  • I think these women are wrong. ASians are seen as beautiful in the western world and have a lot of traits that white women and men envy such as smooth haiir that is thick. Smaller and thinnner body types, they age well, they have beautiful skin. And its not only asian women who are pressured to stay thin, its ALL women

  • i was dieting and exercising down to a healthy size 6, my doctor said i was fat, and then my stepmom said i should be a size 4. i gave up and decided to be myself, even though it hurts to hear comments from girls skinnier than me. I don't want to be unhappy my whole life, straining my mental health for something that won't last anyway. ya know?

  • gud

  • Having Asian parents tell you your fat constantly is hard to deal with......I would know.......it's like they want us to fall in to that same mold of all the other Asian girls!! I just want to yell "this is me!!!!! I don't give a f*** about how you think I should be!!!"

  • My (Asian) parents always tell me I'm too fat. And I kinda agree...because even if I'm not "fat" by American standards, I'm definitely not as skinny as those kpop idols.

  • @PINKPOLKADOTS97 ever occur that those girls are extremely thin? I doubt it's healthy and anyone would be capable of enduring that shape without the money to pay.

  • i feel the "Larger Frame" part, i was so self concious about that, but not anymore <3

  • except tila tequila i had no idea there were asian people in the US

  • @garamri lol i get that too im korean and whie but im reaaaaaly pale skined i look more white but got the asian bone stucture and ppl ask if im mexican mabey its cuz im in south texas idk

  • anooying

  • Fitting the body image is like getting tip from volunteering. You volunteer because you want to, you’re happy to volunteer. The experience is what really matters, if you get tip it’s only a plus. From the beginning of the video I was in awe. I disliked the comments saying she’s hot because hot to me is really degrading. In my eyes Keely is just unbelievably beautiful, pretty much the best looking person I’ve seen on youtube.

  • It‘s hard to love yourself if you dread the way you look, and it’s hard for people to love you if you don’t love yourself. Not being happy because of the way you look is like not being happy because you don’t have a boyfriend/girlfriend. Whether you think you look good or not you should be happy with yourself, the same way you should be happy with yourself whether you are taken or not.

  • Some people may even find the fact that you don’t fit the body image to be attractive Whether you fit the body image or not everyone should feel special because each person is unique. Physical appearance is only one of the many aspects of beauty. Appearance can create initial attraction but without good values, personality and character it would be very difficult to be loved for the right reasons. We should never dread who we are, especially the way we look.

  • Even if they're twins, you can tell them apart. Beauty is in the eye and mind of the beholder. The way we view ourselves can be completely different from someone else’s views. If we want to change the way we look to please the majority of society who prefer the “body image”, we most likely will never be happy because we can’t please every single person. If your appearance does not match the ‘body image’, you can consider yourself rare/special.

  • They may wish that they had a different eye color or someone else’s curves. No one looks in the mirror for the first time and think to themselves “I look good”. Some of the “best looking people” may not feel good about their appearance until they are always complimented. Even then they may not agree since it’s natural to compare ourselves to others and think we don’t look good. Everyone should be content with how they look, no two individuals look exactly the same.

  • Although I didn't like the girl, I was displeased with the comment. But at the same time it was nice to realize that if she really liked me, my height would not have mattered because she should like me for who I am. If people don’t like my appearance that’s not going to break my confidence because everyone has different opinions. You can look at someone and think they’re the ugliest person while someone can think the opposite. No matter how nice someone looks, that doesn’t mean they’re content.

  • I'm full Japanese, born and raised in Hawaii. I used to feel really uncomfortable about my height. One time my friend told me that his twin sister made a comment about me saying "He's really cute, but if only he were taller.." Often times we are shut down just because of appearance or things we don’t have control of such as prejudice and stereotype. As people do that we tend to become demoralized and end up cutting ourselves short or cutting ourselves literally (possibly).

  • Obviously their ads are designed to make girls believe that they are not attractive enough. If they buy this cosmetic or this product, it will make you look like the supermodel in the ad. It's just human nature to covet what we don't have; the grass is greener on the other side. I have brown eyes and I wished I could have blue eyes like my brother. When I was 5 I used to tape my eyelids so that they'd look more Asian, and I remember WISHING I could have almond shaped eyes.

