Raced a new gt500 with my gsxr 750 and I played with it of course but he had some good torque we went about 170. So the new gt500s have some balls. The gts are getting better as well.

rx8s gets there 230 hp at around 6400rpm but it relines at 7.5-8.5 depending if u have auto or stick. and if u wanna add the gearing and tire, than the rx-8 depending on what year gets it bhp of around 180-200 at 6400

that is not the s2k exhaust you are hearing. he was in the right gear but dont know the mods on both cars either. both cars have similar power but the s2k has a mechanical advantage in 2nd through 6th gear for acceleration. If the 8 had a few mods, I would match the s2k on the highway, as mine does. I keep up with them and g35s all the time. they look so surprised when I am right there with them.
It is the S2k your hearing, the sound was coming from the intake. And he was not in the right gear. If he was then there wouldn't have been a 3 second delay before you could hear the Vtec crossover. He would have already been in Vtec. And they may have similar claimed power from the factory, but stock for stock the S2000 generally dyno's 20hp more at the wheels. The Rx8 is a great all around car though. Has some of the best handling characteristics of any sports car out there.
may be. the 20hp comes from gearing and wheel/tire weight. they both have decent power and just about the same. the difference is, the 8 has more tq/hp available at lower rpms where as the s2k gets a boost around 5800 when the cam profiles change (vtec)
He was in the right rev range and vtec is nothing more than having 2 usable cams without having to swap them out to get a decent idle and low end and opening up the valves more for top end. It is just a way to get more power and pass emmissions due to most people wont drive it above the 5800 to 'activate' the cams. The s2k and 8 are so close in perfromance. The s2k does have leverage on its side in 2nd through 6th gear and is why it runs better straight line times. Easy to prove.

yea, but they come from the factory with turbos, so you can get them to be Much faster without much money. rx8 you have to install an expensive turbo kit.
true but turbos are not that much and you get better gains out of a rx-8 versus a 7, because it is non-turbo, and the supesion is better suted to the power gain, so in that way they are nicer but i agree it is easier to get power out of a 7, if i get a bigger turbo and change the rototion speed, etc..
if you look on wikipedia the rx-7 is close to the same weigh if the 8 is manuel, 200 lb heavier in auto, and turbos for a rx-8 start at 400 which is not too bad

The FD is lighter and handles better than the rx8. I dont know where you got your info from. Turbo'ing a renesis is much more harder due to its new design. Its also expensive and wont yield that much power, going by a cost/power ratio.
Stock vs stock, rx7 pulls .98g on the skidpad while the rx8 did a .88g. I know going by skidpad nowadays is vague but those are one of the many parameters used when testing cars. Its a general idea. You def dont get 100+ hp from 7psi, maybe 60hp, 75hp max but no way you're gonna get 100+hp out of 7psi unless you're throwing on a huge ass turbo.
you could ebay most of the parts for either car and get used parts for cheap but a new system for either is at least 5k even if you can do most yourself as you have to tune them as well and, you have to get the software somehow for both. this is really a pointless arguement. to do it right, it is going to cost on either car, period.

But peak power doesn't mean shi... its the integral of that power/rpm curve that tells you the change in kinetic energy(i.e., the change in speed. Its my personal belief that the 8 has more tuning potential(as the s2k is a more hardcore car stock). It's close enough that a little idiocy(being in the wrong gear) lets the rx8 win, but most professionals agree the s2k wins stock.

Rx8 gives u a half second in the 1/4 forrrrr... 4 seats, betr combind fuel econ, a betr gearbox, nicer interior, 6cd chang, nicer wheels, gps, (i guess we both hav heatd seats) oh and we dont hav to associate with all the honda "tuners".
P.s. 8 runs better track times and we weigh more

@LOGIKLAG You must be really confused. how exactly do they not come close? Ive driven all the cars here, including the new more powerful '09 wrx. Wrx is a good car especialy when you are rallying but on a track? the rx8, s2000 both kill the wrx in terms of handling, steering feel, braking, slalom? the subaru does have good grip. do you not realize that the new body WRX was out for only 11 months before the Subaru decided to rework it? Go read ANY review and it gets trashed compared to the 07.

