Nice Tutorial! Personally I enjoyed the ES2 sound the most of the three, but of course it is mostly just a matter of finetuning etc on any of the snyths to get it to sound just like you want. I am quite inspired by Vangelis and make some music myself. if you want you can listen here watch?v=xO0y76A9HYk . Anyway, thanks again :-)
Awesome tutorial. Very straight to the point and informative. I like the fact that you can apply the same sound programming procedure into any VST synth that would have at least 2 oscillators. I wish though you could produce a separate video for CS-80 sound. Is there any way to enlarge the size of the GUI of the CS-80 (without changing the monitor's resolution)? Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this info. I'm pretty impressed about that EOS reverb. Gotta have it. ;) Cheers!
@fredtrace Thanks for the comments. It is not a preset, I just followed the same procedure as for the others synths but had it created already to save time for the video. If you follow the settings I have you should be able to get there quite easily. If I have time I will get a video up of just the CS-80 sound...
@cookiegreenwood I read on Wikipedia that garageband is able to use third-party plugins that adhere to the Audio Units protocol so you should be able to install some synths that have greater control than the limits on the bundled instruments?
I haven't used garageband all that much but I would try to download a few freeware plugins and see whether they are available for you to use. It really doesn't matter which synth you use as long as you can change waveform and oscillator tuning...
@threecirclesaudio You can. If you have installed the plugins you should be able to! I opened GarageBand and my plugins such a sylenth1, massive work fine like they would in logic! But there were no logic synths like the es1/es2 there just for logic.
As a Logic novice I just stumbled across this video while browsing and wanted to say I thought your explanation was really good - what a fantastic sound from (what looked like) relatively straightforward tweeking ... thanks again
It doesn't really matter what synth you use. The important thing to get the rich sound is to have 2 Sawtooth waveforms that are slightly out of sync with each other to get that fat, phasey sound. You should definitely be able to get there with a Virus...
Also important is the filter envelope & reverb algorithm.
ES2 is one of the stock synths from Logic, the other two are Arturia CS-80V and reFX's Vanguard (both 3rd party).
Forgot to mention, you say you have a Powercore so you should have access to the Platinumverb plugin I mention in the video with the "Deep Space" preset....
@email4arthur yea, to answer your question it will, however there is Logic Pro9 express which wont do as much. I suggest if you're going to start learning production then to get into protools just because it is the industry standard. However I own a Mac and run Logic on it and i find it very user friendly.
Cheers for the tutorial. Them deep sounds are so mean.

Hello.
Great post. But I have a small question. Where did you find the preset you're using on the CS80V ?
Many thanks

Hello, great video. Wondering if you have any thoughts on attempting to do this in GarageBand rather than Logic. Cheers

The signature sounds of Vangelis are stellar.
Your tweaking demo is solid!
I am new to the whole synth thing.
For starters, I purchased both used: Access Virus C and Blofled.
I also have a TC PowerCore Kompakt with Fabrik C and R.
Do you by any chance know how I could emulate those sounds with these instruments?
Also, I am on the fence between Pro Tools and Logic.
If I get LP9, will it come standard with the plug-ins that you demoed with?
