This movie was from the Cold War era, and what happened was New York City was destroyed by a nuclear blast which brought about the downfall of man and rise of the apes

Also, it was to send a message to the audience of dangers of a nuclear war

The familiar constellations would tell him that he couldn't be far from where he started. Even a few light years movement would change many constellations into unrecognizable forms.

Surely a reasonable person must have been almost certain it was Earth because English was the language spoken by the civilisation throughout the film? Why would they speak English on a distant planet with no knowledge of Earth?

@19adam87 I would think its more likely that the apes would have developed their own language rather than English in the first place. Its a convenient plot hole, I guess the film would be too difficult to follow if Taylor had to figure out what the hell the apes were grunting about.

@Nickelodeon81 Agreed, though maybe the first intelligent apes were able to decipher the texts from the ancient human civilisation and base that as their language, That's plausable. 2 identical languages developing from different planets is less so, and as Charlton Heston I would have smelled a rat! But maybe I'm looking too far into this, haha.

@Nickelodeon81 youd think so but we see that they were taught english to serve humans as slaves in conquest of the planet of the apes, when they revolted and took over. I guess its reasonable that they kept that language. But youd think they would despise english and create their own later. Or already have their own means of communication.

@19adam87 even if they started out speaking English after nearly 3000 years it would be unrecognizable to taylor.if you went back in time 1000 yrs to England you wouldn't have a clue what they were saying but it would be classed as English.

@19adam87 That's a silly objection really, because the language is completely arbitrary. The only reason English is used is because (presumably) most people would rather listen to actors than read subtitles for 2 hours, and (presumably) the film-makers would rather use a language that already exists than create an entire dialect from scratch just to resolve a minor detail. It's the job of the spectator to imagine that it's a different language, even if they're hearing otherwise.

Wars dont end w/ thousands troops in the military theater in a few weeks. The repugnicants wanted these wars that Bush started. Obama inherited the mess of Bush/Cheny/Republican congress.
