It was also very unusual in classic Doctor Who to have an Earth character who wasn't middle class/spoke in BBC English, so Ben is a real exception there. Aside from him only Ace springs to mind.
yeah but look at the piece of crap they might be trying to pair the Doctor with. River song. Yuck. What a puke. She is creepy, obnoxious and I don't care what her secret is. She actually threatened to kill a man just for some info which makes her a psychotic. moffat does not know who to create good characters. They are boring. I think Ben and Polly were vastly superior to Amy and Rory. too bad they can't make a comeback. Leave it to Phil Ford to come up with boring stories for the companions.
Dodo was a substiute grandaughter for William Hartnell and since he was leaving they wanted two suitable companions for Patrick Troughton. But they weren't just suitable - they were bloody fantastic and I'll never understand why the actors didn't become major movie stars.
Jenny from Dalek Invasion of Earth was meant to replace Susan but they decided on a teenager instead of a grown woman. Vicki was written out because they wanted a grown woman for Daleks Master Plan. Katarina, Bret Vyon and Sara Kingdom weren't written to survive Daleks Master Plan. Ann Chaplet from The Massacare was considered for the new companion but they decided on a contemporary possible descendant instead (Dodo) and only really gave her four adventures. Unstable times for companions :-)
Short, but an effective look at the companions who were present for the most crucial moment of the Doctor's life as he regenerated for the first time; nice job.
I think they were younger replacements for Ian and Barbara to attract younger viewers. I think this because I think Ian and Barbara had some chemistry as well.
The season that's highest on my wish list is the missing one with the Second Doctor, Ben, Polly and Jamie just because I think it would have the best character dynamics. This is great. Thank you.
All I've seen of Ben and Polly is the war machines and the Power of the Daleks audio, though, I suppose there really isn't much Ben and Polly for anyone to see. Which is a shame. Great vid.
The best companions, i hope they animate their missing episodes their ownly complete story is the war machines, both Anneke and Micheal, along with Debborah Watling suffered the worst of the junking!
There are only 4 surviving episodes of their time with Pat troughton. That's very very sad.

I would guess they are underappreciated as so many of their episodes don't exist anymore so hardly any of us have had exposure to them!

They did wind up together! Apparently they run an orphanage in India.

According to Wikipedia, Polly was a replacement for Dodo, who wasn't "swinging" enough or something. Same sort of thinking that got us Peri.
Not meant to put down Ben and Polly, but I do not think getting rid of Dodo was one of the show's finest moments.

Love me some Polly! Very cool 60's 'IT' girl! PLUS, she and Ben had great chemistry.

I reckon the new doctor should meet them again before he regenerates would be sweet for him to die with someone he knew.

Did Ben and Polly fall in love?

Sorry, I forgot to add: great video, just like all your others. :)

It's never shown in the series that they fall in love, but it is sort of implied. There's definitely an attraction and they left together.
