Fuck every useless twerp that compares such phenomenons as The Roots to Lil'Wayne for the sake of an opinion... I know I speak for the majority of people who've visited this page in saying that we don't come here to read complaints or opinions on other Artist's.. if you are going to have such an opinion at least keep it positive towards The Roots rather than subconsciously promoting the fame of Lil'wayne for better or worse.
This just brings me right back to HS. I liked the jazzy flava. Also I got down wit Tribe Called Quest "The Jazz". Big ups to Pete Rock and Large Professor for starting a movement in the rap world!
this is honestly so damn nice right now...that i wish i didnt turn it on. because its late...ive gotten no sleep in over 33hrs (long story)...and now im just getting lost w/ this. already in a dream or something.
When you have a live band, you can do this. They are just as dope live than on plastic. I remember having my hands on some cuts from this cd back in 93. They did a remix of this cut over seas. I had it in 93. I know i did.
Listen I hear everyone on this . I luv the roots but lil Wayne is okay too. Rap can not stay static. It has to evolve. People who can't stand lil Wayne remind me of every musical change.. some got to hate it at first. Same thing with Kanye a few years ago. I love the old and some of the new
@742hope lil wayne is ok music can change and will . I will say music from the 50 -60's like love songs are better than new school ones that is why thereis SOOO man remakes not to say that there isnt good music now but lil wayne cant compare to the roots. Roots are stimulating and play with LIVE instruments. Roots are a league of their own. There was people like soulja boy back in the 90's groups that cater to the young like Kris kross, there was MC hammer but hip hop didnt respected them.
I agree rap can't stay static, music rarely does. However, I don't think mainstream hip hop has evolved with Wayne's rise to prominence. Not only has he tarnished it in my opinion but mainstream rap will remain the same as long as he's popular. There's no variety to his tracks and yet people continue to lap it up like it's quality.
@74uptownNi66a14 I'm really sorry I disagree. Way back when when hiphop sounded bland and almost everything sounded the same. These guys pushed the boundaries, they showed hiphp doesn't have to be about material, shallow shit it can have a soul. The roots pay attention to the music as well as the lyrics, after all this time they still grow. In my humble opinon these guys are amazing. Please bear in mind this album was made in 1994 i think.
@74uptownNi66a14 you're trippin straight balls for saying that. you know good and well there were tons of cd's relased in the 90's that were just as good as illmatic. and if not better. nigga your'e talking about the 90's(AkA the goldenage of Hip Hop)
@reggiejr81 every classic hip hop song i go to on youtube people are always talkin about lilwayne hes not on this track so talking about him ps lil wayne is shit
@reggiejr81 duuudeeee rite? idk wut up with tha world today i fukn hate lil wayne fukin drake all that fukin bullshit all my friends say im stuck in tha past cuz all i listen to is 90s

i LOVE the effect that is heard throughout the beat (example would be 0:39 - 0:42 ) the voice that slightly echoes.
Whenever I hear something like that in a jazzy beat like this, i cant help but take a trip down memory lane while sparking some trees.
IDK what it is about effects like that...it adds a lot of flavor to this beat.
The Roots are legendary.
