  • Any software out there that can do this? Like turn mp3 into MIDI voice? I know it's possible, I've even heard Nintendo games speak.

  • LOL - POLISHANS

  • i wish i could get a midi file for this so i could change it around to other more resonant sounding instruments and see if it would sound better

  • make it say ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US

    lololol

  • der hitla

  • creepiest thing ive ever seen.

  • Derka derka derka derka...

  • The composer at 1:54 looks like an Oompa Loompa...

  • GLaDOS Version 1

  • thats is scary shit

  • I think I can hear it say something...

    "KILL ME. KILL ME."

  • terrifying.

  • great, now make it rap

  • @RAz211 It would only need three keys.

  • i've seen that on ars electronica in Linz(austria) it was great

  • Well no wonder it's hard to understand, the kid he chose to narrate has a hard enough time pronouncing it in the first place. It'd probably be more language-like if it was just done in german, or with a native english-speaker.

  • do you have the sheet music for this... piece?

  • AAAAH!!! ANONYMOUS HAS POSSESED A PIANO

  • tabs?

  • I'd like to hear this played out on a pipe organ.

  • So this is what you get if a Dalek and GLaDOS have children...

  • Did anyone else think that it said executors instead of educators?

  • EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

  • soon...

  • Close your eyes and don't read the words put on the screen. Can you understand the piano? I think there's a little bit of pareidolia involved here, but it's still cool.

  • @TheResidentSkeptic Yes. They say as much more than a couple of times in the video without using the scientific term.

  • glados as a baby...

  • German tv rocks :D

  • its a dalek!

  • They should have that in a episode of Dr Who

  • Make it say "My ROFL Copter goes SOI SOI SOI SOI SOI" :D

  • That voice creeps me out!!

  • Imagine a virtual AI talking to you through this piano. Creepy.

  • Is there a version of this where you can only hear the piano, and not all the people speaking?

  • "We declare that we are all responsible"

    Hey but...

    "WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE"

    "WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE"

And your ears start to bleed and "WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE"

And then you die and you hear "WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE" for the rest of eternity.

  • This will kill us all.

"For saving and protecting our mother earth"

And then BANG! your ass is dead.

  • Das Boot

  • the 1st version of glados xD

  • Machiens have started to take over ohhh no RUN!

  • Why would they use a lisping mumbling twelve year old to model the voice? Why not start with a voice you can understand so that the piano voice could then be understood?

  • Vsauce2 sent me

  • now make it speak like GLaDoS

  • The birth of SkyNet......

  • Verdammt, das ist extrem cool... und gruselig.

  • This should be in a horror video game

  • Am I the only one who is mortally terrified by this?

  • I for one welcome our new piano overlords.

  • talking piano for president in 3014

  • меня пугает)

спишь так, и вдруг пианина ночью начинает матюкаться)

  • gler gempak!!!

  • It's the power of suggestion, really.

  • IIIIIIHH! Make it say "Nuclear Vessels" :D

  • It's strange, I want to be impressed but...I just keep waiting for it to yell "Exterminate!"

  • 面白い実験です。日本語は如何?

  • おーまーえーわー、あーほーかー、

  • @mlguitar3000 genial :D

  • creepy!

  • THIS IS INSANE

  • O_o

  • id love that piano to talk dirty to me ;)

  • @Pacifiesta You do realise that this piano you want talking dirty is emulating the voice of a young boy? ;D

  • @Pacifiesta Just listen to the last seconds of the video again but this time imagine you are a politician. Then it talked dirty to you

  • I think it's just "placebo". When you read the text you easily imagine that's what the piano is saying. Try listening to it without reading the subtitles

  • --i wanna hear more of the piano

  • It's like it's from a Doctor Who episode.

  • Next, the speaking barbeque.

  • Freaky

  • Those germans. Always a step ahead of everyone.

  • This is no big deal for me.

  • @Charles33333 well, yeah

  • This is not new. The first player pianos had exactly he same thing, levers that pressed down the keys, Because all pianos were ethe same, it worked at first by puvping a bellows, and then with a motore attatched to the vbellows. I couldn*t

  • And a real plus for the English subtitle!

