  • One of my favorite movies. I don't remember who said it, but I saw an interview in which a man said, "This movie makes you uncomfortable which is precisely what art is supposed to do." Perfectly said. If you watch this and you find yourself getting caught up in the tension, then Spike and company achieved their goal. I also always thought this could be turned into a great play. Some of the dialogue and images really lend themselves to the stage. I wish it were possible.

  • love this film so much

  • Great movie. One of the greatest of all time.

  • Not that it really matters, but I feel this one should have had more oscar nominations... and wins. This truly was one of the greatest film of its year

  • Mookie is back in 2012!!

  • @morradiermann90 I think you're probably the idiot here. First off, if you let a movie make you a racist, you're dumb as fuck. I'd go into the dozen other reasons that prove you're a moron, but I think it would be lost on you. Please don't breed.

  • @morradiermann90 well if you're aware of this, hopefully you won't act upon this racism (or cultivate it...)

  • @morradiermann90 you come off immature and maybe you are to say that a movie made you 90% more racist- just think about the fact that you thought that and said it. smh

  • @morradiermann90 actualy that just proves yer an idiot. the movie, i believe , is meant to show nothing good comes out of acting like its characters

  • A great film.

I love how they act, i love the message, mookies giant eyes and of course the music out of radio raheem's radio.

    Big movie

  • a fucking great movie !!!!

  • RIP Radio Raheem

  • Haha! Martin lawrence at 1:23 :D

  • 1:03!!!!! xDDD

  • Watched the movie just then. It's OK but not great (5 or 6 out of 10).

  • @CyReNiUsX

i disagree. this is good. 10/10

  • I haven't seen this, i want to though. I read that it was Martin Lawrence's debut film

  • I remember watching this movie when it came out, italians have lost that huspah they once had from back then, they're more american now.

  • its funny and ironic that Giancarlo Esposito's charater(the one with those glasses and who was tripin when this white dude messed up his shoes)is actually played by an half italian and was born in italy.but yeah

  • @sillau9 wait, mistake i meant to say he was also lived in italy not born there

  • all yah talking about this race stuff need 2 just shut up be proud of who u r and not talk about what ur ancestors did 200 yrs ago cause many people can say the same thing but it doesnt matter. i hate racism i dont care what ur racist towards its just retarded. shut up already.

  • This never would've happened if it wasn't so hot...

  • Nobody disses Public Enemy!!!!!!!!

  • What is the song playing in the beginning of the trailer.

  • Great quality.

  • this movie just shows me that the only true enemy of everyone on the quarter is the police!

they should fight the police not themself just cause of stupid skin colours!

  • I truly ashamed of never having seen this movie ..

    wow .. it's just unbelievable ..

I just saw an Preview in which they are in the grocery store and yell at each other due to the batteries.

    - motherfucker D !!

    day !?? March !

    - fuck

    mothafucker you !

a fucking giggle for 5 minutes, damn they almost killed me.

    ahahahahh !!!

  • FIGHT THE POWER!

  • Radio: "I said D motherfucker D!"

    Korean: "Modafoka you!"

  • Radio: "I said D motherfucker D!

    Korean: Modafoka you!

  • Deep down inside, I wish I was black. Sorry if that sounds racist

  • @Dwk519 Good for you. But any explanantion as to why??

  • @GurlCaa Im white, christian, and Irish. My people never had anything to fight or rebel for

  • @Dwk519 Oh so u wanna know what its like to struggle, lose part of ur african heritage, walk into a store and feel as if uve stole something, store clerks watching you up-n-down, be on the street and white women holding their purses extra tight. experience racism and prejudice from all races and even your own, go through a skin complexion crisis of who's lighter and who's darker, know what its like not to get a call back on ur resume. And having to hear ignorant people throw around the N-word.

  • @GurlCaa Your right. Im sorry if I offended you. I guess I dont know what Im talking about.

