I noticed in your video you cited the (Third) Council of Carthage as the place where the canon - Old and New - was decided for all Christians. Sticking to the topic of canon, why do you, in your OT canon article, not cite the Council of Carthage there? And why cite Jewish councils and historians when by 70 AD, never mind 90 AD, the Jews and Christians had by then become distinct and separate entities? Why use post-70 AD Jewish non-Christian sources to define Christian scripture canon?
@SorokChyetirye From what the scholarship indicates, the church accepted the judgment of those Jewish councils as a whole when it came to the OT. But Christian regard towards the OT is not really the subject of the article anyway.
@tektontv Indeed, it is the development of the Christian canon. And you know the history books far better than I do. But even I know the Jews abandoned the LXX in 100 AD (including the Deuterocanonical books only in Greek) while the Christians continued to use it. When the Vulgate was translated, it was based on the LXX and the Hebrew Bible both. Other canons of Scripture, like in Orthodoxy, also follow the LXX's canon - including even MORE books than the Vulgate!
Questions, I'm not sure what point you are trying to make by asking people to name three cannons the were omitted from the Bible and following up with asking why they should have been included. I can't name three cannons (probably didn't even spell it right) and I can't tell you why they should be included in the Bible...so what are you trying to imply that that means?
@MrCatkins1973 Not "cannons"...books. The point is that Shermer was claiming the canonizing process was shoddy w/o any explanation. Elsewhere he names a couple of books excluded but doesn't explain why he thinks not including them was a mistake. That's not an argument, it's just hand-waving. If the process was faulty, he needs to demonstrate it with data and arguments.
Wow, it always amazes me how you can knock a false claim/argument out of the park with no possible counter and yet still people support it. If you're wrong, you're wrong. What don't atheist get, some Atheist arguments are sensible and I can see why someone would bring it up but others are just plain foolish and are easily shot down. Yet STILL, instead of them being honest and saying ok we're wrong next subject they want to fight tooth and nail of the failed points. It's a life of constant denial.
I'm not sure if this was worth your time, Penn and Teller have always said that they are entertainers first and foremost, and their show should be taken with a grain of salt.
@wwwTrueFreethinker The atheist is obsessed with God, often spending more time and effort than Theists in the process of linking the mind to him, by hook or by crook.
This is all God's arrangement, and sooner or later, by attachment alone, his negative obsession will become a positive one.
This is because God's qualities are irresistably attractive to the mind, and nobody can continue to deny the overwhelming urge to love him forever.
@wwwTrueFreethinker Archbishop Fulton Sheen once met an atheist who was preaching against God from a pulpit in London. He asked her, "Suppose I said that I talked against centaurs. Suppose I circulated England denouncing a belief in them. What would happen to me?" She said, "You'd be crazy. They'd lock you up." The archbishop said, "Don't you put God in the same category as these fantasies? Why would I be crazy attacking centaurs, and you'd not be crazy attacking God?"
Well...so much for the "no archeological evidence" argument, which is basically argumentum ad ignoratiam.Absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence.Skeptic like Shermer is supposed to know that.
"It is ad-hom" whine; "and you play yourself off as an expert" whine; "like MOST christians love to do" whine. You say Sherm is wrong and I say prove it. Give me some frame of reference other than "the fairy tale book Aka the bible" whine.

@caveman73 No, stupid. That's the same error Shermer made. I made no such argument. The argument made was that nothing being left behind does not DISprove the Exodus (in the wilderness, NOT in Egypt).
What kind of insensate stupidity is that you have? If that's as closely as you pay attention, it's no wonder you're as dumb as you are.

