so i just did it as a templar, level 46, and all i got was the cog peice, no abyss points tokens or money

The chest is level 35 so you might not be able to do it when you get out of the higher level loot range.

You can open an extra small box in your way to the center, just sleeping one of the mobs of the right. Ive also seen templars soloing this instance..

Yep grabbing the smaller chests is possible, but if you aggro you will probably get a 2nd death and the odds you pull something worthwhile out of the smaller chests is low.

can't you just melee the big chest? that maybe faster over all. though I am guessing there are mobs close by that may aggro?

I dont know how you got stunning shot to damage it so many times. i only got it to damage it twice. it might be fixed.

what level did you try to do it at? I'm getting a lot of in game tells from level 31's trying to do it and failing. You maybe need to be higher level, but it still works. I did it today.

I haven't tried it yet, but i would suggest to skill-weave, even as a sin, plus use all your abilites, an extra couple of shots per minute can be really helpful.

Just spam stunning shot, it's the only thing that will hit it. Gear doesn't really matter, you'll kill it anyway.

I ask because I tried doing it with a lvl 30 sin, but since he didn't have high enough damage output my dp skills only did 1 damage. I therefore wondered if the same applied to rangers.

As far as I know only rangers can do it. Stunning shot sometimes gets through for full damage on the box.
