I saw her at a celeb autograph con many years ago and she was HUGE!! Meaning had put on 100 pounds or so, but not too many people were waiting to meet her. She'll have to live with what happened for the rest of her life but unfortunately her crime is at the worse end of the scale. It's not like she was a baseball player who used steroids and cheated. Her inner circle tried to OFF her competition. Can't live that down, sorry.
What on earth could the people in the audience be applauding Tonya Harding for? Are they proud of her? Is she some kind of role model to them? I'm astounded.

Seriously?.... I mean seriously? Talk about being a victim of the media. She is the first american woman to land a triple axel. She is the first woman to have muscle and to prove that twigs are not the only figure of a figure skater. She is a role model for athletes who have clearly abusive parents. She is the without a doubt the most powerful, solid, skaters in history. So yes. They should applaud.
This is NOT what she has become famous for. She has become famous for one of the most disgraceful actions against a co-athlete. And that rock opera or any other of the attention she gets is not because of her athletic achievements (which by the way were not that impressive, considering how she did in world championships and olympic games), but because of her disgraceful behavior. That's why she doesn't deserve the applause.
The cast had drinks with Tonya after the show. She is a warmhearted and generous spirit. My opinion of her has changed so much as a result of doing this show.