@tektontv No you didn't prove it. You presented your side and gave some points. I watched what you did and don't agree with your findings.
I am not gonna play the bible game with you. I don't care what you wanna believe, but when you and your like what your beliefs to taken as facts. I so no. I mean how do you justify calling the bible the word of god and the book was voted on by a committee to what to leave in and what to leave out.
@caveman73 I did prove it...and as expected, you're a scared little atheist boy once the questions are heaped on your head. :D Committee? Sorry, moron...that's the 3rd grade version of what happened.
Name 3 books or get deleted from now on, chicken boy.
@caveman73 As a neutral third party, I can say with absolute confidence that you are wrong and Tektontv is right -- he did indeed prove his points.
You may be too stupid to grasp logic, but your mental deficiency does nothing to disprove his valid conclusions. You would need to give a valid counter-argument for that, but you failed to do so.
Your assertions are no more valid than a pig's squeals, and your laughable understanding of logic matches the pig's as well.
@Dante666 Pretty sure considering Engineering and Electronics fields are the lowest in unemployment. Especially in Texas and Southern California so yeah I think with my retirement and my larger than avg new salary I will be just peachy.
Oh I'm pretty serious, I don't see where it falls into being nuts, there is lots of new infomation out there that isn't as cooky as someone who wouldn't give it the time of day would think. There used to exist an extremely advanced race of humans that inhabited the earth about ten thousand years before the time of Jesus Christ and they accomplished greater things than we have today. And why can't I see my first post anymore?
Gobekli Tepe, Puma Punku, Ollantaytambo,... anyways, i can appreciate hating Penn and Teller but come on the bible? You sound intelligent but closed minded the bible is a piece of garbage that has been twisted, turned, fabricated, and even had things simply taken out. I believe (and for good reason) the big 3 (Judism, Christianity,Islam) religions were created to cover up our real past that goes back tens of thousands of years ago, and it was probably extra-terrestrials.
You know, I read a book by which asserts that formal logic is not used by everyday (read: Fundy) arguments. Nonexperts in a field usually give a RESPONSE based on establishing a linkage between the data and the claim, not an ANSWER based on a series of premises logically leading to a conclusion. They cannot answer or establish an argument on the text, Because they don't know WHAT an answer/argument is in the scholarly context you show. Penn and Teller typify this in their work.
@rin221AA I haven't seen much of them other than this, but I can surely see that they have no idea what constitutes an actual argument against a given position.
@tektontv my own comment, actually, reflects this :-). I'm no expert on the Bible, so I couldn't give an informed answer; but I can give a response based on what I connected from their idiocies with the irrationality in the psychology books.
@HorrorIllogium Stupid comments like that are eactly why they need to be disabled -- an idiot like you can't answer the actual arguments, so you change the subject to something else. You rate not based on what's in the vid itself, but based on your prejudiced, ignorant views of Christainity as whole.
If you ever grow up enough to ansewer what's actually argued in the vid, let us know.
@tektontv Actually, I can, but it's a waste of time knowing my comments will be censored. I allow all comments/ratings on my videos. And yeah, stupid will always deserve to be mocked, sorry.
@HorrorIllogium No, you can't, that's just a lame excuse. I won't censor if you follow my rules, moron -- no profanity or blasphemy, and one message at a time. And you won't need to break any of those if you have any real arguments. Which you don't -- it's all over your head and beyond your ability to answer.
Let's start with the canon issue -- name three books you think should be in the canon, but aren't. Then explain why the first one should be in the canon. Will ask re the other two later.
"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer" 22:18
@karikon11 Sorry, chump. This is an Aslan world. What escapes you is that the problem with witchcraft was calling on other powers than YHWH; eg, it was a form of idolatry. Nice try though -- see if you can actually answer some of the arguments.
@tektontv You can see that magic belongs in the realm of fantasy. I think that is a good thing even if it does make you a hypocrite however that is a very common them when it comes to christans, muslims and jews.
@karikon11 I can see you're monumentally stupid and are now forced to change the subject since your original point has been smacked down. There's no hypocrisy here, moron -- the key is who you go to for power, not the power itself.