  • my mind is blown.

  • true analog vocoder

  • You can find the whole piece on composer Ablinger's homepage by googling for

    'deus cantando'.

  • Another world IS possible!

Thanks for sharing this amazing video

    Cheers John

  • And another I found:

"Until the mid-18th century electricity was little more than a parlor trick used to delight kings and amaze crowds. One such itinerant “electrician” aroused Benjamin Franklin’s curiosity, and he embarked on a series of experiments that would “snatch lightning from the sky,” opening up the new field of electrical science and ultimately making possible all of the electrical conveniences on which we depend today."

  • @DopeMcDoperson Hey, I don't appreciate being called that. You could have responded nicely and backed your statement up if you thought I was wrong.

And I quote Benjamin Franklin "The greatest known effects of common lightning may, I think, without much difficulty, be exceeded in this way, which a few years since could not have been believed, and even now may seem to many a little extravagant to suppose"

Google "electricity" and "curiosity", "toy", or "parlor trick" if you need more proof.

  • @DopeMcDoperson Another pointless curiosity? That's what they said about electricity when it came out. I'd be careful.

  • Freaky :/

  • Que triste, hasta un piano pronuncia en inglés mejor que yo

  • Be interesting to see how this system handles piano music being played through it. Just out of curiosity, how it interprets the sound.

  • does Austria love his piano that much O.o *Hetalia fans eat your heart out

  • Another World is possible...

  • This is so freaking awesome! Glad my EE120 professor showed us this link.

  • "We are all reshponshible..."

  • ( Д) ゜゜

  • Genius.

  • thats creepier than shit

  • that sounds soooo scary

  • This is in theory a modernized Vorsetzer (a keytop device to play a piano invented around the turn of the century prior to the internal mechanized player piano). It is remarkable to hear with this modern technology and solenoids the human voice through the piano. But I still bet it would play a great performance of a player piano roll MIDI :)

  • So, am I only hearing the piano keys being played very fast so at to represent the voice, or is some audio overlayed? How about the sibilant sounds? It's very impressive, especially if it's all just from the acoustic instrument!

  • @DrEMplushrest I guess it works the same way that a Fourier transform uses multiple sine waves to emulate more complex waves... Here they are using the superposition of piano notes to best match the recorded wave of the kids voice. But what I don't get is... sine waves are quite easy to manipulate, but pianos are very complicated. How did they model things like sympathetic resonance, if the people at Yamaha can't do it (realistically) for digital pianos? Anyway I think this is impressive.

  • nightmare for life

  • DUDEEEEE Imagine if someone could play the piano and make it talk like that. That would be great.

  • @BlikeNave He'd need a shit load of fingers.

  • @glock16 hahaha nahhhh just get them toes in there. But really dude imagine two piano players playing words for you. Tell me that wouldn't BLOW YOU away (it'd blow me away for sureeeeeeeeeeeee).

  • So has anyone though of the possibilities. We could give robots or machines a type of vocal chords, so they can communicate through words directly not through some emulation of the language. We could make them understand the sound of natural language!!!

  • @maaseru Ofcourse we could just give them speach synthesis engines and speach recognition software that has been around for over a decade :)

  • @kickofighto FAR more then a decade... more like 5 or 6 decades

  • I want to have a piano like this in my house, but mix it with an artificial intelligence program so that I can talk to my piano and have conversations and shit. I'd want it to greet all my guests and residents by nicknames. HOW SICK WOULD THAT BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • Henry Lowengard did this with a Yamaha DX7 some time ago. The speaking piano has the allure of being a familiar mechanical device, but it's the same principle. Very eerie, very cool.

  • @doctornerve can you please give a link or info about Lowengard's project, I'm doing a similar project for my final year engineering degree and would really appreciate any extra info

  • @bababeet echo net slash ~jhhl slash Mp3 slash RGS

  • i want it . it's good

  • That awesome and creepy!

  • How does that work?

    Can music speak?

  • huhi am wearing red undies lol don't ask meh why i am telling you this

  • lol its kinda creepy, but awesome and the same time

  • incredible.

  • Brilliant!!

  • Einfach brilliant!

  • Fiffig!
