I have not seen Laurie Cabot's videos, but I'll tell you something that you totally screwed up with your rant. Wicca IS a religion and I totally agree with you as I am Wiccan too. However, if you really know about our gentle path with the Goddess, you know that the Crone is honored by us. Calling someone and OLD BAT is so NOT philosophy we adhere to and teach. We are to "Harm None" and the best way to show others that our religion and belief system is a beautiful one is to be an example.
I met Laurie Cabot twice. The first time was years back. I had lost all my money and was about to end up in the street. I went to her and asked her for a spell. She said I had to make an appointemnt and pay a fee of $200 just for a consultation. If I had $200 I would not have bothered her. The second time I met her was at a pagan gathering in AZ. Every other thing she said was "buy my ___" I use to think myself Wiccan but after that I could not. While she may mean well, she lost her way.

I'm not defending Ms. Cabot, I didn't hear what you heard in her video that "Wicca isn't a religion" but for the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, Buddhism is considered by law a religion but Buddihists consider it a philosophy or a state of being. Origin of the word "wicca" aside, as many people already corrected this, I think you can learn something from everyone. Even if it's just a new perspective. Cabot's history is a bit off, but she does have decent information on hermetic laws and the why's of how certain things work in a more scientific explanation. Whether you agree with you or not, she's a pioneer. She even inspired my current favorite author,Christopher Penczak. Highly recommend him.

Laurie is a devout witch and practicionare. Though she doesn't know everything. Wicca is a branch of the religion: Paganism, mostly circling (bad pun) around teachngs of witchcraft or spiritual practices, wicca is in fact classed as a religion, just like Catholicism is with Christianity. Much like Druidism, Odinism, Kemetism etc, each religion is a tree and each tree has its own branches.

I had to write this separately because of the limit. She is not trying to say that it is not a religion, just that the 'correct' term for it is Witchcraft. As I said before, this is true to some extent. Historically, witchcraft was quite different from 'Wicca' and it was not necessarily a religion, which is why we now call Gardner's version of witchcraft "Wicca". Gardner himself seldom used the word Wicca. In fact he spelled it 'Wica' and it was not used the same way it is today.
Um, if you actually knew anything about it, the stuff she says in the video you posted is accurate. Wicca was originally called Witchcraft and the people who followed it called themselves Witches. Any book written by the founder of it (Gerald Gardner), or anyone initiated by him, refers to it as Witchcraft. Over time the religion has become known as Wicca and followers are known as Wiccans. However, as Laurie stated, 'wicca' originally meant a male witch, and 'wicce' denoted a female witch.

Cabot claims to be part of an "ancient, secret religion of witches" and history has proven no such thing exists. Ravenwolf tells kids to hide their practice and lie to their parents about if they don't approve of it. I have not seen Laurie Cabot's videos, but I'll tell you something that you totally screwed up with your rant. Wicca IS a religion and I totally agree with you as I am Wiccan too. However, if you really know about our gentle path with the Goddess, you know that the Crone is honored by us. Calling someone and OLD BAT is so NOT philosophy we adhere to and teach. We are to "Harm None" and the best way to show others that our religion and belief system is a beautiful one is to be an example.

I met Laurie Cabot twice. The first time was years back. I had lost all my money and was about to end up in the street. I went to her and asked her for a spell. She said I had to make an appointemnt and pay a fee of $200 just for a consultation. If I had $200 I would not have bothered her. The second time I met her was at a pagan gathering in AZ. Every other thing she said was "buy my ___" I use to think myself Wiccan but after that I could not. While she may mean well, she lost her way.

I'm not defending Ms. Cabot, I didn't hear what you heard in her video that "Wicca isn't a religion" but for the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, Buddhism is considered by law a religion but Buddihists consider it a philosophy or a state of being. Origin of the word "wicca" aside, as many people already corrected this, I think you can learn something from everyone. Even if it's just a new perspective. Cabot's history is a bit off, but she does have decent information on hermetic laws and the why's of how certain things work in a more scientific explanation. Whether you agree with you or not, she's a pioneer. She even inspired my current favorite author,Christopher Penczak. Highly recommend him.

Laurie is a devout witch and practicionare. Though she doesn't know everything. Wicca is a branch of the religion: Paganism, mostly circling (bad pun) around teachngs of witchcraft or spiritual practices, wicca is in fact classed as a religion, just like Catholicism is with Christianity. Much like Druidism, Odinism, Kemetism etc, each religion is a tree and each tree has its own branches.

I had to write this separately because of the limit. She is not trying to say that it is not a religion, just that the 'correct' term for it is Witchcraft. As I said before, this is true to some extent. Historically, witchcraft was quite different from 'Wicca' and it was not necessarily a religion, which is why we now call Gardner's version of witchcraft "Wicca". Gardner himself seldom used the word Wicca. In fact he spelled it 'Wica' and it was not used the same way it is today.

Um, if you actually knew anything about it, the stuff she says in the video you posted is accurate. Wicca was originally called Witchcraft and the people who followed it called themselves Witches. Any book written by the founder of it (Gerald Gardner), or anyone initiated by him, refers to it as Witchcraft. Over time the religion has become known as Wicca and followers are known as Wiccans. However, as Laurie stated, 'wicca' originally meant a male witch, and 'wicce' denoted a female witch.

Cabot claims to be part of an "ancient, secret religion of witches" and history has proven no such thing exists. Ravenwolf tells kids to hide their practice and lie to their parents about if they don't approve of it. Ravenwolf is also quite nasty to Christians, and to people who practice different crafts, and to those who criticize her and her works.

Really it dosent matter wether you call it wicca, shamin, blah blah. A witch is a witch, we life our lifestyle in perfect love and trust. And maybe you should do some studying, because the name of our religion was established by gov. The only way we would be recognized as religious ppls. is if we were under a name. Now the traditions like gardener and farie are names set up from beginning of the tradition, but Wicca is just to give ppl. a basis of what in general type witches we are. blessed be

It is because of people like Laurie that we can be ourselves and folks like Selena Fox who fought for our enlisted people to be able to have Pentacles on their tombstones and practice openly. I remember when folks felt that they had to be secretive. Not me, I wore a huge pentacle as well as a cape in cooler weather. I used it as an opportunity to educate people. Yes, I lost friends and family, but if they couldn't accept me then that was their problem and their loss

I just went to Laurie Cabot channel, holly hel, she looks more like a side-show then anything. I'm not a wiccan, but why some people think that they need to travel to Salem Mass. to find a witch, I will never understand... I think that's why she looks and opens shop there is that if someone is going to relocate to take her classes, she already got them halfway suckered in. But ya I think she is nothing more then a sideshow playing trick-or-treat, and does it at the expanse of a religion.

Wicca is definetly a religion.
I wish there were not so many dividers in our community but there are.
There are so many levels of seperation that Wicca is almost becoming like a hierarchy.
I also wish the majority of Salem Witches were really serious about the faith instead of just selling it for profit.
