  • This is one of the saddest songs ever made, probably my favorite song of all time, so sad.

  • Why is he sad at the end, what happened to his family?

  • Had to listen to this song twice, sad thing is I had never heard this song before until this Christmas . . . great song.

  • Christmas music stopped playing after this song played last night. It was the last time I'd get to hear it. This song means alot to me. What a great way to end the seasons music with a good song

  • This song brings me so much happyness and pian at the same time every time I hear it I am back at school and lossing the love of my life so long ago and still it hurst miss you Jeffery R.I.P

  • i remeber hearing this last year and for years i have been searching this song!! i finally found it this year in 2011 !! i love the chorus!!

  • This a beautiful song! Every time I hear it, it makes me cry. It's a song that I cud listen to for eternity. Good job!

  • I love this song its so touching

  • i love this song its sad he passed away . one of the very talented musician.

  • the lines that always get me are "she gave a kiss to me as i got out and i watched her drive away just for a moment i was back in school and felt that old familiar pain turned to make my way back home, and the snow turned into rain". to me, those are the most powerful lines in this song.

  • @WendySunVal ~ Me too. Such painful times...

  • @darqueangels :'-(

  • This song reminds me of when my parents were still together and happy. If only I could remember. I tear up every time I hear it. It is such a beautiful song. Rest in peace Dan.

  • Only thing I dislike about this song is that it is only played at Christmas. Other than that, this is a brilliant masterpiece by an underrated genius. This is not a Christmas song and I wish radio stations would stop treating it as if it were. I love this song.....

  • @kmel5150 i know i hate when radio stations do that. Just because it mentions snow and xmas eve

  • @kmel5150 Oh my God, me too! Too many great songs are only played around this time because of what is mentioned in verses or whatever.

  • i love this song alot. it makes me sad :(

  • Such a beutiful song he made such i art in music so nice to listen

  • "The snow turned into rain" That's a powerful line, explaining how vulnerable he felt !!! I love this song so much. R.I.P. Dan

  • What a BEAUTIFUL Song!

What a beautiful Tribute to the beautiful voice and feeling of Dan,

    a Beautiful Artist!!

  • This is just so beautiful.

  • Thanks Dan for sharing an experience in such an eloquent way

  • Beautiful song. i was with my mother in the park when my mom saw her old highschool love (and her only), she was about to talk to him but them a woman kid came and hugged him and a woman kissed him on the lips. My mother hesitated but then she swallowed her heart and went to talk to him.... it was as if they were in highschool again, I had never seen her so happy . We never did see him again.. Then we went home and I turned out the lights I could have sworn I heard my mom crying.

  • @animelovur247 Thanks for the story.......that's the way it is sometime......it's a personal thing and you cry alone

  • Reminds me and my first real love, we still talk after 30 years there will always be a place in my heart for you Dave. Thanks Dan you will stay in my heart RIP

  • Makes me think of an old lover.....we were both young then. Don't know what I would do if I ever bumped into her.

  • I hope I never encounter the two that didn't like this . I feel sorry for them and scared of them at the same time . Scares me to think that this song doesn't touch everyone

  • I listened to this song with my parents during Christmas and suddenly felt grateful for what I have

beautiful song that touches any and all.

  • When I hear this song it reminds me of having my heart broke in school. I've gotten past it of course but the wound never fully heals and there are moments when it comes back and the 'familiar' pain' returns. Dan Folgelberg was a genius to put those feeling into words

  • I'm a 16-year-old boy, and I cry when I hear this song. Hell, any of Dan's songs. He's a genius.

  • The snow turned into rain because he began to cry, thumbs up if you interpret this the same way.

  • This song just guides your emotions from dizzying heights to depressing lows. You experience both joy and sadness. Dan Fogelberg was truly a master of his craft.

  • 12/16/07 the day i had to help my beloved spitz, Mikka to the Rainbow Bridge...made doubly sad when i learned that eve that Mr. Fogelberg had passed that very day...<3

  • Those 2 ppl who disliked this can't read. They were supposed to click the "thumbs up" button not "thumbs down"...

    ilovethissongsomuch<3 <3333333

    RIP Dan Fogelberg </3

  • we can't forget you sir DAN from the very bottom of our hearts...^_^ rest in peace sir DAN...

    .wonderful classic love song

  • A great song thanks. He just had a way of putting the lyrics together that makes you want to listen over and over. R.I.P. Dan you won't be forgotten and neither will your music.

  • Laugh until we cry

  • We drank a toast to our innocence

We drank a toast to now

  • My uncle was one of the recording engineers on this recording. I always thought that was cool

  • DAN FOGELBERG WUZ IS A TRU G, I LUV ALL THIS NIGGA SHIT!!

  • i heard this song driving home from work and it reminded me of my ex gf. i miss u crystal :(

  • I hear this song every year at Christmas. I think it is appropriate anytime. He was such a great writer and singer.

  • Thanks for posting this beautiful classic. The sheet music for the piano part for Dan Fogelberg's "Same Old Lang Syne" can be found at manymidi.com/sheetmusic.htm - a note-for-note transcription.

