  • will this method still work if someone has applied a layer of paint to the wallpaper? it looks like in our kitchen someone may have just put up another layer of wallpaper over the original. they definitely painted over it though.

  • thanks for the info... easier than i would have thought!

  • Thanks Ron

  • @royaladam it's called a scourer or perforator

  • you have to be patient, give the stripper time to do its work

    STRIPPER TIME!

  • What is it called again? The one that looks like a red ball? A wallpaper preparation tool? 0:10

  • The short answer is yes. However, it's important to prepare the paneling first. Probably the simplest way to do this is by applying wall liner, a heavy weight blank paper that will bridge over the paneling grooves and joints. A search for "wall liner" will yield several sources. The product is also carried by Amazon.

  • Can you put walpaper over wood paneling?

  • @dhunter48951 Paneling can be a fire hazard if there's no drywall either over or under it. I'd be inclined to drywall over it in that case, though I'll bet wallpaper would look fine on either.

  • just bought a house with god awful wallpaper in every room! can you believe it. i really hope that this method works as well as it shows it does cause judging by my previous experience with taking down wallpaper... its going to be years before i finish my house

  • @missy52807 same here, i got a house with a red carpet and a pink wallpaper.. :/

  • in my experience, it's easier to just pull the face of the paper off and then spray it with dif.I usually spray it two to three times, once every 10 mins. and the backing peels off clean.Use a bucket of warm water and a sponge to wipe the old glue off, let it dry and you're ready to paint

  • Ron, what can I do with the old paper? Certainly, I cant just roll up some doobies with it, can I?

  • New DIY paint and wallpaper tools:wall shuttle

  • Well just peel of the vinyl top layer and then hot soak the backing off

  • Awesome! Can't wait to get rid of this damn Mickey Mouse border I've got in my room. Thanks!

  • @pethcir LOL dude if you're sleeping in a room with Mickey Mouse wallpaper, I'd say you've got bigger problems than how to take it off the walls :) (sorry I'm just kidding with you, it just made me laugh when I first read your comment)

  • @pethcir OOOOMGGGG! I have this awful RED!!!! Michey MOUSE wallpaper borders in this room I just rent! It's awefull! did you use that methode??? Does vinegar work too?

  • No, I have not, it sounds like it would be worth a try, though. Many of the commercial products use enzymes that actually break down the paste and/or adhesive. The acetic acid in vinegar may do the same thing.

  • Ronhazelton: I saw another site that said vinegar mixed with warm water also works to soak the paper, have you ever tried that?

  • we just use hot water n a wall brush. its alot quicker than doin that . usin that is just lazy

  • test before you use the paper tiger.. You DON"T want to use it on solid vinyl. and don't push too hard.

  • @7downs Come to think of it, you should always test a small area to see if the covering can just be pulled off. Every square inch of paper I pulled from my house came without a tear (good quality paper over rolled paint), but we went through hell getting paper down in my father's house. It would be a shame to waste time on scoring and spraying if one could just pull.

  • the best wallpaper removing formula

    ingredients:

  • water based degreasers work the best to absorb into the paper. use gloves and ventilate the area. DIF is for the do it your self consumer. Pros dont use it.

  • Other than the information you give is great, I love your voice and the calm way you talk, it make the job sound easier already. Thanks.

  • Yes, patience is key. I like to say let the chemicals do all (or most) of the work.

  • pretty cool. definitely don't rush, been there, done that. royal pain in the ----!
