I'm guessing this clip is from 1940's or a re-enactment of of some sort.
These days with a modern Navy this guy would be using perhaps Bluetooth, a Mobile, a handheld CB radio? At the very least, you'd expect to see him using something smaller than that Jukebox he's talking into...
@grl8862 No, this is not a re-enactment. Navy ships have a very specific coms network that allows you speak to particular areas or the entire ship. That coms box is plugged into that system when docked. It's a battle-proven system. That's why it's still in use throughout the Navy. As a member of the Houston crew (91-94), the only thing I can charge him with is being a little dull. I'm not sure if he's leaving the boat for good or if he's just goofin' off. Either way, he's happy. That's the 713!