@karikon11 First of all, read my rules, no profanity. Second, you were not messing with anyone -- you got caught and called down for making a stupid mistake. So keep the victim complex. Third, learn to spell the word "testament". Finally, no hypocrisy here -- just an idiot being called to account for making a mistake (eg, you). Can't take it like you dish it out? Then see ya around, crybaby.
@karikon11 Yes, you don't see it because, as I told you, NO PROFANITY. Yeah, we're free to believe the facts: You were caught making an idiotic comment and cried like a baby when called down for it.
@tektontv I assure you that my comment was not rude in any way, shap or form. However if you want to block my critism then I am okey with that decision. I wish a long life and all the beast in life
@tektontv I almost forgot about you and I must apologies for that. I have now read the rules you set up and I realy think I did not break any of them. There is something called non-native english speeker and a native english speeker so you should think about that when it comes to my spelling and try to more pleasant when speeking to people.
@karikon11 Yes, you did break them; ignorance of the language is no more an excuse than ignorance of the law. The responsibility is not mine but yours to know the rules and what they mean in practice. If in doubt -- ASK.
@tektontv You have a better understanding of your native language then I do, is that something surprising. You are ignorant of other languages that inhadit this wourld yet you clam that being ignorant o f language is somehow the same as ignorance of the law. You are being untruthfull when it comes to your clam that I broke any of the rules you set up.
@karikon11 YAWN. The issue is the same -- responsibility. I don't go on native German websites and comment even though I know a little German, because I lack proficiency in the language and the customs. If you don't realize you broke the rules, then it is obvious you are not suffiiciently proficient.
That will be all as this is off topic. Either address the vid directly or hit the road.
Look up Chick Publications and you'll see. He's one of these Christians who thinks that reading fantasy stories like Harry Potter introduces children to the occult.
Than again its very possible our variances in how we Preach, could be part of the flow, counters to another. It was somewhat me being Hypocritical only differing in intent lol "Paved with good" eh?
Still I always find it worth knowing the other viewpoints.
@Greathiway Now you know better than to post words like that here. But it remains that you're doing worse than nitpicking -- you're making a mountain out of a molehill over a CARTOON.
That's a problem with fundamentalist mindset, you know.
I dunno, JP. The "intellectual" level of P&T seems below you. These are the guys who grossly offended people from their own camp by blaspheming Christ with a profane portrayal of the crucifixion.
@iwanttocrashmybike Had to pick 1 of your posts only due to my rules. But re posting w/o restrictions, weighing in the balance I'd rather not "get ratings" that way.
@tektontv Exactly,C.S. Lewis talked about that remember in his book "Reflections on le Psalms"
that one should not preach as if one is better than the one he is preaching to,this he said is a sin of pride and I think submission to the Carnal side instead of the holy spirit.
Also "I'd rather not "get ratings" that way"-Im not saying play any games like a "soul seller" but to deny access or dialogue to someone would most likely push them from le word of God,which is our purpose, not Balancing act
@mybikewantstocrashme Well, if someone is really honestly interested in dialogue, that's why I tell them to go to Theologyweb -- 500 char messages just won't work for what's truly needed for that kind of person. But anyway, when I do my 100th vid you'll see what my main objective here on YT is. It's not quite reaching people...it's something more fundamental and basic that does aid in that, though.
@tektontv True, but even from the most "useless" or aggravating encounters, that is to say that we the apologists of they the questioners,by some factor as their only "attacking" or our inability, they will inevitably as will we gain some sort of insight into the objectives we all seek.
I often remember advice that as a child, did "no" good, but when reflected upon, gave great wisdom, perhaps it "did good" only on Gods timetables, not ours;-)
@Greathiway On reflection, I take it you mean "can't" say dirty words, not "can". till not sure what's "telling" though other than perhaps that you may have a problem taking cartoon violence too seriously. I guess you'll next ask why Wile E. Coyote can blow up the Roadrunner but not say the f-word.
@Onetruthrgv It's actually an Allethene...a race from my Annals of Hearthstone webcomic series. The character is from there and has my personality type (INTJ), but is otherwise not like me at all (eg, there, he's a biologist) other than being very happily married to his sweetheart.

