Hey can you please tell me how to remove stickers that have been very old and scratched; they are very hard to get off but I don't want to scratch bike paintt ;) thanks
@thebiggieballs depending if u use single stage paint (has the finishing coat in it already) or normal flat paint. if its a normal flat paint buy SATIN CLEAR COAT. its basically a clear coat that wont make the paint shinny.
Loved the video, I do not agree with everyone else. You talk just fine. I mean you did fit a tutorial on how to paint my bike into like 5 mins. I do have a question though. Is there a significant difference between the spray gun and using a rattlecan?
DUDE! Just like you said on this video... Take time! Take time to talk slow! That way we'll get your instructions clear in one single play instead of trying to watch it over again and again.
i like that he talked fast and delivered the information. only thing tho is why is there a dura ace headset used in that bridgestone department store bike.
Alright So I've followed all your directions. My frame is ready to spray the primer and paint. But to sand the first primer coat you say too use 1000 grit. But the highest I got right now is 800. Would that work?
Dude! Your videos have helped me out so much! I will be posting a link to my blog later so you can check the finished result. Thank you so much for all the advice!
@blaketnewman I am not a pro but my guess would be yes.I have a bike that doesn't have a clear coat and as a result its easy to scratch and chip if a small stone hits the frame while riding. My guess would be that the clear coat adds extra protection to the frame so the bike doesn't scratch so easily.I think the finish looks better without the clear coat so when i get around to painting my bike a new color im just going to paint it matt.
@sqeekyfoot paint your first color then mask off the parts of the bike you want to paint that color then spray your second color, unmask the whole bike then clear it
Youtube doesn't charge extra for the extra 30 seconds to run through this video. Please slow down on the talking. Makes you sound like you're on drugs.
hey im ready to paint now but i have not goten my primer or paint. i want to paint it a flat black for the the frame and bars and forks any special brands i should buy for better results? and for the primer? please respond.
Hey mike how long are you suppose to let it dry? You say at least over night but ive read that others say to let dry for a week and others say for a month!? I didn't do anything fancy just some flat black.
if you are ever interested in getting a custom metal headbadge i can help ya out. been making and painting them for a lil while now and thought you may be interested.
Some say I should sand down the paint (remove gloss) before applying clear lacquer to make it stick better. Also the clear lacquer will make the paint shine again. In your video you're skipping that part. Which way is best? Thanks!
@crkdesign you dont need to sand the paint down unless you have a run in the paint, if you do all your steps right itll stick just fine, and i know they make some clears that leave the paint with a non glossy finish cause if you dont apply clear coat the paint will chip easy and the sun will turn it white
Is it safe to put the bike somewhere like in my dorm room while the aircraft stripper, primer, or paint is drying? Or are the fumes basically going to kill me and my roomie? Also im not sure whats up with my frame but it looks like the paint is messed up everywhere, the frame was once a single color but I actually bought it from craigslist and the frame's color is like a mix between dif shades of silver in an army camo style, do you mind if I link a pic if you have time to help me identify it?
@keychain1337 No its not u need really good ventilation for those chemicals, and its just got multiple coats on it soo itll take more work to get it all off. and pics fine
This was perfect. unfortunately I'm already 75% the way through this process when I found it, so I'll apply this knowledge to the next project. One thing that I did that you didn't cover, was that I used autobody filler on parts of the bike to smooth it out (my frame is a 1970's Raleigh, not a nice Bridgestone) Seriously though. great couple videos.
Thanks for the help, I've starting considering this,I've got an old 1980s bike I wanted to leave the lug without paint has anybody got advise on how i would cover them in painting.
@MrFrankenstein92 I get most of my stuff off craigslist, Bikeisland has omnium cranks for the cheapest and they dont charge tax or shipping which is awesome, and cyclingclosets is pretty good to and ebay of coarse