  • did not know the lord had called dan home dont think he had much of a wait at the gate st.peter sent him right in,this song well last forever,

  • Thanks for posting, but seriously, do we have to censor words in this song? It's like beeping the last lines of Gone with the Wind...

  • truly a beautiful song. We can all relate to the one that we let slip away.

  • Thankful I got to see him live going back and forth from guitar to piano for an hour and a half back in the '80s. He was and still is a blessing to so many. Makes one thankful for all of life!

  • i heard this on the radio and i couldnt rlly understand it and now im watchin the lyrics and its like being told a wonderfully sad story. when it said i watched her drive away i wanted to shout "She's not happy and your miserable! even though u both pretend! damn it fool go after her and dont make the same mistake twice!" but he didnt :,(

  • Sad to know you might of married that girl. But another had instead. The snow turns to rain.Had to wipe my eyes.

  • Who dislikes this song. Like seriously what kind of person cant appreciate this song. The song is so moving.

  • Who dislikes this song... Like seriously what kind of person cant appreciate this song. The song is so moving.

  • Life is too short to waste it waiting on someone! Move on embrace life!

  • The world lost a great singer/songwriter when Dan passed. As a Kentuckian, I think of him every first Saturday in May. He captured the spirit of the Kentucky Derby with his song "Run For The Roses" like no one else could have.

  • I remember listening to this while driving in the backroads of Connecticut during the holidays... It touched me like no other song has (except for Mercy Mercy Me by Marvin Gay). I was sad when I heard he passed. I'm in my early thirties and African American...and this song means a lot to me. That says so much about the universal language music (and art) is.

  • @Badnewz730 I am also African American and I loved this song as a child but I never knew what it was unti about 10 years ago. It reminds me of simpler times. I am 40 and you are right about the universal language of music because this song transcends race and space....

  • This has always been a favorite song of mine. I cannot listen to it without thinking of Dan and his great talent. Thanks for posting. This song lives with me at this time of year -- always has and always will.

  • Merry Christmas, Dan. Thanks for many gifts from you. You're living in our heart. Thanks for upload.

  • R.I.P.

  • My father also had pancreatic cancer but the nonaggressive type. They've just come out with incredible treatments for even the deadliest form of this very common cancer in men. I only wish this great talent could have been saved.

  • Thankyou,

One of his many really touching and beautiful songs.

  • :'(

  • Miss you Dan, saw you several times while in college. This song has always been one of my favorites. God Bless you and rest in peace.

  • Dont know where ive been for the last few years ... but i had no idea this guy passed ' Truly saddened when i found out.

  • I have been looking for this song for two years! I love this song!!!!!

  • it is the first time i have heard this song, and i must say i was truly moved! his lyrics are not only a song, but also tell a story. truly a great musician. i must go and listen to more of his music. May he rest in peace.

  • Me and my mother used to sing this song together when I was a baby around the age 5. I always used to beg her to play it in the car and now i'm 13 and I just found this song again =]

  • Something about the last 2 lines just gets me.

And as I turned to make my way back home

    The snow turned into rain...

  • I wish that this song would be played more on the radio during the rest of the year and not during Christmas. It has nothing to do with the Christmas season.

Glad to have YOUTUBE and I can hear it anytime.

  • @hotfish2101x I guess radio stations figured it had something to do with christmas because it mentions christmas eve

  • never another

  • Twas the night befo' Christmas, and all thru the jail,

Not a con was stirring, none got no bail!

Big Ike was droolin' thru the bars of his cell

Ol Mike was cussin, bangin his head like a bell.

Stoolies were hung from the rafters wit care,

The hacks knew soon the feds would be there!

I was lickin my cellie whar the sun dont shine

An said I';se yo niggah, and dat suits me fine!

  • reminds me of the time i saw my ex after being divorced for 12 years- total shock, this song sums it all up! She was stil the same sweet person I knew then, but our lives had gone totally in opposite directions!

Still I am glad she is happy now, although I will always have a place for her in my heart!

  • @medicdeano sweet

  • I LOVE this. Great job

  • i love this song it makes me cry every christmas. i sing this alot and remember how christmas was instead of it being so commerical. god bless you all and have a blessful christmas

  • @stauffer301 you, too stauffer301, you, too.

  • Beautiful, beautiful. I love Dan Fogelberg and his music

  • @ritadanslove ditto! i also love Harry Chapin among a few others.

  • I fell in love with this song in 2006 when I gave it a good listen to. In 2007 when I heard it at the start of the holiday season I thought to myself, I need to find out who sings this song. I found out who it was when his passing was mentioned on the radio, it blew my mind the timing of it all. An I just found out we share the same bday 30 years apart.

  • Just for a moment " I was back at school, and felt that old familiar pain.." This part of the song it's just awsome

  • There's just something about that makes yearn me for a time when my life simpler.

  • goodbye Dan, wherever you are, i hope you are happy and making beautiful tunes....this particular song of yours touch me....

  • this sickening, tear-jerking drivel disgusts me. sob for the hippie and the drunken trophy wife

  • This is one of the greatest songs about lost loves who find each other after a few years!!!

  • This reminds me so much of my first love 50 years ago. I have never forgotten her. We were so in love at ages 17 and 16. We made wonderful plans for the future. I am totally responsible for not making our future dreams come true.
