@tpersing88 Didnt exactly walk the car. Civic has alot less weight and a little more boost. It was a pretty even race imo. I was hoping for the 3000 to win but ill give credit were its due.
@suprakilla2JZ I highly doubt is was just an ebay bolt on turbo kit if its running 14psi. If he just slapped that kit on there and turned the boost up that much on stock internals, connecting rods would have shot through the oil pan and been layin on the road. Also it would've ran like shit without an upgraded fuel system and tune

A friend & I co-owned a VR4 & had to repair it after the previous owner downshifted in it & bent valves. We replaced valves, valve springs, guides, seals, hoses, & paid for head work. Parts weren't rare but they weren't cheap by any means. No need to change anything on the bottom end.
It aint a vr-4 because vr-4's have twin turbo posted on the side of the windows, ihate when people dont know the difference between a 3000 gt and a vr-4 its not that hard, really.

I don't understand the disagreement going on here. a DSM Talon/Eclipse/Laser was a joint effort of mitsubishi and chrystler. They where MADE from floor up in america. 3000GT's and Stealths (ie 3s) where made in japan. The stealth was shipped as an incomplete car (missing body parts ONLY) to america and in Normal IL, they where completed. COMPLETED meaning finished, mean the car was not made in america like the DSM's are. Just because a car is made by mitsubishi does not make it a DSM.

All you gotta worry about is what your gonna buy to up your fuel system. I've owned a 97 gs-t. Not NEARLY as reliable. I could take the 14b turbo off an eclipse, put it on my civic at 12psi stock internals and walk on more cars than u think and i got most cars beat in mpg's still.

Civics weigh right around 3k lbs fully loaded. Its easy to get your power to weight ratio up, and much cheaper. Civics also handle pretty well with a little suspension work. Their not pointless to build. Its an easier start. If you understood the basics you'd get what im saying.
@garrett6699 hahaha alright ill give you that, she is kind of a whale, but a sexy one, stock a 1st gen vr4 comes with 300 hp, 9psi and 0-60 in 5.5, which is pretty good. and with a bigger downpipe and some minor tweaks to the turbos youve got atleast 370 hp and 14 psi. with that kind of power you can stomp porches, beemers and 350 z's. so really its not that hard. plus in my opinion, it just about the sexiest car you can get under 100k

Well you got 1265 more weight to get moving and you gotta weight for ya turbos to spool seeing how you only got 8:0:1 compression the motor alone wont do much. The b16 has 10:2:1 comp, and I got 5 LOOONG gears to pull though with better final drives, good luck with that 6 speed ha

You got a thousand pounds on a del sol in that boat and 60hp more. You've probably never driven a honda but even a sohc d16 would show more torque than your 3000gt. Its all in the gearing and hondas are known for having really torquey gears especially 1st and 2nd. You'll be in 4th and ill be in my honda rompin by in 2nd :) :).

@NJsFyNeSt No shit - I used to have a turbo Del Sol and replaced it with a VR-4 restoration project. Even with a massive boost leak and trashed high-side radiator fan, my new VR-4 makes my Del Sol feel like I was driving a horse and buggy instead of a car.
@edog110 Maybe a one car lead against a stock VR-4. I had a B16A3 Del Sol running 8 PSI on the stock compression level (had to use methanol injection to prevent detonation) as my last car and my 100% stock VR-4 that I replaced it with is still faster.
@edog110 It was far from stock - it was running the stock 10.1:1 compression ratio. I made note of that since most Honda tuners opt for lower compression pistons, while I went for keeping the high compression and mitigating the detonation with methanol injection.
when you take into account that this 3000gt is prob fully loaded with options that adds on alot more to the car... that civic might be keeping up but theres also nothing to it or any other civic for that matter there cheaply made cars i mean just look at a door when its open its barely over an inch thick as is the rest of the car itas more along the lines of a gokart with a body and engine... the 3000 is an actual car when you take into account the way its made and built and the materials in use
Not much of a fair race. 3000GT VR4's weigh well over 3700lbs and Civics are way below that. The Civic has better power to weight ratio by far. The VR4 has more power though and would beat it in a longer race. Throw some 20G Frankenstein turbos in that VR4 and boost them to 25 - 30psi and race again.
should race from a stop like a really drag race and see who wins....i bet the 3000 would smash no traction problems with the 3000......