rx8s gets there 230 hp at around 6400rpm but it relines at 7.5-8.5 depending if u have auto or stick. and if u wanna add the gearing and tire, than the rx-8 depending on what year gets it bhp of around 180-200 at 6400

that is not the s2k exhaust you are hearing. he was in the right gear but dont know the mods on both cars either. both cars have similar power but the s2k has a mechanical advantage in 2nd through 6th gear for acceleration. If the 8 had a few mods, I would match the s2k on the highway, as mine does. I keep up with them and g35s all the time. they look so surprised when I am right there with them.

It is the S2k your hearing, the sound was coming from the intake. And he was not in the right gear. If he was then there wouldn't have been a 3 second delay before you could hear the Vtec crossover. He would have already been in Vtec. And they may have similar claimed power from the factory, but stock for stock the S2000 generally dyno's 20hp more at the wheels. The Rx8 is a great all around car though. Has some of the best handling characteristics of any sports car out there.

may be. the 20hp comes from gearing and wheel/tire weight. they both have decent power and just about the same. the difference is, the 8 has more tq/hp available at lower rpms where as the s2k gets a boost around 5800 when the cam profiles change (vtec)

He was in the right rev range and vtec is nothing more than having 2 usable cams without having to swap them out to get a decent idle and low end and opening up the valves more for top end. It is just a way to get more power and pass emmissions due to most people wont drive it above the 5800 to 'activate' the cams. The s2k and 8 are so close in perfromance. The s2k does have leverage on its side in 2nd through 6th gear and is why it runs better straight line times. Easy to prove.

I used to have the s2k back in college and now I have the rx8 and I cant tell the difference in power at all lol but hope fully after I install the Esmeril Racing turbo kit on the 8 ill tell the difference lol :)

the turbo rx-7 is only a little fater then a non-turbo rx-8, but the rx-8 handles better and you turbo the rx8 c u later!

yea, but they come from the factory with turbos, so you can get them to be Much faster without much money. rx8 you have to install an expensive turbo kit.

true but turbos are not that much and you get better gains out of a rx-8 versus a 7, because it is non-turbo, and the supesion is better suted to the power gain, so in that way they are nicer but i agree it is easier to get power out of a 7, if i get a bigger turbo and change the rototion speed, etc..

if you look on wikipedia the rx-7 is close to the same weigh if the 8 is manuel, 200 lb heavier in auto, and turbos for a rx-8 start at 400 which is not too bad

I used to own an 8, it was an 04 gt, when i weighed it, it was over 3000 without driver.

The FD is lighter and handles better than the rx8. I dont know where you got your info from. Turbo'ing a renesis is much more harder due to its new design. Its also expensive and wont yield that much power, going by a cost/power ratio.

rx-8 do handle better then rx-7, watch a vid of them, and you put 7 psi and get 100 more hp out of the one rx-8 motors! i think that is a good gain!

Stock vs stock, rx7 pulls .98g on the skidpad while the rx8 did a .88g. I know going by skidpad nowadays is vague but those are one of the many parameters used when testing cars. Its a general idea. You def dont get 100+ hp from 7psi, maybe 60hp, 75hp max but no way you're gonna get 100+hp out of 7psi unless you're throwing on a huge ass turbo.

you could ebay most of the parts for either car and get used parts for cheap but a new system for either is at least 5k even if you can do most yourself as you have to tune them as well and, you have to get the software somehow for both. this is really a pointless arguement. to do it right, it is going to cost on either car, period.

Xboss, you're quoting weight to power, not power to weight. Same idea, except lower is better for weight to power.
But peak power doesn't mean shi... its the integral of that power/rpm curve that tells you the change in kinetic energy(i.e., the change in speed. Its my personal belief that the 8 has more tuning potential(as the s2k is a more hardcore car stock). It's close enough that a little idiocy(being in the wrong gear) lets the rx8 win, but most professionals agree the s2k wins stock.