They cannot answer or establish an argument on the text, Because they don't know WHAT an answer/argument is in the scholarly context you show. Penn and Teller typify this in their work.
rin221AA 3 months ago
@rin221AA I haven't seen much of them other than this, but I can surely see that they have no idea what constitutes an actual argument against a given position.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv my own comment, actually, reflects this :-). I'm no expert on the Bible, so I couldn't give an informed answer; but I can give a response based on what I connected from their idiocies with the irrationality in the psychology books.

Ratings disabled. That's unfortunate, I'm also a huge fan of burning flesh...killing witches, homosexuals, etc.
HorrorIllogium 3 months ago
@HorrorIllogium Stupid comments like that are eactly why they need to be disabled -- an idiot like you can't answer the actual arguments, so you change the subject to something else. You rate not based on what's in the vid itself, but based on your prejudiced, ignorant views of Christainity as whole.
If you ever grow up enough to ansewer what's actually argued in the vid, let us know.
tektontv 3 months ago 7
@tektontv Actually, I can, but it's a waste of time knowing my comments will be censored. I allow all comments/ratings on my videos. And yeah, stupid will always deserve to be mocked, sorry.
HorrorIllogium 3 months ago
@HorrorIllogium No, you can't, that's just a lame excuse. I won't censor if you follow my rules, moron -- no profanity or blasphemy, and one message at a time. And you won't need to break any of those if you have any real arguments. Which you don't -- it's all over your head and beyond your ability to answer.
Let's start with the canon issue -- name three books you think should be in the canon, but aren't. Then explain why the first one should be in the canon. Will ask re the other two later.

Kill that animal for witchcraft!!
Deut 18:10
"There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer" 22:18
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 Sorry, chump. This is an Aslan world. What escapes you is that the problem with witchcraft was calling on other powers than YHWH; eg, it was a form of idolatry. Nice try though -- see if you can actually answer some of the arguments.

@tektontvyou are promoting magic, that sir is a heresy
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 you are promoting fundy atheist idiocy, that sir is a shame (but not unexpected)
tektontv 3 months ago 2
@tektontv You can see that magic belongs in the realm of fantasy. I think that is a good thing even if it does make you a hypocrite however that is a very common them when it comes to christans, muslims and jews.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 I can see you're monumentally stupid and are now forced to change the subject since your original point has been smacked down. There's no hypocrisy here, moron -- the key is who you go to for power, not the power itself.
tektontv 3 months ago
@karikon11 First of all, read my rules, no profanity. Second, you were not messing with anyone -- you got caught and called down for making a stupid mistake. So keep the victim complex. Third, learn to spell the word "testament". Finally, no hypocrisy here -- just an idiot being called to account for making a mistake (eg, you). Can't take it like you dish it out? Then see ya around, crybaby.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektonvYou are free to belive what you want
p.s I dont see the commet that I posted.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 Yes, you don't see it because, as I told you, NO PROFANITY. Yeah, we're free to believe the facts: You were caught making an idiotic comment and cried like a baby when called down for it.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv I assure you that my comment was not rude in any way, shap or form. However if you want to block my critism then I am okey with that decision. I wish a long life and all the beast in life
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 It broke my rules so suck it up, loser. And learn to spell "best" and "criticism" and "okay".
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv I almost forgot about you and I must apologies for that. I have now read the rules you set up and I realy think I did not break any of them. There is something called non-native english speeker and a native english speeker so you should think about that when it comes to my spelling and try to more pleasant when speeking to people.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 Yes, you did break them; ignorance of the language is no more an excuse than ignorance of the law. The responsibility is not mine but yours to know the rules and what they mean in practice. If in doubt -- ASK.
You should think about THAT.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv You have a better understanding of your native language then I do, is that something surprising. You are ignorant of other languages that inhadit this wourld yet you clam that being ignorant o f language is somehow the same as ignorance of the law. You are being untruthfull when it comes to your clam that I broke any of the rules you set up.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11 YAWN. The issue is the same -- responsibility. I don't go on native German websites and comment even though I know a little German, because I lack proficiency in the language and the customs. If you don't realize you broke the rules, then it is obvious you are not suffiiciently proficient.
That will be all as this is off topic. Either address the vid directly or hit the road.

