Just to clarify a common misconception, the indefinite detention provisions in the NDAA which was passed absolutely can be applied to American citizens.
"The exemption for American citizens from the mandatory detention requirement (section 1032) is the screening language for the next section, 1031, which offers no exemption for American citizens from the authorisation to use the military to indefinitely detain people without charge or trial."

@john25rs2001 basically, what they mean by requirement, to detain a captured prisoner, you have to fill out a detention form and get the REQUIRED stamp of approval by the US president...if they don't get approved stamp, they go to tribunal court (military court)...now, if that stamp of approval cannot be extended to citizens of US, obviously, you get the right to trial and due process of law...just as it is stated in the constitution...
And naturally, Obama signed it into law without batting an eye. Has anyone ever used the restrooms in the US capital? I'm just wondering if the toilet paper there has copies of the Constitution printed on it...

@NeoXC No, the FBI was investigated over violations of peoples' civil rights. The violations in question aren't allowed by the Patriot Act, and to my knowledge, the FBI hasn't tried to defend itself by citing that the Patriot Act gave them the authority.

You know, For the longest time I called people who bad mouthed the Govt. and painted them to be some shadowy police state hiding behind patriotism a bunch of paranoid idiots who had no idea what they were taking about. But now, after seeing NDAA and SOPA passing so quickly in congress, and the Media's utter SILENCE about both of these frightening bills, I don't call them paranoid anymore. If these bills aren't removed, we WILL become a police state.

I know a lot of people will see this as a lighthearted comment, but seriously, we need a rebellion. I'm not saying grab your guns and lets go wreak havoc in D.C., but I am saying that we can't stand for this any longer. Just to clarify a common misconception, the indefinite detention provisions in the NDAA which was passed absolutely can be applied to American citizens.
"The exemption for American citizens from the mandatory detention requirement (section 1032) is the screening language for the next section, 1031, which offers no exemption for American citizens from the authorisation to use the military to indefinitely detain people without charge or trial."

No, they can't detain you w/o trial, it specifically states on p. 265-266 of the bill (p. 265: this section does not affect or construe the existing law of the U.S. citizenship detention (basically, what is stated in the constitution itself, so this whole section of void of that argument)...and p. 266 states "requirements of detention does not extend to citizens of United States"

@john25rs2001 basically, what they mean by requirement, to detain a captured prisoner, you have to fill out a detention form and get the REQUIRED stamp of approval by the US president...if they don't get approved stamp, they go to tribunal court (military court)...now, if that stamp of approval cannot be extended to citizens of US, obviously, you get the right to trial and due process of law...just as it is stated in the constitution...
