I am sure that the Musical Director of these two lovely young ladies explained the meaning of the song, although I am sure even if they tried singing it with more expression this particular arrangement just sounds so happy that I would not fault the Singers. Besides what do two sweet young Vocalists know about love and death? I think that at their age they should just enjoy singing and making pretty sounds as the understanding of this music will come all too soon.
Hi Kayla and Kara, you have beautiful voices, go on with exercising :) Short comments referring to this little music: Bach wrote it for his beloved wife Anna-Magdalena. Its quite an intimate peace and means: "If you are with me, i face even death with joy, when your lovely Hands will close my eyes." Its a last witness and a living proof of love and faithfulness. I don't find this emotion in your singing and the playing of the pianist. A pity in view to your voices ;) Greeting from Germany.
@pagelbel Bach did not write this for Anna Magdalena, but it was copied into her Notebook. We know now that the piece was written by Gottfried Heinrich Stolzel. Listen to Elly Ameling, Janet Baker, Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, et al. THAT's how it's done... not like THIS.
I have a book right in front of me that says the words are "You are with me, my joy forever. Until my death and unto my rest, until my death and unto my rest. You are with me, my joy forever. Until my death and unto my rest, untill deal and unto rest. Oh how content all of my earthly days, And at the end will your prefect loving hand reach to gently close my eyes. (continued)
(continued) - "... Oh how content all of my days. And at the end will your perfect loving hand reach to gently close my eyes. You are with me, my joy forever. Until my death and unto my rest, until death and unto rest. ----- Sounds like you are supposed to be happy? ----TO ZINGALA (OR anyone else out there). Are they supposed to have a sad emotion when singing this song.
The voices are great... the arrangement is the worst i`ve ever heard... if Mr. Robinson had read a translation of the lyrics it might not have been so awful happy an so fu***** fast... Bach would have had a heard attack...
Good voices and nice duet part. Please try to study the meaning of the lyric first before singing, the cheerful tone and the tempo didn't fit the meaning. I do not think you understand what you are singing, that's a pity.
Pretty, but there are some dotted rhythms that are missing here, and there needs to be a little bit more of a legato movement between your notes. apart from that, its great :)
absolutely lovely! It may be the camera angle, make sure your shoulders are well back, it's Ok to look proud, just don't be. It will help let you take command of your music and the audience. You must continue with your music, well done! e-star
In der Tat, erheblich zu schnell. Erinnert mich im Tempo etwas an die zu schnell dirigierten Karajan-Interpretationen einiger Beethoven-Werke, die dadurch ähnlich an Wirkung einbüßen...
Nice voices, but WAY too fast!!!!

The singing is allright, but somewhat too quick. The pronunciation of the German is poor. But you do have talent!

@xingala The song doesn't really have much of a saddened tone; it's just saying "you'll be with me until my death."
LmfaoGod 9 months ago
@xingala Indeed. It's far too fast. Should be slow and legato, very heartfelt. Listen to Elly Ameling's recording on YouTube.

It is played faster than usual, and sung extremely well by two beautiful voices - it makes for an entirely different song, very good.

Well, I like this!
The tempo reflects "Freude" no doubt, and an eagerness to get to Heaven.
I wonder why the arranger ironed out the dotted rhythms...?
The voices are in tune and blend very well together. Well done.
