Read the book @cheesemuncher - Only Death Is Real: An Illustrated History of Hellhammer and Early Celtic Frost 1981-1985. Tom states Venom as one of the bands that inspired them.. idiot.
@bersk8board is a metal genre that comes from Thrash and Death metal, consist in the heaviest music ever,, the heaviest and (in the most of the times) fastest gutar riffs and drums blast,,,it's also known for the everlasting use of the growling voice,, the most of the lyrics are about death, war, anti-religion, and satan... nowdays, the black metal music includes sintetizer (what makes it a little more melodi,,,pure shit in my opinion)....

@SharinganMan I'd say Black Sabbath's first 2 albums were more influential. Not taking anything from Venom - they're obviously a hugely important band. But, Sabbath planted the seeds of heavy metal, and watered them until they sprouted. Even the seeds of thrash ("Paranoid" and the bridge in "War Pigs") and doom metal (the song "Black Sabbath" & "Electric Funeral") are there. Death metal not so much. I'd give that credit to Venom, Possessed, and the brilliant Chuck Schuldiner.
Venom are the godfathers of speed, death, thrash metal. They were doing shit in the 70's no one else was. Motorhead was there too, but not like Venom. Lemmy is still god. God bless Cronos.
@johnydafox "Venom are an English heavy metal band[1] that formed in 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne." "Venom's second album proved influential enough that its title was used as the name of an extreme metal subgenre: black metal." This is from Wikipedia, which I don't entirely trust. My point was Venom goes back a lot farther than most people think and had a huge influence.
But Black Sabbath were a form of blues/rock when they first came out with there self titled first album, Heavy Metal was not a term used back in the early 70s, there only classified as Heavy Metal these days cause that term has been out for a number of years.

@jesusmurderer01 Yeah they were. You're still thinking of the modern day standard as Black Metal, Guttural Vocals and drop B tuning. Don't do that, it's like Old School Death Metal, it was nothing more but Growling vocals to Thrash Metal Tracks like Obituary, Entombed etc. Venom showed the world a thrash like sound that influenced satanism through the lyrics which was Black Metal BACK THEN. The sound may have changed over the years but the message remains the same.
i prefer this song above the rest on this album.why ??? just listen to the voice..... then come the lyrics....so typical cronos only BETTER !!!!than ever
@420dimebag You know nothing about black metal. Ask Varg Vikernes or any member of early black metal bands what album started the black metal scene: Black Metal by Venom.
First, search and learn about it, then you can talk all the trash you want
@AzraelTheOne The band that was more popular in Norway was Bathory and their album Under the Sign of the Black Mark. I should have been a bit more clear about Mercyful Fate, they were more Proto black metal. Their image (or rather King Diamonds) and lyrical content for the albums Melissa and Don't Break the Oath were a bigger inspiration than anything venom did.

Isn't it awesome how Dave is better at making rock music and has more hits than anyone, then also outdoes all these shitty metal bands today like Lamb of God, Opeth, etc.
While it is true that Dave Grohl's a great musician, you cannot possibly call Opeth a "shitty" metal band, since Mikael Akerfeldt is one of the greatest musicians of our times, because he encompasses many kinds of rythms, even jazz-like ones. Now, in terms of riffs and guitar solos, Opeth and Lamb of God have some of the best ones out there.

Obviously you are a fan of great music probably a big hootie and the blowfish fan, you probably still have posters of that dead faggot Garcia on your wall.
Chronos is the shit. His bass playing leaves something to be desired (Lemmy Kilmister said his solo was 'absolutely terrible), but his growling vocals and that he forged the template for black metal in the days of the NWOBHM secures his places in metal folklore :).
Dave Grohl recorded and played ALL the instruments except for the songs where Lemmy sings since he does some of the bass. And where Kim from Soundgarden helped. Grohl is an inspirational musician!
mmm right!!! I almost get that!!! I know that he play drums Nirvana and also play queen of stone age I don't gigs is he play them, but that 1 video.. what is dream team? =/ those songs are very good =) I like them, exept ice something man :D that's so fucking bad and that dreams thing..
I don't get this "band" or "project" cause do ever anybody see them live? if this Dave guy sings and play all songs himself!!!! so how the hell he plays all instrument himself? =/ but this so brutal!!!! I love them songs!!! =)
tom araya was originally supposed to sing this track, but I think he didnt respond to daves request or something. Phil Anselmo was also be on a track but it didnt work out because of touring committments. in any case phils a right dickhead anyway, although a good musician, as a person Phil Anselmos a complete bastard. Im glad Cronos and Max Cav managed to be on the releases, theyre good artists and decent people.
I seriously doubt that Tom Araya or Phil Anselmo was ever supposed to sing this track. Dave is a huge Venom fan and I'm quite sure Cronos was his first and only choice for this record. BTW Anselmo would have sucked singing on this song.
joseph, go read the biography of Dave Grohl, it says there how Dave wanted Phil Anselmo and Tom Araya to sing on the album as well, cause Dave was always a huge Slayer fan.
Both were asked to sing on the album but certainly not this song. There is prolly two songs still rotting somewhere which were supposed to be sung by them...
Yea that's true but if you look at the muscians they are all very underground, more so then pantera or slayer. You got Cronos, King Diamond, Max cavalera, Tom Warrior, Snake... Not well know but in the metal community they are well respected.
I don't think Dave ever wanted to play metal full time. This was just a fun side project to pay tribute to his more metal influences.
Daves the product of a massive variety of musical influences. Read interviews with him and he'll rant on about stuff from The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac right through to Death and Celtic Frost.
Dave taught me how important it is to listen to music right across the board. Personally I love metal but I cant imagine listening to it exclusively. That's just dull.
so, the lyrics are shit, the music is shit, the song is shit (except for cronos)? did i get that right?
hmmm...cronos must not have thought so, or i doubt very seriously that he would have joined the project. but i'm sure you know good music better than him.
starting fights? am i not entitled to an opinion, or is your idiotic one the only one that matters? you're entitled to your opinion, however flawed the logic behind it is.
fact is, dave grohl 1. wrote all the lyrics, 2. wrote the music, and 3. invited all the singers and various musicians to come out and perform on the album. IE cronos thought it was a good enough project to work on...but you sit behind YOUR computer screen and call it shit?
Not only Cronos, but look at some of the others..Wino, Kurt from D.R.I...come on, I seriously doubt they would have come on board with this if say..oh I don't know, Justin Timberlake wanted to do this project. There obviously was a level of respect involved.
intense ... crimson skies....open up the gates and yelllllll. intense... Venom fans should be pleased. Cronos isn't playing to any fad or scene... Cronos is just singing the way he sings.... this is his instrument and style .... and thats what I want.

