  • where in brooklyn did you guys live?

  • Just south of Park Slope.

  • hi sweetie, can you tell me who does the first track of this video and, i love when you do videos like this.

  • It's a band called Cursive. I forget the song but it is on the album "the ugly organ".

  • GHETTO LIFE!

  • Brooklyn in this vid reminds me of Toronto, I wish I could go one day and check it out, looks cool.

  • Nice Video! That must been a long bike ride! How many miles did you log on that day?

  • Im from TX. Rite now im a teen that goes to high school currentky. I fuckin hate Texas! and NEW YORK is in my mind. I cant wait to move to Brooklyn myself. I would love to stroll myself everywhere and sometimes ride my bike around the city. But I want to know if they have a lot of friendly people in New York because Round Rock(The city I currently reside in) is infested with rude people and drivers it makes me slap those bastards.

  • New York City, like any city or town, has really nice people as well as total jerks. They're probably in the same percentages as most other towns, but when you consider that 8 million people live within the city limits, there are just a lot more people to fit into those categories. But, I do think it is better (way better) than texas.

  • coollllll

  • I love to ride in the city.

  • Me too... but it is so crazy sometimes. I was going through chinatown last year on my way to work and this truck opened their door onto my back and gave me this huge scrape up my shoulder blades. I think they did it on purpose too...

  • i miss the 5 boroughs so much

    :[

  • Thank you for this little tour :). Always thought it was a good idea to share the places we know this way. I have to do that some day!

Also, I didn't know "Cursive - The Recluse", liked it.

    Take care <3.

A guy from Lyon, France ;).

  • Whenever I'm up in New York

I always try to get over to Brooklyn,

Grimaldi's has the best pizza on the planet

and The Brooklyn Icecream Factory has the best icecream and view of Manhattan,

And Coney Island is a must see,

At least until they redevelop it.

  • No. Not Grimaldi's. How about DiFara's on Avenue J right next to the Q train station. or L&B Spumoni Gardens( best sicilian slice int he city, personally my favorite, regardless) and totonno's in coney island

  • I haven't been by DiFara's or L&B Spumoni Gardens yet I'll give them both a try though thanks for the tip, Totonno's is great although be sure to take straight cash traveler's checks and credit cards are a no can do.

  • Coney Island's Astroland is now closed eh?

    Thanks Thor thanks alot.

  • i loved this one!!! thank you, erin. you have talent.

  • You will have to do more like that one. Fun.

  • fun!

  • 5star!!!!

  • Hi there , Brooklyn bike cowboys ! Lived in N.Y.c for a couple of years , and never even once went to Bkln . So thanks for the tour . Place looks more suburban than I´d imagined

and maybe a bit run down too ?

Do you know , are there many Swedish/Scandinavian families living in Brooklyn ?

  • There are whole neighborhoods of swedish and scandinavian families.

Also, it depends on where you go... If you are down by the waterfront where it used to be fishing ports there isn't much left anymore, but if you're in downtown, or williamsburg or green point or park slope or fort greene or any of those areas it is as nice if not nicer than manhattan.

  • That´s very interesting information , Grishno .

Thanks for answering ! Keep posting and keep in touch !

    Signed

    Swedish Pete / Hemulen /

  • That looks like 3rd Avenue, Bklyn.

  • Ya, we were on there for a while... around 36th street... nothing but craziness there... but we had to take it to get over to 2nd ave which is a much better ride.

  • I love NY...mostly up state.San Francisco is fun...Loved the Haight...North Park,a long time ago...The bay to breakers run walk costume party.Girl...You're gonna love it...It's the cats meow!!!Lots of fun clubs.Your sis from San Diego...oh and this place rocks...Hottest women on Earth,Venus,& beond come here...There all from somewhere, but there here now...on the hot sunny beaches,up & down the gaslamp streets.