  • @Dwk519 well you can fight and rebel against "reverse racism" now that white people are "victims" of the so called "affirmative action"

  • @philanderadriaan Yeah, but if I fought against "Reverse racism" and called my self a victim, I would look like a real douche

  • @Dwk519 at least u get what u asked for

  • @philanderadriaan You really need to STFU with that ish!

  • @QuietMelody why? you feeling a little discriminated?

  • @Dwk519 I'm not going to say anything about your wanting to be black because I'm white and it's not my place and the other commenters have done a better job than I could. But "your people" most definitely had something to fight for and rebel against. And if you aren't aware of that, then we aren't your damn people.

  • @Dwk519 You obviously know nothing about Ireland or Christianity. Look up the history of the IRA and Nero. Stop making assumptions about race and culture when you don't even know history that well.

  • @Dwk519 you're clearly an ignorant creature if you don't know the history of the Irish whom were subjugated by England and the Christians who have been oppressed through the centuries. take a history class.

  • @Dwk519

You are the most white guilt stricken, pussy i have ever seen.

Seriously man grow some balls and be proud for who you are.

    I'm Catholic English and Irish.

My Irish side has been battling the English for their freedom for the past 200 years. Many of them were in the IRA and died i combat to help liberate Ireland.

My English side were American Colonists. They had to deal with the American Revolution and then the war of northern aggression.

    Be proud to be white.

    WHITE POWER!

  • @cheap3shotproduction First of all, don't say white power. Second of all, never call me a pussy. I don't really wish I was black. I'm proud of who I am. God made me this way and I'm thankful for that. And nobody cares about what your ancestors did 200 years ago. My ancestors did the same thing and you don't see me telling people a sob story.

  • @Dwk519

I can be proud for who i am pussy.

"I want to be black. Sorry if that sounds racist."

    hahaha seriously grow a pair.

Your not white in my eyes and i guaran"fucking"tee you nobody will mistake you for a black man.

I can't stand people who aren't proud of their race.

I don't care if your white, black, hispanic, indian, asian, be proud for who you fucking are.

  • @cheap3shotproduction Dude. I'm not one of those white guys trying to be black. And why do you care? And besides, there's not that much pride in being white

  • sheisty soundtrack, actors, story tellin - one of the best movies ive ever senn & this probaly wont change with all deez overedited movie that'll come out in future and that is the quintuple truth, ruth!

  • @YoungPoleInOldReekie Yeah but the only true dignified black men in this film was DA Mayor and Samuel L. Jackson's character. I love this film, and I hate it. DA Mayor was the only person who was vocal on what doing the right thing really meant. And what does he get? He gets blasted throughout half the film by different characters for shit reasons. It seems that everyone save for him and the disc jockey carried racial prejudices. That's what's disturbing; the local wino was the most sane of all.

  • @Horusthebetrayer

the plot was his point. Spike accomplished portraying society and how people responded to and acted in it, and interactions at the time- sentiments of which remain today

  • @Horusthebetrayer that was the dramatic irony of the movie...helps make the film

  • you know, i found out that buggin out, the one complent about no african american pics on the wall and only italian american is actual an itilian american

  • is Buggin' Out supposed to look like Trotsky or is that just me?

  • i thought it was ironic that giancarlo was the black militant after i found out he was half italian!! lol it still makes me chuckle a little. and did ya'll notice tha martin was in this movie and tisha campbell martin was in school daze?

  • "Always do the right thing." The lesson left by every sage, saint, and prophet. The problem is when "the right thing" doesn't mean the SAME thing for people. Fight the power w00t

  • Fight the power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 2:08 - 2:14 a spike lee joint --> this is how other directors should have done: A Steven Spielberg joint - SAVING PRIVATE RYAN ; A Martin Scorsese joint - GOODFELLAS ; A Tom Hooper joint - THE KING'S SPEECH ..........

  • I see these comments, and both sides after 15 years have not learned the lesson of this story, that there are no pure good or pure bad people, everyone has their motives and if we could just stop all this tension over skin color, we wouldn't have situations like this. All it takes is two hotheads to start a fight, but only one death to end it.