  • I believe that Asians in general are beautiful women, and the guys are good looking guys as well.

  • I'm half chinese, half hispanic and I looooooove my curves. Girls in China are too thin to be honest. I do agree that buying clothes in Asia is hard because I'm usually a XS or S, and the clothes I need to get have to be M or L.

  • uhso are there actually some nice guys who wanna chat with mi

  • @denshaotoko89 well said.

  • the half korean girl is so thin!

i dont understand why her parents thought she wasn't thin enough...

  • as i see it, it really comes down to the way developing nations tend to associate progress with Westernization.

as political, business, and social leaders rub shoulders with their Western counterparts to get in on their financial success, so does Western culture gain increasing influence on global culture.

this includes everything from punk and rap, to Christianity, to beauty standards.

In Japan and India alike, the media tends to favor women with physical traits more similar to white women.

  • man, the plight of being a wealthy asian american attending columbia university

(i realize these issues are real and should be addressed, but having had a relatively privileged upbringing and attended a good college myself always found it sorta funny how serious a lot of people take their issues when the majority of people in the nation/world struggle with far more "serious" issues like crushing debt, poverty, and/or unaffordable healthcare)

  • I don't believe in biasing of beauty at all. I think that beauty is diverse and comes in many forms, cultures and looks. And I think that people that people who favor "white beauty" are just like white supremacists on a superficial level. And white supremacy blows.. I know how they feel. I wasn't born to be thin so I used to contemplate bulemia and tried anorexia because exercise and diet didn't work. Having a positive self image is key, and I really feel that almost everyone deserves that.

  • I really like the videos.

I just wish the sound quality was better. Maybe shoot on a different location or using better microphones would help.

    Thanks for posting.

  • 5/5

  • Oh how I love explosions in the sky....

  • another problem is when you described your preference for Asian American women, you focused entirely on the stereotypical physical attributes that has been tantamount to the kind of objectifying language of the long history of men who fetishize Asian American women. If you truly believe you don't have a fetish, then I would reevaluate how you express yourself because you come across as very objectifying.

  • I actually wrote that for you guys to feel good about yourselves instead of the complaining that i hear in this video. Be yourself and enjoy yourself insted of being who someone else wants you to be. Its not a fetish. Southeast Asia has alot of smart, funny, caring and loving skinny Asian females and if i thats who i choose to be with then thats who im going to be with and not some Asians who were either born here or either brought here and think they have to be like females around them.

  • If your aim was to make them feel better then you could have done a far better job instead of saying how you "dislike" them for speaking out against a culture that constantly pressures young teenagers to abide by a standard of beauty. In fact, they are being most themselves by being outspoken and not some quiet, passive stereotype of what people perceive most Asian American women to be.

  • We think you're either an internet troll looking for attention or that you are actually a real person who didn't understand the video, enjoys objectifying women, and that you relish in your fetish because you are unsuccessful with women.

We hope for your sake and self-esteem that it is the former.

  • Im a black guy and have only dated Asian women..i dislike asians that are here and feel they have to be tanned just because they are in the West. just give me a pale asian that is 100 lbs, with a small butt, small chest preferably A cup, with small feet and im happy because im dealing with anyone that strives to be what the West wants if she is pale. What do you guys think?

  • im chinese with a jamaican grand dad. i look phili cuz im dark and have some defined features that asians generally dont have. but chinese people prefer to look pale than dark. its so hard to try to fit in that way. im small to the canadian family i have but my family in hongkong think im big. its so confusing and its so stressing. i think the hardest part is the eyes. the deepset eyes that asian would die for. but none the less we are beautiful. we all are no matter race or age

  • hate to brust your bubbble im not on anybody side but the most ppl on welfare is single white women it the truth so plz dont say that

  • Girl in grey jumper, you are asian beauty epitomized

  • esther was her name

  • 4.41, very beautiful :)

And I think that none of them is ugly. Everyone has it's own personal look.

  • 3:19 - hottest girl I've ever seen but still mad stressed about her looks lol

  • Ok If all These ASIAN girls have all these pressure of their looks being bad, then Y do So many Guys like them expecially WHITE MALE. I've seen 5'0 Asian girl with like 6'0 white dude.

