@hoyoung1996 u are so right. roddick would probably beat all amateurs but vs really tough opponents he has no chance. did he ever won a match vs federer???
so I am thinking about switching to a one handed backhand. The main reason is that my two hander absolutely sucks. I have no consistency or pace with it. Most of the time it goes into the net. If I do get it over, it is either weak or out. I've been trying to improve it for a while now, and it seems to not go anywhere. Getting frustrated, I was thinking if I should make a switch and try to see if I can hit a one hander better. What do you think I should try to do? Thanks
Hey jishkid... Roddick is the 5th best player in the world. You know what that means? That only 4 people are better than him. He could beat you 6-0,6-0 hitting only backhands.
@andyfan69201 Actually It doesn't mean that only 4 people are 'better' than him. It means he's (was) currently seeded 4th ranking out of the other players that don't get knocked out. This is determined on how many points in tournaments he gains.
All or most of the international (maybe even national) players lose and win against each other all the time. It has nothing to do with swing clarity, style or in this case, eliteness in tennis technique.

If you're a tennis teacher for YouTube watchers, you should have the capability to demonstrate with both left and RIGHT hand as well. I was teaching my sister, also a lefty, and I was able to do it with my left hand. A little difficult, but she got it. So you should be able to do that also since you might even be a professional.
i love how people make comments like "roddick's back hand sucks" or say he shouldn't be used as an example when teaching a backhand. i'd like to see a video of these people's backhands. i don't know you, but i bet you haven't made millions of dollars playing tennis. i also like the ones that say all he has is a serve. if you have any brains you would see he can trade groundies with the best players in the world. holla.
No Roddick`s Backhand aren`t a constant sometimes it is "hyperactive" out of swing. Means it comes to fast and short. Other days he follow it forward into court ala Connors
we ara not talking here about my backhand.what i meant was that andy´s backhand is probably his worst stroke and there is many players in top 20 which can be used as example.
his backswing is to short, shoulders to stiff and he is accelerating the racket just with his arms.you maybe noticed that against him everybody plays much more in his backhand ,mixing deep topspins and shorter slices.
I agree however using roddick as an example is fine to get the coaches points accross which were pivot and shoulder turn roddick does both of these things on his backhand therefore making it a good example.
Roddick sucks

I ant beleive you used Roddicks backhand as an example, ok yes he has shoulder rotation, but it is not world class, far from it.

Great instruction, so vital to load your weight on the back foot before weight-transfer onto front foot.
Also the bending of the knees gives more of a coiling up of the spring, before releasing into shot.
My favourite single-handed topspin backhands are Roger Federer, Richard Gasquet, and Justine Henin.

They should have used either Williams sister or Nalbandian for the backhand example, not Roddick.

Safin woulda been my choice