  • @qurtrshdw Wow man...deeeeeeeeeeeeep

  • spike got screwed out of every oscar that year

  • @whatthehellvideos I agree, Driving Miss Daisy was not the Best Picture of 1989, Do the Right Thing was.

  • hate how they randomly insert radio raheem at 0:47

  • 2nd greatest spike lee movie ever (besides jungle fever)

  • an american masterpeice

  • All his movies are wack!

  • great movie. Peace love and unity !

  • Mookie is a lazy stupid opportunist. People think he´s the hero of the movie just because he´s the protagonist, that´s not true. I believe that was Spike Lee´s intention, create an anti hero. The real intelligent people there were Sal and the Mayor.

  • @octaviocgsa are u death mudafucka ...mokie is just a black man struglin to survive andtrying to put some food on da big ass table hes not lazy ,and ur speaking of an actor....yet u dont understand da fuckin point of the moviee

  • @octaviocgsa

    wrong. it was NOBODY.

  • HMM I Wonder why it took a loong time for some one to notice the pics on the wall?

  • HMM I Wonder why it took a loong time for some one to notice the pics on the wall?

  • This is really the best satirical comedy movie ever made. Also one of the best social and racial study of different races (in a neighbourhood) and also and excellent drama.

  • the funny thing about buggin out is that the actor that plays him (giancarlo esposito) is half italian LOL

  • movie is so fuckin gay\

  • One of the most underrated films ever & although I'm into indie rock, I do appreciate the blisteringly awesome soundtrack:-)

  • this movie pissed me of, that black guy pissed me off, because everything he said was invalid, he wants to push his own black believes on other people, in other peoples store which he doesn't own therefore doesn't have the right to request anything, you don't like it, go away, this movie is the reason why white people still hate black people

  • @lifemetall

HAHAHA sjebo sam kad sam vidio da si iz hrv

  • @lifemetall

    You're damn right man!

  • Don't like this movie, too many negros in it for my liking.

  • haahha mike tyson yhhh i loved his boxing days

  • i love how spike lee is in his own movies i love his movie crooklyn one of my favorites

  • @Adam10084 A heartbeat.

  • So this is where The Boondocks' "The Block is Hot" episode gets its inspiration.

  • I had just noticed Samuel L. Jackson was in this movie. He must have had a cameo.

  • @xyPERSON nah i think this was before he blew up as an actor

  • @xyPERSON

a cameo? he's in the beginning, end, and much of the middle. and when he's not on screen, you hear his voiceover many times. he's the radio dj (señor love daddy)...how could you miss that?

  • @wash2007 Sorry, I must not have been paying attention.

  • you can see martin at 1:31

  • This movie and Public Enemy's "fight the Power" was a force to be reckoned with. Awsome movie, great acting and a message all to big for most people to grasp.

  • @VisionofOrion can u tell me what the message was?

  • My fist is high up, you go spike.

  • @Adam10084 Oh, thank you. It's funny you say that, because I've been feeling dumb lately, but that makes me feel good. Thank you.

  • @Adam10084 Oh, thank you.

  • Sal is the same guy in Transformer's...the one that plays that agent that doesn't like Sam lol

  • Is this the actual 1989 trailer, or is this just one of those trailers that come with DVD's/cassettes?

  • I felt genuinely upset when the police killed Raheem.

This is such a great film and it actually makes you think, whereas films that may deal with the same subject made nowadays TELL you that they're thought-provoking. People aren't left to think for themselves by the films that are made now

  • ==+WATCH FULL FILM IN REAL HD ON MY CHANNEL+===

    PEACE OUT GUYS

  • What is the song at the beginning ?

  • Don't ya just want to punch Buggin' Out in the face?

  • @loonmaniac

    YES, very much!