I love civics too, but c'mon, hi po civics are kindof a joke.. They were never meant to be high performance cars. They are economical cars that just happen to be fun to drive. Putting big power in them just gives you masses of wheel spin and torque steer. ruins them really... If you want big power, save the money and step up to rear or awd.

however if you think a swapped and boosted civic will only pull high 12's YOU are a lier or retarded.The newest gen civic with decent bolt-ons and a good tune will pull mid 12's and it is the heaviest civic yet.There are videos of this being done so there is no need trying to refute it.

the guy in the civic can't shift for shit and and vr4 is smoking bad like it's valve seals are leaking. The civic is def faster though. Probably a low 14 second car on street tires... Best cars for the money are LT1 or LS1 camaros and firebird, cheap and easy power potential with just a bigger cam. Not expensive at all to make fast. And they come with 6 speeds... Then when you want to talk about boost, your talking big power 600whp +

I have a 1998 Civic Ek Turbo built d16z6 making 404whp at 16psi, and it will smoke vr4s, i have owned 2 vr4s, and one rt/tt stealth. good for off the line. stock vr4 is decent, now different ball game if the vr4 is built. makes 1000whp easy.

@scottbux22 Lmao I could put a turbo on my civic with CL parts for under a grand. D series are solid daily driver cars up to 250hp turbod. Thats seriously not touching the internals at all. All you gotta worry about is what your gonna buy to up your fuel system. I've owned a 97 gs-t. Not NEARLY as reliable. I could take the 14b turbo off an eclipse, put it on my civic at 12psi stock internals and walk on more cars than u think and i got most cars beat in mpg's still.

@scottbux22 I still disagree. You can take your heavy "butch" of a car and try and make it go fast. Good luck spending att that money to get your power to weight ratio up. Civics weigh right around 3k lbs fully loaded. Its easy to get your power to weight ratio up, and much cheaper. Civics also handle pretty well with a little suspension work. Their not pointless to build. Its an easier start. If you understood the basics you'd get what im saying.

@garrett6699 hahaha alright ill give you that, she is kind of a whale, but a sexy one, stock a 1st gen vr4 comes with 300 hp, 9psi and 0-60 in 5.5, which is pretty good. and with a bigger downpipe and some minor tweaks to the turbos youve got atleast 370 hp and 14 psi. with that kind of power you can stomp porches, beemers and 350 z's. so really its not that hard. plus in my opinion, it just about the sexiest car you can get under 100k

Take a 90's del sol with the 1.6 b16a3, its got 160hp and weighs 2535lbs hp/lbs=.0631...So your still thinking your vr4 wil smoke it right? Well you got 1265 more weight to get moving and you gotta weight for ya turbos to spool seeing how you only got 8:0:1 compression the motor alone wont do much. The b16 has 10:2:1 comp, and I got 5 LOOONG gears to pull though with better final drives, good luck with that 6 speed ha

@696969Brian696969 Dude the b16a3 has 160hp. 5 Loooong gears and vtec at 5400 rpm. And thats a 1.6L engine, tiny! Your na 3000gt has a 24 valve v6 with 220hp. You got a thousand pounds on a del sol in that boat and 60hp more. You've probably never driven a honda but even a sohc d16 would show more torque than your 3000gt. Its all in the gearing and hondas are known for having really torquey gears especially 1st and 2nd. You'll be in 4th and ill be in my honda rompin by in 2nd :) :).

I said that because although when im doing normal everyday driving you notice how small 1st and 2nd are, but of I romp through 1st and 2nd I can run them all the way up to 65mph. @edog110 Maybe a one car lead against a stock VR-4. I had a B16A3 Del Sol running 8 PSI on the stock compression level (had to use methanol injection to prevent detonation) as my last car and my 100% stock VR-4 that I replaced it with is still faster.

@edog110 It was far from stock - it was running the stock 10.1:1 compression ratio. I made note of that since most Honda tuners opt for lower compression pistons, while I went for keeping the high compression and mitigating the detonation with methanol injection.

when you take into account that this 3000gt is prob fully loaded with options that adds on alot more to the car... that civic might be keeping up but theres also nothing to it or any other civic for that matter there cheaply made cars i mean just look at a door when its open its barely over an inch thick as is the rest of the car itas more along the lines of a gokart with a body and engine... the 3000 is an actual car when you take into account the way its made and built and the materials in use

Not much of a fair race. 3000GT VR4's weigh well over 3700lbs and Civics are way below that. The Civic has better power to weight ratio by far. The VR4 has more power though and would beat it in a longer race. Throw some 20G Frankenstein turbos in that VR4 and boost them to 25 - 30psi and race again.
