This version is far better than the original version. I tried to listen to Sade's for a little perspective, and everything except the singing and lyrics was positively awful. I couldn't listen past the first fifteen seconds.

I absolutely LOVE Sade's version... but Beachwood's cover was PERFECT in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World and I appreciate it in all of it's lo-fi gangster glory. Aaaaamen.

this version is so much better than the sade one idk why neone would think otherwise this one's background music is so much better even if his voice isnt which makes the song overall better and his voice is perfect for the style they are going for

Great cover. Like any great cover they manage to respect the original while still making the song their own. Anyone who says the Sade version is better is missing the point. Of course the original is great, why else would they cover it? It's not a competition - it's an interpretation. That's what covers are. Get a clue people. If you don't like it why post anything at all?

I honestly don't care for Sade's version. Why? Because of my music style. This has a bluesy feel to it, which I love. But I do like the fact there this song is being played by different styles, because then everyone gets to enjoy it. The lyrics are beautifully written with a meaning that I hope I can someday have in my life. Thank you Sade for making the first version and Thank you Beachwood Sparks for making a version in a style I enjoy.

@DeadlyMurmur I disagree. I'm a Sade fan and I really like this cover. It's also really a testament to what a great songwriter Sade is. But I agree, why can't people just enjoy a song? What's with all the bitter comparisons? I'm sure Sade probably likes what they did with it so whats the problem?

i disagree that sade's version is better. it's over-produced in my eyes and much less natural. for people who like the melancholy and slightly raw sound of guitars and mouth organ and stuff like that, THIS is for sure the better version. :)

I've never heard this version before and only came across it by looking for another version by Gayngs, which I 'quite' liked....However, no other version will ever come close to the emotion in Sade's version!...and let's not forget here that the Sade band (Sade Adu, Paul S Denman, Stuart Matthewman and Andrew Hale) wrote this beautiful song in the first place!

I actually thought this was one of the worst covers I've ever heard of ANY song EVER!