  • I know this probably has nothing 2 do with pretty much anything, but I love asian people, what a gorgeous race of humans. African Americans as well... always have.

  • I just feel like no matter how much people try to make themselves feel good and stuff, the standards will not change, thin is considered beautiful, and as much as I hate to see it I think that being thin is beautiful. Its sad to see how hard girls work to be SUPER skinny, ESPECIALLY asians and I'm one of those girls who eats really little and does lots of exercise to stay really skinny. I lived in Japan most my life and I am 160 cm tall and 43 kg.

  • Hey - I'm an older white guy and - all I can say is - all of the people in this video look fine to me. The young women are beautiful and the young men are handsome. To all young Asian people: Please don't think that there is anything wrong with how God made you. Asian eyes are beautiful, not ugly. I think they're more beautiful than Caucasian eyes. :)

  • @bapyou aw thats so sweet u made me tear up

  • yawn

  • Asian women mostly look HOT. Chinese, Korean, Filipina, etc. are also included in my Asian definition. On Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipina, etc., their nose looks good. Nothing wrong with it at all. I like their facial characteristics. hehehe..

  • i'm 1/8 caucasian, 3/8 filipino and half korean

  • well done :)

i'm a ballet dancer and i see so many beautiful asian women starving themselves needlessly...

  • I love this. I thought I was alone being an asian-american and not being thin. My family has pressured me to be "thin".

Then watching this I know I'm not alone.

I'm almost on the verge to tears. My family is so traditional with everything. And they wonder why I'm chubbier then I should be.

I love the people who made this.

  • what's the song in the background called again?

  • :p I feel the same.

    I'm Filipino. Living in Canada..

People's first idea of me, is that I'm native American.

People put you down enough you start to believe it. The bad stuff is easier to believe.

  • you might get AIDS or herpies

    be careful:)

  • Interesting vid. I empathize with them. All the 'popular' asian kids in my middle school all conformed to the asian ideal of beauty.

  • Just stumbled across this and I suppose there are internal struggles within every group which aren't readily obvious to the outside observer. Plus EVERY woman has dealt with body image issues. In any case,I'm a black female and I think Asian women are too cute (no homo).Shouldn't feel ashamed of your natural features,i.e., Asian eyes. Ur fine as you are.And it's best to ignore the media. The beauty/entertainment industry profit from making women feel like sh*t for looking the way they look...

  • i am half chinese and half white, and i really like this video(:

  • This is a really wonderful video. I'm asian american and it's sometimes really hard to handle all the pressures of today's ideal "beauty." It's great to know others are facing the same things as me. Thanks!

  • i am half chinese and half white... and one time a venezuelan woman tried to teach me how to wear eye makeup so my eyes would look "less asian"

what's wrong with asian eyes... i was so pissed.

  • The half Chinese half Pinay is a hottie.

  • Dude that half Korean is hot.

  • Blah, blah, blah. Same old crap. At least Westerners find Asians attractive. Magazines and advertisements are always going to present the ideals of every ethnicity including white. How many of these Asian chicks on this video exclusively date White boys? Hmmm....

  • all asian women are so so beautiful... that is from the heart.

  • amera786- just a note, chinky is generally a racist term :(

  • yeah i dont think ur racist, more u just diddnt know that chicky is a racist term so in the future dont say chinky

  • its funny where i live (vancouver) asian girls are considered much hotter/more attractive/cuter than white girls......leads to a lot of resentment from white girls ahah.

ive never been in another city like this.....

  • American ("Westernized") Beauty=Externalized pressures that that subconsciously, subliminally communicates "genetic inferiority" to east-far east peoples that they are not attractive or beautiful in their own distinct ways. In a land that purposely ostracizes eastern perceptions of beauty, it isn't a wonder that it leaves a lot of people wanting to fit an unreal static-image of what has been popularly portrayed as "attractive".

  • I am very thankful for this video because Im 26 female who is 1/2 japanese and 1/2 cocasin and I sure don't look like those skinny Japanese girls! lol Im 5'2 / 120ib and my family in Japan and here in America thinks I should lose weight...so I've been struggling with self image...I feel better to know that there are people like me out there! Thank you again for the video!

