how to create or delete an admin user account in windows 7, xp, vista

I made a standard user account on accident on day and now I am trying to delete it. I tried making it into an admin but it says that the user name couldn't be found any time I try it.

(in windows xp proffesional) when the windows boots up and you need to type username and password. just type the name of the account winch u created example dinesh in username then you can start new user account now.