  • @loonmaniac ya but hes still my favorite character next to Raheem and Spike oh ya and Sweet Dick Willie is mad funny (Robin Harris) the funny thing about the actor who plays Buggin Out is his name is Giancarlo Esposito hes actually half italian half black haha yet in the movie he hates italians with a passion

  • @loonmaniac I would but Ahmad makes me angrier to the point I got to beat him up for trying to get at an Older person (Shaking Head "NO"). Buggin' Out got psychological issues for me to punch him.

  • One of my favorite moments is in the parlor when Sal and radio are screaming at each other and the neighborhood kids (one of whom is Martin Lawrence) are yelling in the background in favor of Sal. Once Sal refers to Radio with the n word however, they immediately start yelling for Radio to kick Sal’s ass! It’s so quick a lot of folks don’t notice it but it speaks volumes about the way passions can change at the drop of a hat due to many reasons.

  • @LiquidSolidRaiden Yes. I love that scene to. Infact that scene is my favourite! It's a beautiful film.

  • FIGHT THE POWER

  • So air conditioning hadn't been invented in the 80s in New York?

  • One of the 100 greatest films of all time and the greatest film of the genre. This is a film that Crash and American History X failed to replicate. Not even the great Spike Lee was able to surpass his own masterpiece.

  • this movie is filled with arguing from beginning to end, samuel l jackson was the only one who was cool tho

  • mookie?!?!?!

  • It's sad how the guy with the boombox dies. At least they kicked some ass. =]

  • @slade90210 I am glad he died, he was wortheless and didn't do shit but pick fights with people, yea he is a real contribution to society.

  • An all time CLASSIC!!!

  • great movie!

  • This goddamn sucked. The characters are completely uninteresting, not a one of them did I care about, simply because none of them did anything that made any logical sense.

  • @loonmaniac fuck you bitch i noticed how eveybody else liked the movie but you.

  • ' What you oughta do is boycott that local barber that messed up your head ! " LMAO !!!!!

Robin Harris - easily one of the funniest comedians ever

  • I was 15 during the time they started filming this movie (summer of '88) and lived only a few blocks away. Me and my friends used to go over to Lewis Ave to watch them film. The cops never let us get too close, so we really didn't know what the movie was about. When it finally came out and we went to see it, we were like, "Wait. Bed-Stuy ain't like that." Yea, there are parts of BK that are racist, but not Bed-Stuy. We liked the movie, we just didn't understand all of the racial drama.

  • they dont make movies like they did back then.

  • One of the top 10 greatest films of all time, Ossie Davis was the sole hero of the film.

  • Good call vigo... when that heat seeps into the brain, it can make the smartest of men look like fools.

  • This movie makes American History X look like shit.

  • @DCAUFan theyre two compltely different movies..

  • @DCAUFan That is of course if you're assuming that American History X isn't shit already.

  • Da Mayor is the only hero of this film since he saves Pino, Vito, and Sal from getting lynched in the end. Those whops should be grateful a black man saved their sorry asses.

  • MY FAVORITE ALL TIME MOVIE!

  • This dude and his messed up haircut had to start shit up

  • @MsMig88 But in REAL life he is 1/2 Italian on his fathers side.He name is Giancarlo Esposito, sort of weird that he played that part.

  • The villians are clearly Buggin Out and to a lesser extent, Radio Raheem.

  • @ForcheAlex= To me, the villain is the heatwave. Look what it did to those people. You put a bunch of people together in a small area during a heatwave, no matter what their color is, and they'll eventually try to tear each other apart. It's happened before.

  • @ForcheAlex n pino that racist prick sal was much like mookie just got caught up

  • @ForcheAlex Buggin Out and Pino(and Radio Raheem,to a lesser extent)were the three characters who really accelerated the conflict to a new level. but a lot of the stuff that happened with the italian restaurant was started by Buggin Out.