  • i just love your vids i"m going to new york next week and you have been a great tour giude thank you

    john from dublin

  • nice video love it. so u live NYC. nice i live in missouri lol way far from there lol nothing but farmlands but got a vid somewhat like this check it baby. peace out subribe if ya like I DID 5 star for sure peace out.

  • Hey, thanks for the post. I love videos like this...always love to get a first person perspective. I haven't really seen much of the world; the Internet is just sort of my lens.

  • Great thing the internet. I can relate... i have never been out of the USA. Not because I'm in love with the US or anything, just haven't gotten around to it. But I get to see all kinds of things from all over the world on here... oh the day and age we live in... it's wonderful.

  • Erin/others: Allow me to shout to the sky because as a post-op TS woman who cannot get her Ohio birth certificate changed, I applied for a passport and just got word from the State Dept that it has been approved and will come on Sept 18. I will finally have some legally valid ID with my current name and sex. Yay! Now I can also travel beyond the U.S!

  • Girl...I hear ya!It don't come easy.Power to ya girl,from 100% kittycat too...meow !

  • Ah, yes, another city that has a beach. I still think San Francisco is a cooler city than NYC, but it does not have the Cyclone. If you'd come to SF you'd still have your headband. Watch our for Santa Cruz Boardwalk though! At least SF doesn't get that nasty snow!!!

  • Ya ya, brag it up... I've seen snow in San Fran. And I'm actually kinda planning to move to SF on day. It would probably be a couple of years but Morgan and I think that's where we're headed to next... so watch you SF... we're coming.

  • Erin: I can't wait to come and visit NYC. How exciting! Yeah it snowed in SF like once in a 100 years!! You and Morgan would have to get used to chillier weather in the summertime...other than that, it's a little piece of Heaven here. SF would be lucky to have you both.

  • Kewl view, thanks for the ride :-)

  • You're welcome.

  • Thanks Erin...I lived in Gerritsen Beach/ Sheepshead Bay few years back...thanks for the Fun trip...!

And is Nathan's still open?...mmmm that Chowder!

  • Nathans is still open. I think you can catch a glimpse of them for a second towards the end of the ride... but ya they're still around. I haven't done much around sheeps head bay, is there anything good out there to do?

  • Sheepshead Bay was the site of my only Soprano-esque encounter with a liquor store guy offering contacts for 'wack' of anyone who was annoying me!!

Checking out the neighborhood scene...some nice local pubs/bars-

Gerrittsen is a homey, traditional mostly Irish/Italian neighborhood...great local color...and occasinal brush with Interesting Persons!

  • Preconcieved notion vs reality: I was thinking Brooklyn would be like New York City, very tall buildings packed tightly together and wall to wall people. Your video showed me what seemed more like an average city with average size buildings. Thanks for the educational ride and tour. Just watch out for all the idiot drivers!

  • That is why I love Brooklyn. It's just like this little city where there aren't any tourists and it's just people living... you can get the best cheescake in the work here too... oh my god it's like an orgasm in your mouth, but that is besides the point. Glad you liked it.

  • cool vid. i hope to see more soon. take care u.

  • Whenever I think of NYC, I think of people packed together like sardines. You know, like in Soylent Green.

  • Depends on where you are. Brooklyn is very nice but manhattan is all crowded and touristy.

  • The standard of driving is as bad as London but at least you have a beach! Give me a couple of years I'm coming over to live there! :D

  • Ya, drivers here are jerks, but on the plus side, it is quicker to take the subway than to drive... people that drive in nyc are chumps.

  • I agree...I drive in NY when I am in town and i am a chump so her assertion is correct :) Living there it would make no sense to own a car.

  • hee hee watched i it again. cool :-)

  • That was a nice ride. Makes me want to visit New York now.

  • That's how it starts... then you come here and before you know it you're living here... that's what happened to me.

  • now, i wanna go to Broooklyn !

  • Congrats on your journey.

  • awesome post. how did you do the special affect at around 1.20? :)

  • adobe premiere... i just layerd two different sections of the video on top of eachother and then played with the opacity of the top layer.