  • Here's the thing, these ideals are pushed upon everyone. Advertising preys on the insecurities of everyone to sell product. There's nothing wrong with being in the best physical condition you can be in, but you and I will never look like a model. That's OK.

  • this is great

  • I found this VERY refreshing! I am 1/4 german and the furthest thing from asian you can get. I work with people from China and I often hear from them about my scars or wieght. I say: I will never measure up to standards because I am genetically different! So, I couldn't possibly imagine what it is like for an asian to go through this- until now. It is so refreshing to see that these individuals do not measure up to certain standards, and they refuse to sacrifice their health to do so.

  • People with the biggest eyes are people of African descent,so why is having big eyes a European thing...Get some dame self-confidence people.

  • well actually i wanna be taller to be less beatable

and thats the only thing ill change bout maself

  • Actually, the correct term is Asian, not Oriental. The 'Orient' was coined by Europeans to describe Asia.

  • I just want to say to all the women on this movie...You are all very beautiful. I only wish I could look like you.

  • OsDeus7, sad to see there still are idiots like you who continue calling people 'Oriental!' It's an adjective associated with things. The correct term is 'Asian.' Get on your keyboard and type 'Asian' 100,000 times until your pea-sized brain gets use to it!!!

  • people like to tease each other... don't worry about it... just don't take it to heart... just keep in mind that you are beautiful and alive that is all that matters... if they can't accept who you are... walk away and find someone else... maaan i was looking for sexy asians and i stumbled on this... ROFL...

  • It's sad how teens of all races are facing pressure, espically when it comes from their family.

The percentage of parents being able to accept differences of all kinds is very, very, very, very small. :(

  • rm of american movie...

  • They are beautiful.

I'm actually white (both my parents being white) but people have always said I look mixed race or 'foreign'. Does it matter what race you are or what country anyone is from?

    No.

Be happy with yourself. Don't be what someone else wants you to be.

  • What's the name of the song?

  • great video!

  • screw all cultural pressure to look "fine". True beauty is being comfortable with yourself.

  • Great job putting this together! "Hapa" means half and is usually used to describe people who are of mixed ancestry, specifically, Japanese (or East Asian) and white.

  • thanks for making this video. i can't say it changes the negative way i constantly see myself and compare myself to other asian girls to try and be perfect..but at least i know im not alone in this :)..and yay this is why i am joining AAA.

  • Wow. Some people just don't get this video at all. *to the people who don;t get it* It's about stereotypes and how the media plays it out! Hellllooooo.

*to csohosun* Anyways this is an awesome video you put together and really true but I think every ethnic group faces the same dilemma when it comes to stereotypes particularly when it comes to society's ideals of beauty. It's nice to see it from an Asian point-of-view though.

  • yeah you're right! Even the standard of beauty in America, white women, struggle to achieve their own cultural image but with consequences.

  • Thanks for making this.

  • you are disgusting

  • wow that hapa looks like Leoh Dizon

  • I've heard that word a lot "hapa"

    what does it mean?

    o.o

  • that half korean girl, half the things she was saying was directed to herself. she's got the korean blood but boy some other asians must kill to have her western look

  • What bugged me was there was one Indian girl...HEllo! Second largest pop. in the world. Don't we have a say?

  • I am an African American yet I noticed the same thing.....

  • Wow. This Documentry was great. I really enjoyed it, and like the previous person I think that someone should do a Latina version. Thanks for posting this:)

  • Nice video, try doing something like this with Hispanics, Which would be very interesting because we endure much of the same discrimination even if our appearances have no similarities.

  • ... The reason why asians are shown with black hair is because we do have black hair ... Holy fuck get over it...

  • are you an asian american female?

  • Thanks for your work on this doc and this important issue.

  • nice doc

  • yes 2 Indian PPL!

  • Very Intresting! but asian gurls are in style now a days -_^

  • wow

    this video

i know this might sound weird

    but it made me cry

    because its so true.

it's so difficult to be an Asian-American girl especially if you dont have that typical tiny asian body frame.

    ilovedthis.

  • this is cool!! not ike the other junk u see but...