  • cool i'm gonna see that with a big spliff

  • great, great movie

  • this movie is too funny i wacthed it and i fell in love wit it lol 'fight the power'.thtz all my friends would say when they saw the movie and the nxt day at school they were still screamin it in the halls it was sssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooooooo funny

  • I LOVE this movie!! "Fight The Power!" Lmao Radio Raheem

  • Back when movies had substance...This was a classic!

  • Yo man! Do the right thing!!

  • the only message i got from this film was the italians and koreans worked hard and were succesful and the blacks in the film were lazy and angry that they didnt have stores, radio raheem and buggin out are cockheads. why the fuck is radio raheem playing public enemy instead of the rat pack cos hes black sal is italian so of course he is going to display italian greats on his wall. i didnt get this film at all

  • woah that movie's pretty brutal. I really liked Sal, I hope he's okay.

it was frightening to watch the mob scene - the whole idea of mob mentality, where if you don't go with the flow, you'll get crushed. There's no stopping the rampage. ... :/

  • My dad says that all the time, "Paije, Do da' right thang" :D

  • great movie.. one love yall

  • ...

  • This is one of only two Spike Lee movies I like (the other being The 25th Hour) and it's really sad to me that after 20 years of supposed growth in America the message of this movie is still lost on the majority. People really don't get it...

  • what about He Got Game?

  • @esdlax30 Sorry, nope.

  • @LibertineDeSade Malcolm X was good

  • @clutchcityrockets I've actually been meaning to see that.

  • great movie

  • 1 of the greatest movie trailers!

  • love this movie

  • what song is that in the beginning

  • fight the power by Public Enemy

  • why do you say that i thought that was a terrible thing for him to do?? Sal did nothing wrong and treated mookie nicely

  • why?

  • One of the best films from the 80's

  • I get put through the same situations as mookie every day just because your race surrounds your enviornment dosent mean you have to follow them or leave your other friends just because there white but either way your decisions effect your self so do the right thing

  • great movie :)

  • This is a movie everyone should see. I never liked Spike Lee but have to admit this movie is a masterpiece. I grew up in a white community in Brooklyn, but I feel "my" Brooklyn in every frame of this flick. I can't imagine it ever leaving my all time top 50.

  • i really hate this film. it completly overlooks the real discrimination of the time. also, i felt well sorry for that italian guy. why did his shop have to get destroyed? also, ironic that its supposed to be against racism, but everyone in it is openly racist to the koreans and no one seems to care.

  • GirlInColour... what do you mean you felt sorry for the italin guy???...so you missed the part when the cop killed radio raheem just cuz he was black?...you're an idiot

  • @schfiftyfive888 yh it's harder to feel sorry for radio raheem though, cos he was just trying to strangle Sal for breaking his radio

  • Because it wasnt the italian guys fault?? Sal was a nice guy who did nothing wrong.

  • Sal was a nice guy a. why isn't no black people on that wall?

  • because they were all italians on the wall ..... there were no english, polish, germ ect. on that wall either ............ same reason why BET shows 95% all black music videos on there channel and all the movies they show are predominately black movies. . . .

  • no BET is a White owned Million Dollar Corporation that trying 2 milk a new black market that did not exist be for. I'm going 2 say that Sal wasn't thinking about it.

  • what do you mean Sal wan't thinking about it? even in the movie before all the shit goes down sal tells mookie he's like a son to him. BET was founded by a black man who sold out to a jewish guy ....... it's still predominately run by blacks. It all started cause the boom box guy had no respect for the rules set by the owner of the place sal if he could just have respect the whole thing wouldn't have happenned

  • both are wrong legally you cant play your boom box like that but you cant take a bat 2 some body's property like that 2 Sal should DO THE RIGHT THING! called the cops like you should for that problem.

  • yea i feel you i think it's suppose to show that neither side is innocent.

  • @schfiftyfive888 Sal didn't do shit wrong. That cop did. Also, strangling a man didn't help.

  • i agree with you 100% Sal did nothing wrong he treated mookie nicely ... he wasnt the one who strangled the radio guy why would they destroy and rob his pizzario