  • Hooray for Premiere! :)

  • ah, very cool. i need to one day get my act together and figure out how to use one of those things. :)

  • cool...

  • awsome sis luv the vid

  • i loved the camera mount for the bike, it glided grate in most shots. i havent ridden a bike for years due to my epilepcy, this vid was like a breath of fresh air. thanks erin

  • Anytime. I hope there will be more in the future.

  • love it :-) big smile and you even got in a roller coaster .jealous

funny creep used to be my singalong driving song :-)

    all the best crissy

  • Glad you liked it! It's not as good as yours but I tried.

  • nice vid liked the ride, beete the car thing anytime

  • How great to join you on a ride round some parts the tourists don't get to see, in a nice green non-polluting way. Not like some of those HUGE 4x4 gas guzzlers encountered on the streets. The rollercoaster was awsome. Cheers Erin!

    Best wishes, Louise

  • Thanks Louise, glad you enjoyed it.

  • Awesome! I'm nauseous after that roller coaster ride, but it was still awesome.

  • Think how I feel. :P

  • All you crazy yanks drive on the wrong side of the road!! It's a wonder there's not more accidents!

I love cycling tho...i've a folding bike that lives in the boot of my car and I go for wee bike adventures all the time :-) So how far to the beach?

  • 8 miles... or as you crazy folks across the pond might say ... 12 kilometers... i think. I am just doing the math in my head so i could be very wrong.

  • Eeeek to much concrete LOL. That is pretty neat though. I think your vids are as close as I will get to the city that large. ^_^

  • It's not all concrete and craziness... one day i'll take a ride through prospect park by my house and you'll see the more beautiful side of brooklyn... but, nothing even close to the country.

  • You should have totally took that guy on the bike out, have some self-respect, k?

  • hmmmm, between the holes there must be a street somewhere ^^

  • Haha, ya, they don't like putting bike paths on the new roads... oh well, i think it is super cool to be riding over roads that are so old they are still half cobble stone and have all kinds of abandoned trolley car rails on them.

  • This is SOOO COOL!!! What was the first song? It was great.

  • Cursive is the name of the band, which I would definitely recommend, and the name of the song is The Recluse.

  • my father was born there.....prospect ave

  • Strange, I thought Coney Island would be more...you know, coney.

    With cones.

  • If only that were the case...

  • Don't take this the wrong way or anything, but that greyish or silverish van almost hit yall. That's scary. How many miles was that? Interesting video. So that was what Coney Island looks like. Yall look like yall had some fun.

  • It was about 8 miles or so and I almost got hit 2 or 3 times... comes with riding a bike in the city... keeps you on your toes though.

  • Isit true that they're tearing down the cyclone?

  • They may be. Astroland, the amusement park that owns the cyclone was bought last year and the day after I was there was it's last day open. I think they are fighting to keep the cyclone open though.

  • I liked your other video camera better. Looked like a fun day!

  • Don't worry, the old camera is still around... but it is much nicer so i didn't want to use it on my bike in case of a fall.

  • GREAT VIDEO!! Very cool...I commute on bike to werk when the weather permits...commuted to werk in Minneapolis, Madison, Milwaukee...and mountain and road bike in northern Wisconsin when living there....I was born in New York...someday I want to return...thank you for this video.

  • Wow, I couldn't ride my bike through the city without losing a limb. Good job, Erin!

  • Practice... lost of practice.

  • ha, i like how they tell you to stay seated on the cyclone, like standing is ever a good idea on a rollercoaster.

  • Seems like a good idea.

  • haha, kewlioes =3

  • I went on the cyclone and lost my cell phone! It was fun I guess, but it is so bumpy they should give you aspirin when you get off.

  • That's a great idea... I'll make a fortune.

  • Wow you certainly live in a concrete jungle!

  • awesome sauce!

  • Whoohoo I'm the first to watch the new vid! Yay me!!!

  • lol