@karikon11
Could you tell us which false gods the character in this video was calling upon for his magic?
ukchristian28 3 months ago
@karikon11
LOL, a fundy atheist who thinks like fundy Christians who have a problem with Harry Potter or The Wizard of Oz.
ukchristian28 3 months ago
@ukchristian28 I dont belive in magic. What I am doing called mocking and you sould be able to see that.
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11
Is that what you were trying to do? I thought you were trying to make a complete idiot of yourself by reasoning like a Jack Chick supporter.
ukchristian28 3 months ago
@ukchristian28 I am happy that you understand that my mocking is mocking
p.s who is Jack Chick
karikon11 3 months ago
@karikon11

When Penn hit Teller I laughed loudly.
LittleSn00py 3 months ago
@Greathiway Now you know better than to post words like that here. But it remains that you're doing worse than nitpicking -- you're making a mountain out of a molehill over a CARTOON.
That's a problem with fundamentalist mindset, you know.
tektontv 3 months ago
Penn and Teller are professional illusionists. Their frickin' job is to deceive their audience.
nymphrenic 3 months ago 29
I dunno, JP. The "intellectual" level of P&T seems below you. These are the guys who grossly offended people from their own camp by blaspheming Christ with a profane portrayal of the crucifixion.
JMcH 3 months ago
@JMcH I hadn't heard about that, but I'd gotten requests to address this, so..... :P
I think we could argue that nearly every YT atheist is below me in some way.

iwanttocrashmybike 3 months ago
@iwanttocrashmybike Had to pick 1 of your posts only due to my rules. But re posting w/o restrictions, weighing in the balance I'd rather not "get ratings" that way.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv Exactly,C.S. Lewis talked about that remember in his book "Reflections on le Psalms"
that one should not preach as if one is better than the one he is preaching to,this he said is a sin of pride and I think submission to the Carnal side instead of the holy spirit.
Also "I'd rather not "get ratings" that way"-Im not saying play any games like a "soul seller" but to deny access or dialogue to someone would most likely push them from le word of God,which is our purpose, not Balancing act
mybikewantstocrashme 3 months ago
@mybikewantstocrashme Well, if someone is really honestly interested in dialogue, that's why I tell them to go to Theologyweb -- 500 char messages just won't work for what's truly needed for that kind of person. But anyway, when I do my 100th vid you'll see what my main objective here on YT is. It's not quite reaching people...it's something more fundamental and basic that does aid in that, though.
tektontv 3 months ago
@tektontv True, but even from the most "useless" or aggravating encounters, that is to say that we the apologists of they the questioners,by some factor as their only "attacking" or our inability, they will inevitably as will we gain some sort of insight into the objectives we all seek.
I often remember advice that as a child, did "no" good, but when reflected upon, gave great wisdom, perhaps it "did good" only on Gods timetables, not ours;-)

Greathiway 3 months ago
@Greathiway On reflection, I take it you mean "can't" say dirty words, not "can". till not sure what's "telling" though other than perhaps that you may have a problem taking cartoon violence too seriously. I guess you'll next ask why Wile E. Coyote can blow up the Roadrunner but not say the f-word.

Onetruthrgv 3 months ago
@Onetruthrgv It's actually an Allethene...a race from my Annals of Hearthstone webcomic series. The character is from there and has my personality type (INTJ), but is otherwise not like me at all (eg, there, he's a biologist) other than being very happily married to his sweetheart.

Kinda tragic, P&T are usually pretty good at what they do, I love their work on The Endangered species act, Self esteem, and especially PETA.
ThePuppyTurtle 3 months ago
@ThePuppyTurtle I saw them on Babylon 5
iwanttocrashmybike 3 months ago
@ThePuppyTurtle Agreed. I doubt the reasons they gave are the actual reasons P&T are atheists.
It's probably more to do with the problem of evil or that they are naturalists who think that if you can't
prove it with the scientific method then it does not and has never existed.