unknownonehuman 2 years ago
I don't get this "band" or "project" cause do ever anybody see them live? if this Dave guy sings and play all songs himself!!!! so how the hell he plays all instrument himself? =/ but this so brutal!!!! I love them songs!!! =)
unknownonehuman 2 years ago
Dave Grohl was the drummer from Nirvana, and is now lead vocals and guitar for Foo Fighters which began as his own project.
Probot was just an idea he had to collaborate with a lot of rock musicians he liked, and he did the drums for all the tracks as far as I know.
Due to the number of people involved in Probot, it's not possible to tour as a band, especially as they have other commitments.
The result of Probot is a very diverse and unique rock album. It's kind of like a dream team of rock.

Good explanation.
GunnarX7 2 years ago
Grohl actually played all the instruments not just the drums and also wrote the songs.

eleetish 2 years ago
actually Dave plays guitar, drums and bass on most of this album. Probot isnt a band just a project
willisingo 2 years ago 5
tom araya was originally supposed to sing this track, but I think he didnt respond to daves request or something.
Grimeyhoob 2 years ago
Tom Araya couldn't because he had conflicts in his schedule.
countchaos99 2 years ago 3
I seriously doubt that Tom Araya or Phil Anselmo was ever supposed to sing this track. Dave is a huge Venom fan and I'm quite sure Cronos was his first and only choice for this record. BTW Anselmo would have sucked singing on this song.
josephdemaio 2 years ago
joseph, go read the biography of Dave Grohl, it says there how Dave wanted Phil Anselmo and Tom Araya to sing on the album as well, cause Dave was always a huge Slayer fan.
Grimeyhoob 2 years ago
Both were asked to sing on the album but certainly not this song. There is prolly two songs still rotting somewhere which were supposed to be sung by them...
Shepherd777 2 years ago
Yea that's true but if you look at the muscians they are all very underground, more so then pantera or slayer. You got Cronos, King Diamond, Max cavalera, Tom Warrior, Snake... Not well know but in the metal community they are well respected.

Cronos sounds great now as he did 25 years ago.I remember when Venom first broke out,my ears bled.

why doesnt dave grohl just start a serious metal band?
Bloodsport7 3 years ago 2
I don't think Dave ever wanted to play metal full time. This was just a fun side project to pay tribute to his more metal influences.
Daves the product of a massive variety of musical influences. Read interviews with him and he'll rant on about stuff from The Beatles and Fleetwood Mac right through to Death and Celtic Frost.
Dave taught me how important it is to listen to music right across the board. Personally I love metal but I cant imagine listening to it exclusively. That's just dull.

Honestly,
Foo fighters were still shittin' yellow when VENOM was tearing apart the stage for 30 years!!!

yeah and every probot song can lick my nuts, the only reason this song is half decent is because of cronos.
Foo Fighters suck. I think they wrote one good song in their entire career
forgedeath 3 years ago
so, the lyrics are shit, the music is shit, the song is shit (except for cronos)? did i get that right?
hmmm...cronos must not have thought so, or i doubt very seriously that he would have joined the project. but i'm sure you know good music better than him.
you're a fucking douchebag.
satansdik 3 years ago
You're so intimidating,
starting fights behind the safety of your computer screen, people like you make me laugh, have fun, hopefully you grow up soon!
forgedeath 3 years ago
starting fights? am i not entitled to an opinion, or is your idiotic one the only one that matters? you're entitled to your opinion, however flawed the logic behind it is.
fact is, dave grohl 1. wrote all the lyrics, 2. wrote the music, and 3. invited all the singers and various musicians to come out and perform on the album. IE cronos thought it was a good enough project to work on...but you sit behind YOUR computer screen and call it shit?
point remains: you're still a fucking douchebag.
satansdik 3 years ago 3
Dave also played every instrument on the album. He is the re-incarnation of god.

Not only Cronos, but look at some of the others..Wino, Kurt from D.R.I...come on, I seriously doubt they would have come on board with this if say..oh I don't know, Justin Timberlake wanted to do this project. There obviously was a level of respect involved.
