Just thought i'd point out that these two-tones are NOT German or French....they are made by FIAMM....which is Italian. The French ones sound quiet and electronic and the German MartinsHorn is much MUCH louder! the Martinshorn is a proper siren and for al you americans slagging off the British/German/European sirens....fuck the Q...it sounds like a cat dying a slow painful death.

Why does the LAFD shut the lights and siren off when they enter the freeway, then re-activate the response when they exit the freeway? Doesnt make sense to me during such a major incident.

@cliffordforcillo im most states and citys, truckes are governed to a speed that is usually lessthen the poisted speed limit, vehicle will just pass. when i am responing on I75 and have a ways to go, i turn them off like sop's state untill i approach the scene

Just out of curiosity, was the driver newer? Maybe it was just his annoyance at the ringing, but towards the end the Battalion Chief said, "Just worry about driving." Which made me think, maybe he was new and wanted to help, or maybe he wasn't used to driving.

The Hi-Lo horns are not Martin Horns. They are FIAMM model MC/2FI + TA/2BL. LAFD has used them since about 1972. LACoFD also uses Hi-Lo horns on squads.

Theres a reason the martinshorn's are so effective, because theyre loud, it attracts attention easily, theres a vid of a firetruck in Edinburgh with a 2tone followed by a truck with conventional sirens (it shows how loud the 2tones are!)

No. They are ladder pipes, and are controlled manually. Once they are set to wherever they need to be, then the firefighter sometimes leaves it, but most of the time they will stay.

KCFD began using those Timberwolf sirens. My cat can make a better siren then those things can. Wish Federal would come back with the C-5 or model 28 sirens.

copper: Did KC get rid of those timberwolfs? There is a company called Eagle siren, from their website their siren sounds like it might be decent. It is 6" diameter, the timberwolf is 5".

B&M sirens have refurbed their sirens and can be purchased. B&M was quite popular in California before the electronics came out.

They have some trucks with the Timberwolf on them. Mostly they have Federal Q's. Yeah I'v heard the Code 3 Eagle, sounds nice. B&M still makes "The Growler" and I see some departments still use them.....Wish they make one for behind the grill of unmarked PD cars.
