My next door neighbor has a yellow '32 ford with a 350 chevy in it, beautiful car all around: looks, sound..... My 347ci 5.0 makes 100+rwhp more though! But I am jealous of his RELIABLE hot rod ;).
If I owned a car like this, out of a strong sense of social justice, I'd go around giving keys to motel rooms to guys I figured would never get laid until the day they laid them in the coffin. No sheet!
from :20 to :24 the license plate number reads THX1138. Lucas' first film title, starring Robert Duval as THX1138. Sci-fi movie about an underground, overpopulated future. Sex is outlawed and emotion suppressing, endurance inducing drugs are mandatory for all citizen/workers. The guy's female room mate stops taking her meds and replaces THX's meds with pacebos. They fall in love/lust and become wanted for the crimes of sexual intercourse and drug evasion. It's a pretty good movie
JOHN MILNER WILL NEVER BE BEAT. wow he is really fast . Yeah but he is stupid. showed later on milner kept his cool falfer trying to show off trying to hard ended up recking it
Sweet Mary Mother of God, I swear, I was listening to music, and when I clicked on this video, the same song came on iTunes, at the same time! I am shocked... anyway, great song, great video..
After this movie aired for the first time in theatres, I bought a Revell model of a 55 chevy and painted it black..and had chrome wheels...that was before I could drive a car of course!
i've had a gang of hot rods over the years including a 31 model a. trust me, they are cool but you wouldn't want to go over 100 miles in one they are tiny inside. one of my favorite movies
i get goosebumps when i see this car, then i get butterflys and sorta of a sick feeling, because i want this car,, i have wanted it since the movie hit the theatres,,,, i was a punk kid and saw the movie 13 times,,,i would faint if i could see this car in real and to meet Milner { Paul Le Mat} in real,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yikes, get the smelling salts
a 327 is fine for this era... 327 came out in 1962... the movie was set in 1962. "where were you in '62?" Toad also braggs that Steve's 58 chevy has a "327 chevy, with 6 strombergs"
it isn't era correct zurinator but i've always heard that it was a 327 chevy small block. one fun fact though, is that even though they weren't too concerned about the year of the engine the 327 was actually released after the movie was supposed to take place. another one is that falfa's chevy, had a 454, which was released much later than the movie took place.
@thing503 You're definitely correct. Could you clarify what year the movie took place. The first year for 327cid was 1962, 427 (non L88) 1963. I remember the 1965 big block Cobra and the Vietnam troop build up began about 1964 so I'm thinking the 327cid vs 427cid is conceivable. Really though, the bad guy in black should have been running a Hemi, LOL.
@10mak01 the only 427 chevys around in '63 were under the hoods of a very few highly favored professional racers like the limited edition W motors for drag racing & the "mystery motors" under the hood of Jr. Johnson's stock car. The public never had any until 66 & they were still pretty rare then.
@genexrollins I think Chevy reports 50 1963 RPO Z-11 Impalas were built, some say 57. Any dealer could order an RPO or their client if they new what to ask for and could afford it. Reportedly some Z11's ended up on dealers lots. Your statement makes sense but I don't think there was a reserve put on them. Anyway 427 is conveivable for the movie but somehow I got Hollywood Knights cobra mixed up w/ American Graffitti.
@genexrollins I was just reading the Z11 page and it states the 1962 COPO 409 impalas were sold exclusively to race car drivers, so I think in 1963 it was possible to purchase a COPO impala w/ the Z11 427 option but It probably is the rarest of all the COPO cars. They were dominating stock car and Drag racing at this time weren't they? I know the wedge and hemi were coming up. Love this stuff!
@10mak01 the black 55 chevy was actually equipped in reality with an L88 based 427 which wasnt available in '62 -the year the movie is set in. That was nt sound effects when they rev ed that monster up at the light. just brutal HP! Milner's coupe is neat, its advantage is weight dist & traction. but it would have to have a very mean small block to beat that L88, assuming of course there would be any tires found up to the task of handling all that power in 62 ! M&H racemasters!
@10mak01 the 409's had their day until the Hemi's showed up. Jr Johnsons car ran away from others in Nascar until about 500 miles, then it usually blew up!
Milners Car reg THX 138. Was there ever a George Lucas film with that THX in the title? Also is there a THX sound system?I am just curious to know. Can anyone let me know.TKS.
I almost forgot about this movie, and how bad-ass Milner's coupe was. Seeing this slide show reminded me of one of the scene right after him and Falfa raced. Toad says, "What are you talking about John? You'll always be number one!"
I never noticed this before when watching the movie. The license plate on the car says THX 138. THX 1138 was the title of a space movie George Lucas did back before Star Wars.
american graffiti had a sequel called "more american graffiti" which came out in 1979 it was not directed by lucas but everyone execpt Richard D. from the oringal cast is in the movie.p.s THIS IS NOT SPAMMING THIS IS A HISTORICAL FACT SO NOW U KNOW THERE WAS AN AG2

I'm gonna work up to making my own replica of that car. Exact as possible. but instead of the 327 chevy engine. . . .drop in a 454 or a 426 hemi. still four pot intake though.
Thought I'd let you know I just got to meet Paul LeMat who played John Milner in the film. I met him just yesterday at World of Wheels in Atlanta,Georgia. He's a heckuva nice guy! I drew his portrait from the film and he signed it and my AG Soundtrack LP. I'll be posting video of him soon from the car show!
