Running top makes it always look like you're hacking to pentagon. Next time update speed faster so it looks more 1337. And some obfuscated javascript to another window. But yeah. looks nice.
These are great, they actually *manage* windows, no clutter leaving the whole screen to display applications instead of decorations, either you want to see a window or you dont (& having half of it visible is a waste of screenspace).
Just need more GUI apps to automatically reconfigure themselves for Portrait or Landscape view so they use their given screenspace more effectively
Thumbs up if I should try switching from OpenBox to Awesome. I've been thinking about it for a while. The idea of centralized config really appeals to me, too.
3:47 wow, what happened to the wallpaper there? also, is this window manager jerky at times (it looked jerky when you were stacking the windows and browsing files), or is it just youtube messing with the video? do you feel it to be jerky at times? what type of hardware do you use (cpu and ram, just to know if that's what's making it jerky)?
@killthetaco the reason its jerky is because i had my graphics card configured wrong and gtk-recordmydesktop is a bitch on resources plus with evince + mpd + urxvt + nautilus it was a little laggy
@pappegye that would be "top", it's a standard taskmanager, but quite unhandy compared to "htop" which is not standard but actually in every repository
Just emerged Awesome on Gentoo. Before I was running compiz with kde/gnome. I enjoy Awesome wm. Some time ago I used to use DWM from which Awesome derived
I cannot get transparency working on awesome. Also could you link me to the theme or the site u got it from. I am brand new and have no idea what i am doing as far as customization.
It depends on your application. I know a few circumstances when FreeBSD would be better than a GNU/Linux distro. I'm also kinda disappointed in the direction most of the linux distributions are going.
The latter, Awesome is a tiling window manager, instead of having windows floating aimlessly around the desktop, awesome spreads desktop space evenly between windows, depending on the selected layout. So they do sort of resize magically and dynamically. ^^
@MarcusTheReverent what os you using?

Why limit yourself with tiling managers? They resize your windows when you open a new app. Who the fuck wants that?

it's multiple desktops, or those windows are resizing so magical dynamically?

They are resized dynamically to use every single pixel of your screen, There's no WINDOWS! :)

I'd just call them non-overlapping windows, like they've been called for years.
