

    ;)

  • No point -- they ran on 50 octane pool petrol in the tanks -- they'd have just detonated themselves to bits with the S/C and no avgas.

Before you ask, the airforce (or rather, the luftwaffe) had a big say in where all of the high octane stuff went.

  • what the hell are you talking about the german Luftwaffe for when talking about a British built Rolls Royce used by the RAF?

  • The Brits were in a stouch with the Germans arounf that time (you might've read about it). Since the Luftwaffe has this habit of bombing the stuffing out of British cities, the Brits decided that high-octane petrol was better used in faster and more powerful fighters and interceptors than in tanks. If the Luftwaffe were to go away, the brits would've had a surplus of avgas and we may have seen Merlin tanks. Hence, the Luftwaffe was pivotal in there being no supercharged Meteors in tanks.

  • but whats the point of running an engine if youre not gonna use it? i see people sticking them in stands, but only one video of one being put to use.

  • You should have heard them in the Thunderboats..specifically The Miss Budweiser

  • its not from the meteo plane the Meteor Engine s the Merlin engine with no Super charget and maid out of heavier metals for tanks.

  • Love it !!!!

  • i thought the meteor was jet powered

  • i fitted one to a sewing machine !

  • Good Stuff

  • lmmfao Creative, STFU means "shut the fuck up", its not an engine

  • If you drive an import, you describe the condition of the internal parts as "Shit That's Fucked Up"

  • I'm sure the Japanese can make a better one.

  • No, they can't. stfu.

  • I've never heard of the STFU, was it German ?,,,I think Suzuki coppied this Merlin.

  • lol

  • Suzuki Thermodynamic Flux Unit. Patented mechanism (leased to all Japanese manufacturers)which allows thier motorcycles to be cheap, fast and reliable. Western factories traditionally manage only two of these targets, at best.

  • Hmmmm, never heard of it, sounds more like a heat-radiator concept, japanese cycles are the way they are because of good alloys & lightweight materials, simplified engine concepts.

  • Naw you idiot, japanese coppied everything in this frame of time (1930s-1940s).

  • Today yes ! no problem.

  • well thats ok, I think WW2 is all over now.

  • I'm sure they could, but it would end up sounding like a sewing machine. and where's the fun in that!

  • Ok, it's too bad it's not a video, but the sound is better than most other videos. Great footage though... vvVVRRRRRghhhhhhptptp.... vvVVRRRRRghhhhhhptptpt... music to a pilot's ears!

  • its not a vid its a slideshow dimwit

  • Kids these days, someone puts nice soundtrack of engine and few describing pictures and all kids do is moan. Why don't you find that spine of yours and pull it straight.

Nice stuff you posted here, thx. Love that sound of Merlin.

  • The Meteor engines were built by Rover.

They were fitted to many tanks.

  • Next time bring a ~video~ camera with you...

  • If there ever will be a next time. I just got a camera and my iPod this time.

  • don't listen to him. do your thing.

  • So close your eyes and listen ...

  • The pictures is not the important part of this video, it is the fantastic soundtrack!

  • In the background you heard a racy motorcycle start up and drive away.

  • I love the molegrips.! Was that a 350 Lc with Microns i heard in the background.?
