Your interpretation of my use of the "system" is incorrect.

The "system" is life. Not the financial system. As a system, life requires the balanced integration of other elements. Society (life) depends upon balance. When one element or part of that system is either too heavily weighted or not weighted enough, the "system" falls apart.

Thus greed for greed's sake creates a disproportionate element which crashes the system. Think "human biology".

the "greed" of the guys on Wall Street in the meltdown was propelled by the greed of everyday people. 4% wasn't good enough so people went into funds. They had a few good years then said "Why can't you give me 10% every year?" Workers want to retire earlier and live better on pensions so returns had to be greater. People expected 10% a year on houses they bought. Not the "greed on Wall Street"--WS just fills the market for greed everywhere.
